    The Native North Americans in Alaska, British Columbia, Washington State, Oregon, and California would use cedar to prepare their salmon. This preparation goes back a long time. Cedar planked salmon is great. Hardware stores also sell untreated wood, of various types, and they also can cut it for you, and it works great for this particular purpose. Soaking the wooden plank prevents it from quickly burning. You also have a serving platter when it's done. Its the same thing for using wooden skewers, that they need to be soaked in water. That salmon looks great. Cheers, Greg! 👍🏻👍🏻✌️

    Hi Greg, it's Mike Florence and WOW what a surprise recipe from you!!! I think you know I'm a seafood chef, backing up my repertoire by watching all your Burger and BBQ recipes. Your cooking method here KNOCKED ME OUT!!! My only suggestion is the dry rub seasoning. I use a mix of Tarragon, Dill, grated Lemon Zest and Black Pepper. I will definitely be cooking this exactly as so clearly explained on my Webber when we get good weather. Cheers Greg for another winner. See Ya, Mike.

      Thank you for the tips, and for watching Mike! A kettle grill works great for plank cooking. I usually lay the charcoal down, leaving a gap in the center. Start the cook directly over the coals, then move it to the center.

    Very nice video and I also really like cedar plank salmon. Last year, however, I made flamed salmon for the first time, as they do in Finland. The board with the salmon is placed vertically over a wood fire. We and our family and friends liked that even more. I can really recommend you give this a try 👍👍👍

    Looked fabulous. Interesting thing about cedar. It is fairly well known with people who build with Western Red Cedar is the dust is toxic. Yet people char it to cook food.

    This has been very high on my to-try list. You mention getting the grill up to temp and later plenty hit enough. But what temperature is that, what are ya running your grill at?

    • @BallisticBBQ
      @BallisticBBQ  9 месяцев назад +1

      I cranked it up to high 300s-low 400s. I just wanted to get the flame up there in the sear zone.

    That's the only way I cook my fish. I buy the cedar planks through Amazon, keep them available for when I need them. But I do the same, let it soak for a couple of hours before hand and then just let it steam.
    Good job there.

    • @BallisticBBQ

    Maybe I missed it but what temperature setting did you use on the grill? "Hot" is not a temperature and is subjective.

    • @BallisticBBQ
      @BallisticBBQ  4 месяца назад

      You want it to be grilling temperatures, so hot. I usually do this on charcoal grills, so you want it to be the same temperature you'd use if cooking a steak.

  • @stepheniwilson

    Greg, is it possible to do this cook on the Blackstone grill or do you need the open flame?

    • @BallisticBBQ
      @BallisticBBQ  9 месяцев назад

      I don't think it would work on a Blackstone. If you try it, you'd need a dome. Any other grill (gas or charcoal) works great, so long as it has a lid though.

  • @DirkHarrington

    Don’t bother soaking wood, doesn’t do anything. Wood doesn’t absorb water that is why they use it for boats 😉. Meathead has done experiments, check out his book. Otherwise a home run recipe & easy!
