Justin you personally revived classic rock at a time when it really needed it in the UK. You brought back the fun of Roth, the swagger of Jagger and the frivolity of Mercury. Sure, some people hated it but I myself needed it at a time when radio 1 was slowly causing me to decide which bridge to jump from. You seriously helped me get out of a very dark place (no pun intended).

I never took The Darkness as a "joke band", more like a rock band that doesn't take themselves too seriously. I think that if The Darkness was around when Meatloaf was originally popular they would've been huge, I mean think about it, they had a charting song during a time that was completely dominated by Pop and hip-hop. That's quite a fucking accomplishment in my humble opinion.

@@michaeldean7220 Glad you agree it's a masterpiece and you're probably right about the "difficult second album" thing, although I guess it's a cliche for a reason, as in it's extremely common. I really don’t get people calling the darkness a comedy band. They exploded onto the radio with a true old rock sound and awesome tracks. We need more stuff like this, when a track comes out that’s a bit heavier and plays on TFM people like it then regress back to generic pop within a few weeks. Perplexes me that people don’t seek out more music like this considering most pop music listeners enjoy it when the radio plays it, they seem to think and say ‘it’s so different!’. Yes, there’s millions of hours of music that’s like this, go find it for god sake!

I stayed in quite a few different digs and it was a dull existence - a world away from the life I left in my home town, where good friends and great parties were never far away. All that changed when I was very kindly offered to rent a room in a colleagues house: he liked to party and I'll never forget rocking out to your music and having an absolute blast. It was a breath of fresh air and I felt alive again, it was awesome. I'm a lot older now and once again I find myself a bit lost on the party front. I have and always will be impressed with The Darkness. I love that the band seams to enthuse playful energy but that doesn’t make them a joke band! Their songwriting ability and live dexterity coupled with genuine talent makes them a musical juggernaut. They are hugely under appreciated. I love them and always will! Plus anyone who can wear tight spandex while hitting a high C and playing guitar live on stage gets a thumbs up from me

This is really good. I am trolling your RUclips..and I am blown away by your head smarts, the way you express yourself and the intelligent reply's. Even to shit comments...It is so entertaining. I am not sure why this out of all things this is so interesting to me atm. Maybe because it is a breath of fresh air....I love your voice, it moves my heart. So thank you for making tunes.

I AM a spiritual medium who recently, because of this channel, rediscovered the music of The Darkness. I have to say that one of the things that has really surprised me is how soulful and impressive Justin Hawkins singing is. I am a singer myself, and a musicologist, AND I've been working for about 15 years as a vocal coach. This Red Eye Stones fellow is full of shiiiiiiit. It isn't just Hawkins tonal range that is impressive, but the fluidity with which he navigates that range, and the insane dynamic range his singing. I guess we are all entitled to our opinion, but I thing one should strive towards not being obviously, and objectively, wrong.
Keep up the great work, Justin. Love the channel, the music and the impressive restraint on display in these comment-reading-videos. Inspiring stuff!

The comment reaction videos are quickly rising to the top as my favorites. Your takedown of that dooshy irony guy was galactic (I was gonna say "epic" but I suddenly thought of that video of yours on the spaceship so "galactic" felt more appropriate). Thanks, Sir!

If you love and play the guitar you’ll understand just how good and technical these guys are. I love how they don’t take themselves to seriously but then find me another band at present that’s playing the beastly riffs and solos like these boys!!!

Ok, I just wanted to say a couple of things that I've recently realized since discovering your channel a few days ago. The first being the realization that I've been listening to The Darkness for 20 years (yowzers!) and the second being that I only just realized what Holding My Own is actually about. You talk about enjoying writing clever lyrics, and that is something I've always enjoyed in your writing. And while this might have been obvious to many, the cincerity in the song's delivery never pointed me in that direction. But the realization the other night had me in tears. Thank you.

Saw The Darkness years ago at the Wembley Arena supporting Lynyrd Skynyrd and Deep Purple, you put on a good if short show. i never really followed the band closely after that but i liked what you did though never bought any albums. These videos you are now doing have inspired me to go back and check out some of your back catalogue and i'm thoroughly enjoying the deep dive. Haters will hate so just keep doing what you love and forget them.
