It's really great to finally see an in-depth guide on ornery points, an aspect of beefalo taming that is not at all common knowledge. I was freaking out watching your beefalo sit in that field of tentacles but it makes perfect sense. Keep up the great vids!
I'd usually go with rider for convenience, but having another way to fight mobs with no downside, and basically guaranteeing that i wont get pudgy is already enough to make me wanna get ornery. Thanks for the guide my dude
Its a life saver for some characters . Ornery does same damage as a dark sword (though I think you need war saddle for that) and you can ignore "on hit" effects since the character doesn't (unless its a ranged mob)
@@shadowkhan422 wendy is pretty much the perfect example, when Abigail is down or when it's a single very tough enemy, beefalos can save your life. Only downside i can think of, is the fact that ranged enemies will kill YOU and not the beef (bishop is a good one to mention).
Just rechecked the wiki and Ornery has speed of 7(which is base beefalo speed) with damage of 50 vs Rider with speed of 8 and only 25 damage . 1 point of speed to get 30 more damage sounds like a good deal. The only major downside on Ornery is obedience maintenance
I think Maxwell will benefit from a Ornery Beefalo the most. Maxwell having 75hp is kept safe from most damage while ontop. His shadows doing all the Mining and Chopping you need means you don't have is dismount too often. Also getting to use a Piggyback mean he is even better at gathering resources.
If you're on a large public server with a number of people hanging around base, plant a few flowers and farm the hell out of butterflies. Decent way to get a glossamer saddle and acquire about 60-70 ornery points. Add that to normal combat you'll probably be doing and you're quite likely to get ornery!! Plus, beefalo feels really good to wreck butterflies with, due to it's speed
@@RileyIsntDead Now that I think about it, it's probably to avoid picking other flowers around the farm, so they just hope it spawns from the planted ones from the numbers. I do it manually so a single flower is enough, if I'm not mistaken about the respawn timer being universal for every flower nearby.
How to tame a rider Beefalo: 1 - Build a small room using fences. 2 - Put there something, like a twig 3 - Close that room 4 - Using ActionQueue Reborn try to get this twig 5 - Character on a beefalo will run into wall 6 - Feed the beefalo to tame it, brush it if you wanna. Dont forget to feed yourself and deal with hounds. 7 - Get your Beefalo
It's not very efficient even if it works. You could be doing so much more, collecting resources, actually exploring the map instead of running a treadmill
Another method that is as safe as the Slurtle method, but without the hassle of going to the caves is waiting for the first spring, getting a Lureplant, and planting their bulb on artificial terrain. Then all you need to do is beat the crap out of it until it dies, dismount your Beefalo, replant it, and mount again. It's not nearly as efficient as any of the methods mentioned here, but it's a good newbie friendly way of getting the ornery trait.
I like the ease of that method, however, i wouldn't call trying to tame a beefalo during spring newbie friendly. You could definitely wait until after spring, but then you would be missing at least 2 seasons of prime beefalo taming.
Honestly the best RUclipsr when it comes to anything related to beefalo taming. All of these methods are good, but I think I’ll stick to #3, because I’d probably mess something up on the others. Also, when you fully tame your beefalo to 100% domestication, can the beefalo still be untamed?

But that tentacle strat looks really good I will be sure to try it out
It's as simple as caring the very bare minimum for a beefalo every day. Default occurs when all the trait values are equal. If they all stay at zero, then they're always equal. To keep them at zero, never over feed it, don't ride it, and don't let it take damage. That's it. The only problem is that, without mods, it's difficult to know how much to feed it. You'll want a salt lick to help maintain it since you're basically ignoring the thing 80% of the time.
I have learned alot from watching your two beefalo videos. It would be a nice guide if you can show all the items that can be used on a beefalo or all mobs in the game that would hit the rider instead of the beefalo.
Any projectiles as a rule of them will hit the player instead (Mac tusk blow dart, rook attack, spider spit). For items used if you mean that give an effect there's not much depending on the character. Maxwell can wear shadow items while riding a beefalo and benefit from them without losing durability. Same with bone helm if you want to farm fuel without the risk of the helm getting damaged
Stats as in obedience and hp or the traits? Traits is just by looking at face. Hp is hard to judge unless its low hp, in which case your character will say something. Obedience is talked about in lardee's other video, but just feed 5 items if the beefalo wont let you back on. Need 50 to ride, and each item fed gives 10 obedience.
What did it for me was to basically just farm spiders with my wives Wendy, I was just tagging along and spamming F, taking tons of damage but dealing damage too.
