Gosh, poor adorable Ruby ❤ thank goodness she has such an amazing Mum to take care of her. ♥️ It’s such a joy to see your adorable fur babies. I would love to have a fur baby room full of fur babies. Hope you feel better soon & Ruby is back to her self in no time. Thank you for sharing 👍👍. Stay safe healthy and happy ✝️🇺🇸♥️

Hope Ruby recovers well from her surgery. You are such a good pet parent to the ferrets!

I’m glad that Ruby is OK. Hope everything’s good with weasel as well. And I agree. I take my animals health really seriously. It’s important to make sure even if you have only one doubt.

Sorry to hear about Ruby. Our ferret had abdomen surgery and our vet used an ace bandage and wrap his abdomen. Worked well.

Thanks for sharing! We have an older male ferret with adrenal disease and our vet advised us to do the hormone implant. I assume cause our boy is a senior ferret. However, our vet also stated he doesn’t preform the surgery (forgot name) as much do due to the potential complications and the chance of the tumor growing back. I was also told that by another local exotic vet. Have you or know anyone else that had other ferrets diagnosed with Adrenal disease and had success with the surgery? It just seems that a lot more vets (well US exotic vets) are advising the hormone implant vs the surgery. 🤷🏼‍♀️

When I shared on IG that Ruby had the surgery a lot of people said their ferrets had it too, but prior to my own experience, I didn’t even know survey was an option. From what my vet said,it works best if the adrenaline disease is caught early and doing the surgery on the left adrenal is far easier and safer than the right. The right adrenal gland is very very close to a main blood vessel and is very risky from what I was told.
And I just brought Ruby in for her annual check up and she still looks amazing and does not have any signs of adrenal disease as of about two weeks ago. overall the surgery worked really well and hopefully she’ll stay adrenal free.. unless she gets it on the right side, which is still a possibility according to my vet.
My vet is also kind of old school in some ways, and in some ways he’s all about the newer treatments. He’s been working with small animals for almost 30 years. I really like him, he always explains everything so well and he sits with us the entire 30 minutes we wait after they have their vaccines. He reminds me of their first vet in MD.
When I first moved to PA I took them to a different place and that vet had little experience with ferrets and it made me so nervous I never took them back, they have Weasel a rabies vaccine for dogs 🤦‍♀️ and almost killed him. I found our current vet through an online ferret group in PA but it definitely took me some time to find someone I trusted

My 5 year old boy went downhill the last couple days. Just took him to vet he has insulinoma and the vet thinks he also has adrenal disease. They are keeping him a couple days to get his meds right before I bring him home. She called to update me about confirming the insulinoma with the blood work and I ask her when she will know about the adrenal disease and she said they dont normally test for it due to it being expensive. So she wants to put an implant in a few weeks. She says due to just having some hair loss on his tail she knows he has it. Just not sure how it could effect him if he doesn't have it. Need to do some research.
