Let me tell you there no such thing as a boring video from your workshop. Every day is a school day for us as we are educated on common problems and how they are fixed. Its always a good feeling to know a car leaves the garage ‘sorted’ and the owner can relax and enjoy the car.
It’s mental that Audi have not fixed this, my 2015 A6 Allroad had exactly the same issue after 40k. New cams, chain and tensioners £4800 at the dealer, luckily under warranty.
For me the worst thing about VAG cars since the 2010's is when they are fitting them with electronic oil sensors only. These are good because if it has a quick leak it can alert the car but from my experience they only want to show the level at certain engine and/or oil temperature. I want a manual dipstick in the car along with a oil sensor. I appreciate most the cars have turbo and need to hold vacuum, then fit a dipstick that can seal. Great video and love your explanations about things and what your thought process is. There aint many mechanics working til midnight to keep their lead time in check i can tell ya that! Thumbs up.
Nazdar i na ENG kanale.! I have to agree. There is a garage and there is THE GARAGE. Since I speak the language of their tribe, I know how invloved these guys are. It's not short of magic in certain instances and I wish we had such a genuine guys working over at my place. Well executed. Diagnosed. Done.
Because it’s German engineering, they reduced the oil pressure or something to help with emission, which the parts don’t get enough oil and they wear out
Your phone picks up the lower tone of the issue quite well. Easily distinguished from the injector clicking. Tyre wear on both outer edges but not the middle is normally an indication of a tyre run underinflated for a long time. It must really help you when telling the customer the faults when you have this video to show him.
28:38 There is a lot of dirty sludge visible on the cam covers in this engine. The huge wear on the gears and chains is 100% due to poor past maintenance, most likely with the cheapest oil the original owner(s) could buy, not helped by the factory low oil pressure programme.
No, that’s just your dealership. Our dealership constantly does bushing services - they’re not unusual. Also, it may depend on the age/mileage of your arms as well. If your bushings are cracked/separated but you ballpoint boots are splitting: I’m not recommending just bushings. Also, if a car comes in with over 100,000 miles on control arms with bad bushings, probably not recommending just bushings due to the mileage on the arms. Preventative maintenance.
You are very smart to focus on Audi automobiles. You will always have plenty of work. The only problem is the owners trying to nickel and dime your repair quotes. Such is life.
Thanks for sharing this, mate! Very appreciated..not to many real mechanics for european cars around here, down under. I've got my eyes on a A6 Allroad C8, 3.0TDI, CVM. This is the only engine available in Australia on the A6 Allroad, 183Kw, 600Nm. Does anyone know if Audi fixed any of these problems with the chains at any point in time or they are still coming like that as new?
Great video again and after recent CRT discovery, I've cleaned up the carbon mess in the inlet of my DDV engine. It now has 165t kms obviously runs fine and hoping the cams will last. Luckily I did a tuning on my engine where the oil pressure was already remapped at 77t kms!! Let's see how long the engine will last. Thanks again!
These engines have an amazing amount of excess wear for the miles they have been driven. They don’t seem to build these V6 engines to last. I had an early Q7 V6 diesel from new in 2004 and remapped it early in its life, which made a huge difference to the performance of the engine and six speed automatic. I ran it for six years and over 70,000 miles with no engine or transmission issues. It did eat tyres every 10,000 to 12,000 miles. I’m now very glad I did not keep it for my occasional 200,000 miles like my Toyota Land Cruiser 4.2 diesel.
What are the chances that owners rev the shit out of them often (even when not properly warmed up?) a lot of these are abused constantly so no surprise.
These cars are bought to run as taxi with mileage blockers so that's why you have so many issues at 80k miles. The car at this reading really has 150k or even 200 thousand miles.

Tomas, just an idea to get you a microphone so we will hear loud and clear everything when you turning back to point something on the car. Cheers from Sweden.
Just change your oil and filter every 6 months and you will be good to go. There are 100 of thousands of these 3.0 tdi engines still going strong pushing over 200k miles with no problems. Good maintenance is all thats needed and maybe a new timing chain tensioner 😂
I have an A8 D3 3.0 tdi from 2005, and I wouldn’t swap it for the newer version! This car will be running for another 25 years, guaranteed! Maybe in about 5-6 years is going to come to you for a timing chain job 😅😅😅
I have the 4.2 D3 mate, such good cars, im an independent like these guys and have no issue owning a D3. The new stuff, the problem is poor servicing essentially. They end up at franchised joints using cheapest oils with low experienced techs, not always their fault by the way. Its cheap insurance to do very regular oil and filter changes at half to 3/4 of the prescribed factory suggested period. Cheap insurance. These guys mention oil, oil , oil and i totally sing from the same hymn sheet
You are right about oil changes, I change the oil every 3-4000 miles, I have 91k on the clock and is running like was running when was new! This car puts a smile on my face every time I look at it 😅😅😅

The biggest issue with the bonnet latch is that if your battery is flat and the car deadlocked you can't open the bonnet to jump start the car. Had this issue trying to help a friend jumpstart their Skoda Karoq.
I’ve had a bunch of different older Audis and still have my trusty A6 C4. I don’t think I’ll ever buy anything newer than the C7. Quality is not the same anymore. But this goes for any car brand these days unfortunately.
Have you had much to do with DEWB engines in the S4/6 TDI? Mine had a failed oil pump/vac pump at 9k miles. Audi had told me the noisy engine was normal, but parked it next to another S4 and the rattle was awful. Safe to say, Audi bought it back and sent it through BCA…
Fantastic video as usual. I have the S4 TDI with 20.000 miles could you give us a price on doing the remap for the oil pressure and how long would it take as I'd have to wait for the car... I'm 130 miles away.... Thanks 👌

My question is how to get this lube oil pressure remap done? I am from Croatia. Thanks.

Question? Does the earlier 2013 3.0 TDI with CNRB engine code can be re-mapped and oil pressure increased? It’s out of Q7 and I do my oil changes at 7,000-8,000km just because of that feeble and fragile 2-chain cam drive mechanism.
Have A question: I know that was for diagnose only, but is it good idea to take injectors and rocket covers out and back in using old bolts and seals/gaskets? I'm asking because I could take a look in my engine how the chain and cams are going 🤔. Appreciate if you answer. Thanks
