  • Why not try watching less news? More and more people are choosing to take a break from the news and if you have mental health problems - and if you don't have mental health problems - a break from the news can be good for you.

I stopped watching the news during the pandemic. On the rare occasions that I now catch it, it just reaffirms my decision.

The news was at its worst during the pandemic. (Daily death totals scrolling across the bottom of the screen etc and endless repeated footage of some poor person on a ventilator!) Crazy stuff and very harmful to mental health. Thanks for commenting.

I'm a very sensitive person and stopped watching the news about a year ago. I couldn't deal with the angst of it all. Feel much happier for it. Love the birdsong in the background ❤

I love watching channels that focus on positive news, especially new initiatives to improve our relationship with the environment. Popular news focuses almost solely on the negative and is usually biased because of the people that own the news organizations. If I'm going to watch biased stuff I can at least watch kind, healing news. 😊

Nothing offends me pretty much and I try to not let things bother me but not watching the news is brilliant advice, in the last 6 or 7 years I can count on one hand all the stuff I’ve learned from the news.
I only basically watch it because people at work do and I feel sorry that think they have to watch it.

    Haven't watched it since COVID.
I hear what I need to . There's really nothing to be gained by watching the news as it's all outside our control.

There's such a social expectation to be "informed". Its good to know whats going on in the world but it seems like a lot of people equate awareness with helping, when really you're just exhausting yourself. I'm in my early 20s and have been trying to get off of social media fully for years and often when i talk to other people my age about it they say they'd like to quit it but theyre worried about being out of touch. When you start to step away from these things you realize how much of what is stressful about life today is completely unnecessary, and there are very few consequences to giving it up.

Really great comment - thank you. Social 'norms' are a huge thing to overcome, but as you say once you do you realise it's not that scary and you then create space and the possibility for others to do the same if they choose. Have a great day.🥰
