The (Catholic) priest at my friend who committed suicide’s funeral literally went “so he is actually in hell now and if you don’t repent you’ll all go to hell with him, and I’ll be all partying in heaven with my boy J.C. but y’all can’t get in”. Immediately made me lose my faith because like how horrible do you have to be to say that about a 17 year old guy just because he took his own life and “didn’t keep his faith” it was despicable and I hope that priest never sees heaven
First of all, I am so sorry that you had to go through this. That's an awful thing to have to experience, without some vile priest making things even worse. I had a similar experience at my friend's funeral. This priest at least had the sense not to directly say that she was going to hell for commiting suicide, but he did spend the entire funeral preaching about how you need to repent and be with god to get into heaven, and given that she was openly atheist ended up being pretty much the same thing. Also, wow, hijacking a 14 year old kid's funeral to preach your religion is an awful thing to do??? And yeah, I don't think either of the involved priests will ever see the gates of heaven.

That exact thing happened at one of my friend’s funeral after he had killer himself. The pastor or whatever was talking about how he used to be a good Christian but now he’s in Hell and all this shit. It left his mother weeping and shaking, I felt so awful. It’s like, how the Hell can you say shit like this at this time? It’s a terrible belief to hold but even if someone does believe this sort of thing, why bring it up then? Like it was a wildly inappropriate time to voice his dumbass opinion. Put an awful taste in our mouths.
I had a friend who was shot and killed when we were 16. He was a good guy but didn’t believe in God and when the pastor basically said he wasn’t going to heaven is when I stopped going to church. I also got cornered by a grown man trying to kiss me when I was 14 and they did nothing about it. My parents even stopped asking me to go after that one lol

That part where he's hysterically laughing because someone in his fortnite squad had the name "Connor is TRASH" kinda made me sad. I don't feel bad for him exactly but it's a weird feeling. Watching this again, and his response to someone taking their own life literally still makes my blood boil. As a Christian, hearing other Christians say things like that makes me sick. Regardless of whether one agrees with that or not you should NEVER say that. It's so insensitive, and I can't believe that God EVER tells someone to say/post that. EVER. MY dad is one of the most Godly people I know, and when he hears about a person, especially a young person, passing away (suicide or not), all he has is anguish. He is just heartbroken and grieves for the family. He has the compassion that God tells us to have for others that are suffering. I'm so thankful that my dad isn't like this man.
I went to a Catholic school growing up and I remember asking if God's forgiveness extended to Judas, especially since he was so distraught at realizing what he'd done that he committed suicide, and my first grade teacher looked child me in the eyes and I think I watched her have a crisis of faith in real time

He says he isn’t, but he is shoving Christianity down their throats, and whenever they just ask him to stop or tell him that they’re part of another religion, he tries to scare them. His response to the taking of someone’s life is genuinely scary. You're giving him way too much credit. He absolutely understood what he was doing. Trust me, I've known plenty of turn-or-burn preachers and they know exactly what they're doing. the church loves scaring us into faith. as a “christian” (i don’t claim christianity anymore for reasons like this) that’s never sat right with me. the bible never says that you will go to hell if you commit suicide. when jesus is dying on the cross there was another man dying next to him. he had murdered and done all sorts of wrongs. jesus said he would be in heaven. that to me is proof that no matter the sin, if you believe in jesus. you will go to heaven.

TW: Suicide There's a foreign exchange student from South Korea at my school who is a strong Christian (which isn't uncommon for my area). I'm a senior, and I've been going to the same school my entire life, and a boy in my class, who also had been going here his entire life, committed suicide last month. Her host family had to have a long talk with her about why it's not ok to go around telling people who are saying he's in a better place that since he committed suicide he's in hell. I'm friends with one of the people in the host family, and that's when she really started to dislike her, because for the next few weeks, she was apparently super rude, and made snide comments anytime he was brought up. It's really heartbreaking to know that there are people who actually believe that.

The "I'm not a liar" thing is obviously wrong (every human lies, it's impossible not too), you shouldn't tell people that they will go to hell if they don't do what you say, and there's no major problem with liking the same gender. While there are parts of the Bible that condemn homosexuality it was probably created like that from people who wanted control like the Pope and later the Protestants (Orthodox also applies) because if you didn't know Eve was originally a whole side from Adam showing that they were equals but the translators turned it into a rib to fit what they wanted from women control and power so making them come from an insignificant part of the body would do this

As a bisexual Christian, (also about to go to school for preaching), I think Dr. Witnesser does something that turns a lot of people away from God. He takes his belief and turns it into a crusade, but he does nothing to work on himself. This is a problem a lot of people have when it comes to Evangelical Christianity, a Christian will talk all day about the sins of the world, but never say a word about their own sins. But, that's the thing, we as Christians shouldn't be holding people to a standard they don't believe in. That isn't fair. That isn't right. We as Christians should hold ourselves accountable for our sins, not for the sins of others.

My grandma is sometimes very similar to that guy TW: depression and suicide talk About 4 years ago I feel into a very deep depression and told no one for an entire year, but when I finally decided I didn’t want to keep living with that feeling I talked to my parents about what I had been feeling, and that I had thought of killing myself several times. My parents did get me immediately to talk to a psychiatrist and got on meds for severe depression, and also got me into therapy so I could talk my problems over with a professional. They were very loving and supportive. They told my Christian grandma about what had been happening with me and she sat me down and told me how I shouldn't kill myself because then I would go to and burn in hell for eternity. She also recently sat down to talk to me for 3 whole hours about how I should burn my Harry Potter books because it was a sin and that it would be better to go to heaven without books than carrying them to hell with me.

If God created the universe and everything in it including Adam, and if God is also omnipotent and omniscient then he is also the orchestrator of every event that has or will ever take place because he has created everything while knowing exactly how everything will play out based on the way he's created and set everything up. Therefore he did create sin. Let me explain it this way, if you create a duck and you create a pond and place them where the duck can get to that water, all while knowing that duck will in fact get in the water if you continue doing what you're doing then you've effectively made a pond with a duck in it. If you can know exactly what happens before you do it and you continue doing it you're making a conscious decision to make those events occur. If however, God knows everything except what humans do because of "free will" then he isn't omniscient and therefore couldn't have a grand plan for anything. So either free will doesn't exist or God isn't omniscient and has no plan. The entire concept of all of this is inherently contradictory as shown with some simple thought experiments.

So, by the logic given, God created the earth and humanity fully knowing that we shall fall into sin and will require a manner of salvation. Yet this is why the basis of Christianity is faith. Faith in God and whatever grand plan He has and had. ( Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. ) Proverbs 3:5. I am fully aware that this aspect of Christianity i.e. so-called blind faith, is one that not many are willing to accept. Indeed I myself still struggle with it and many of the points you've raised have come to mind many times. Yet it is in the acceptance of God's still yet unknown plan and purpose through faith that we are saved. Jesus said: " Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven." Matthew 18:3. What Jesus says here is that if we accept the Gospel of Christ through faith and absolute trust in Him, we shall be saved. This isn't to say that critique and skepticism is evil and discouraged. Yet what must be understood is that faith is what governs Christianity, and it is one's trust in God that determines their walk with Him. For further referential matter on faith, I recommend Hebrews 11 and 12:1-3. Thanks for the response, it was very enlightening.

i know this isnt what you were wanting to say but as christians we do need to recognize at these people are christians, just not “good” christians. they dont use the word of god correctly for sure but they do still believe in the bare minimum that jesus says gets us to heaven. this is an issue with all groups that say “we dont claim them”, its like no we need to recognize that people within communities can be shitty but that doesnt invalidate the rest of the community. like someone can be trans and also racist, that doesnt mean they arent trans but in actuality just represent an issue within the community that should be addressed

I’m so glad kurtis is talking about this. I remember me & other high schoolers being followed on the way home by Christians who were trying to indoctrinate us even after saying no and every other refusal we could think of. It was super scary at the time and just bad that the first time I was followed and met people who couldn’t take no ended up being Christian.

The (Catholic) priest at my friend who committed suicide’s funeral literally went “so he is actually in hell now and if you don’t repent you’ll all go to hell with him, and I’ll be all partying in heaven with my boy J.C. but y’all can’t get in”. Immediately made me lose my faith because like how horrible do you have to be to say that about a 17 year old guy just because he took his own life and “didn’t keep his faith” it was despicable and I hope that priest never sees heaven

I had a similar experience at my friend's funeral. This priest at least had the sense not to directly say that she was going to hell for commiting suicide, but he did spend the entire funeral preaching about how you need to repent and be with god to get into heaven, and given that she was openly atheist ended up being pretty much the same thing. Also, wow, hijacking a 14 year old kid's funeral to preach your religion is an awful thing to do??? And yeah, I don't think either of the involved priests will ever see the gates of heaven.

That exact thing happened at one of my friend’s funeral after he had killer himself. The pastor or whatever was talking about how he used to be a good Christian but now he’s in Hell and all this shit. It left his mother weeping and shaking, I felt so awful. It’s like, how the Hell can you say shit like this at this time? It’s a terrible belief to hold but even if someone does believe this sort of thing, why bring it up then? I had a friend who was shot and killed when we were 16. He was a good guy but didn’t believe in God and when the pastor basically said he wasn’t going to heaven is when I stopped going to church. I also got cornered by a grown man trying to kiss me when I was 14 and they did nothing about it. My parents even stopped asking me to go after that one lol

Watching this again, and his response to someone taking their own life literally still makes my blood boil. As a Christian, hearing other Christians say things like that makes me sick. Regardless of whether one agrees with that or not you should NEVER say that. It's so insensitive, and I can't believe that God EVER tells someone to say/post that. EVER. MY dad is one of the most Godly people I know, and when he hears about a person, especially a young person, passing away (suicide or not), all he has is anguish. He is just heartbroken and grieves for the family. He has the compassion that God tells us to have for others that are suffering. I'm so thankful that my dad isn't like this man.

There's a foreign exchange student from South Korea at my school who is a strong Christian (which isn't uncommon for my area). I'm a senior, and I've been going to the same school my entire life, and a boy in my class, who also had been going here his entire life, committed suicide last month. Her host family had to have a long talk with her about why it's not ok to go around telling people who are saying he's in a better place that since he committed suicide he's in hell. I'm friends with one of the people in the host family, and that's when she really started to dislike her, because for the next few weeks, she was apparently super rude, and made snide comments anytime he was brought up. It's really heartbreaking to know that there are people who actually believe that.

While there are parts of the Bible that condemn homosexuality it was probably created like that from people who wanted control like the Pope and later the Protestants (Orthodox also applies) because if you didn't know Eve was originally a whole side from Adam showing that they were equals but the translators turned it into a rib to fit what they wanted from women control and power so making them come from an insignificant part of the body would do this

As a bisexual Christian, (also about to go to school for preaching), I think Dr. Witnesser does something that turns a lot of people away from God. He takes his belief and turns it into a crusade, but he does nothing to work on himself. This is a problem a lot of people have when it comes to Evangelical Christianity, a Christian will talk all day about the sins of the world, but never say a word about their own sins. But, that's the thing, we as Christians shouldn't be holding people to a standard they don't believe in. That isn't fair. That isn't right. We as Christians should hold ourselves accountable for our sins, not for the sins of others.

About 4 years ago I feel into a very deep depression and told no one for an entire year, but when I finally decided I didn’t want to keep living with that feeling I talked to my parents about what I had been feeling, and that I had thought of killing myself several times.
My parents did get me immediately to talk to a psychiatrist and got on meds for severe depression, and also got me into therapy so I could talk my problems over with a professional. They were very loving and supportive.
They told my Christian grandma about what had been happening with me and she sat me down and told me how I shouldn't kill myself because then I would go to and burn in hell for eternity.
She also recently sat down to talk to me for 3 whole hours about how I should burn my Harry Potter books because it was a sin and that it would be better to go to heaven without books than carrying them to hell with me.

If God created the universe and everything in it including Adam, and if God is also omnipotent and omniscient then he is also the orchestrator of every event that has or will ever take place because he has created everything while knowing exactly how everything will play out based on the way he's created and set everything up. Therefore he did create sin.
Let me explain it this way, if you create a duck and you create a pond and place them where the duck can get to that water, all while knowing that duck will in fact get in the water if you continue doing what you're doing then you've effectively made a pond with a duck in it. If you can know exactly what happens before you do it and you continue doing it you're making a conscious decision to make those events occur.
If however, God knows everything except what humans do because of "free will" then he isn't omniscient and therefore couldn't have a grand plan for anything. So either free will doesn't exist or God isn't omniscient and has no plan. The entire concept of all of this is inherently contradictory as shown with some simple thought experiments.

Indeed I myself still struggle with it and many of the points you've raised have come to mind many times. Yet it is in the acceptance of God's still yet unknown plan and purpose through faith that we are saved. Jesus said: " Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven." Matthew 18:3.
What Jesus says here is that if we accept the Gospel of Christ through faith and absolute trust in Him, we shall be saved. This isn't to say that critique and skepticism is evil and discouraged. Yet what must be understood is that faith is what governs Christianity, and it is one's trust in God that determines their walk with Him. For further referential matter on faith, I recommend Hebrews 11 and 12:1-3.

But after going through an inner crisis about what I truly want to believe in and feeling the fear that the church places on you to stay there I decided to not be apart of it, I am spiritual and believe in God, but not the same God that punishes you if you do one tiny thing wrong, I think there's a lot humans add to religion that just keeps you stuck there.

i know this isnt what you were wanting to say but as christians we do need to recognize at these people are christians, just not “good” christians. they dont use the word of god correctly for sure but they do still believe in the bare minimum that jesus says gets us to heaven. this is an issue with all groups that say “we dont claim them”, its like no we need to recognize that people within communities can be shitty but that doesnt invalidate the rest of the community. like someone can be trans and also racist, that doesnt mean they arent trans but in actuality just represent an issue within the community that should be addressed

I remember me & other high schoolers being followed on the way home by Christians who were trying to indoctrinate us even after saying no and every other refusal we could think of. It was super scary at the time and just bad that the first time I was followed and met people who couldn’t take no ended up being Christian.
