    I remember seeing you post that picture of equipment you were stockpiling some weeks ago. Was very curious what that was all about, I figured you were building something large. But had NO idea you were outfitting a real/live OB vehicle/trailer. That is way cool.

    This is awesome! :-) just stumbled across your channel, can’t wait to see more content like this! I’m currently in the process of transitioning my freelance media production skills and experience into live production. I’ve shot a few live events in mid-2021and am officially deciding live will be my area of choice (vs other media mediums like videography and photography). Any suggestions on things to learn/know when entering independent live production of small events? How did you get started (with training programs of some sort or just slowly on your own…?)?
    Thank and Ryan! Can’t wait to see more!

      Thanks for stopping by! Hopefully you find the material helpful! My personal story in broadcast started 15 odd years ago doing things through church as well as professional gigs, learning on the job, its so much easier these days with so much content on youtube where you can get nuggets of information through different channels, also discord channels like John's Here to Record channel where theres plenty of people happy to answer questions. i dont know of any training programs etc but definitely youtube like crazy and pickup things along the way from youtubers who are doing things similar to what you want to do. If you would like some actual consulting id be happy to do so if something specific comes up :) glad to have you here!

    This is incredible and can’t wait to see how this project develops ! Also really like the retro look of the trailer question I think I need to ask is since the Australian sun is ridiculous are you waiting for the trailer to arrive to do any kind of insulation/ air con work?

    • @RyanSomerfield
      @RyanSomerfield  2 года назад +2

      there are already 3 aircons in the trailer but probably gonna add a 4th dedicated to the rack mount gear, but once its here we will be able to see all those things

    What connectors did you end up with for the MTP Fibre? Looking at going with FS as well, but hitting a bit of a road block with what gender to get on each end of the cables, as well as the breakout cables, as fs doesn't even seem to have them in single mode. Thanks!

    Hi Ryan, nice job, can you share the references or where you buy the power supply for the mini converters? I'm actually dealing with a lot of little power adaptors needing a lot of power sockets it's awfull to manage... So if you can share it will be so kind of you.
    Thx

    • @RyanSomerfield
      @RyanSomerfield  2 года назад

      Hey Oslow, So I get a custom power supply depending on the need, typically i get MeanWell powersupplies which are decent quality and robust. So typically what i will do is choose my voltage, (5, 12,20,24 etc) depending on the requirements, Add up the wattage of all the converters i want to add, add an extra 20-50% of headroom to be safe then buy 2 of them. Meanwell have a lot of different options so basically any combo you need you will be able to find or very close to, espescially in the 5 and 12v road. So theres no "go to" that i use, i just do the math and pick the one everytime to make sure i dont get the wrong one :)

    • @DouglasHeriot
      @DouglasHeriot 2 года назад

      @@RyanSomerfield What do you use to connect the dual power supplies in a redundant way with equipment that only has a single DC input? Put it together with some diodes, or is there a proper product to achieve this?

    How do you plan use NDI along with SDI/BMD stuff? I built my whole workflow on top of NDI & DANTE because it looked like that it's kinda easier to have one workflow instead of several. On the other hand, I would like to use hardware switcher because it seems to be much more stable than software-based switcher. Even mine (vMix) is stable for 2 years, there is always Windows in the background which is a nightmare with theirs updates. :D On the other hand, it's nice to have everything on 1 cable and 10 Gbps network (cameras (ndi, possibly later dante video), audio sources (dante), intercom (dante), dmx, internet access, ...) with switches which supports PoE-passthrough. :)

    • @RyanSomerfield
      @RyanSomerfield  2 года назад +1

      Main thought is purely for flexibility, The ability to grab ndi sources to the switcher and vice versa. A big part was grabbing NDI from zoom/teams which we do a bunch. I personally am always a fan of dedicated hardware. sure you can be more flexible on software/network etc but stability is king for me. so yeah SDI is still the main workflow, but some things just run with ndi and this is an easy way to convert to and from

  • @driten123
    @driten123 2 года назад

    Don't you need individual sdi returns to be able to paint the cameras, or is that possible with the return coming from the DA?

    • @RyanSomerfield
      @RyanSomerfield  2 года назад +1

      Da is totally fine, each output outputs all the data for each camera, then on the camera you select which number to “listen to”

    • @RyanSomerfield
      @RyanSomerfield  2 года назад +1

      @@driten123 it’s a pretty clever system, means you don’t have to waste channels for return just for ccu and then can be used for other things :)
