- On March, 15th 1986 a charity show called "Heartbeat" was organized by Bev Bevan to raise money especially for the Children's Hospital in Birmingham. This sold-out show was to become one of the most successful and spectacular events in British rock music history, featuring big names such as The Moody Blues, Robert Plant, UB40, the Roy Wood Band and, of course, the Electric Light Orchestra. I created a stereo remaster of the original mono audio from my VHS recording of this concert. Hope you enjoy this version!
Performed By: Jeff Lynne (vocals, guitar), Bev Bevan (drums), Richard Tandy (keyboards), Mik Kaminski (violin), Louis Clark (orchestral keyboards), Dave Morgan (guitar, keyboards, backing vocals), Martin Smith (bass, backing vocals)
Complete Listing of all the songs performed at concert:
Twilight
Evil Woman
Livin' Thing

Man whenever i listen to Jeff Lynne's songwriting and arrangements. Makes me think he would've been a great "Beatle".
Yes you're right, and I believe once John Lennon said if the beatles kept on going in the 70's the would sound like ELO because he was a huge fan of them.
Mwdobelix John called them the sons of the Beatles.
even better
Yeah, I'm sure he "would".
Bit of a different haircut though.
You can see Jeff's having some fun alternating between "Groos" and "Bruce" :')
When groos? hahahaa
@@AbnerChamate"Groos" was the original lyric. He doesn't put his lips together at 1:52 for example lmao xD
@@dramapixie14 tell me more please origin why changing it?
@@AbnerChamate I've heard Jeff Lynne say in a couple of interviews, that the original "groos" was something he just made up when he was recording in the studio, as a sort of place holder until he decided what to put there. The engineer, a German fellow, said that "groos" in German means "greetings." Liking that, Jeff left groos in the song.
As millions of people who don't speak German listened to the song, many thought Jeff was saying, "Bruce," being unfamiliar with the German language (though perhaps folks in Germany and those who speak German recognized what he was really singing?). Jeff just sort of went along with the masses, and also sang, "Bruce" when performing live, or, as in this video, alternates between "groos" and "Bruce."
I hope this is helpful. ☮ 🛸
my favorite song of all time
I'm liking this harder rock version..
Absolute Genius. It would be great if ELO did a memorial concert for Kelly.
That will never happen unfortunately. Great idea. Kelly was way way better than this clown who replaced him.
Best ever live version of this song. OLE ELO!!
BRAVO Bev Bevan.....
Would love to see them in concert, they are the ultimate seventies and hopefully played over and over again love them 👏❤️❤️🎸
Bev Bevan was the CORE of ELO
Man you get your moneys worth when you see one of Jeff’s concerts.
E.L.O. are brilliant, no question. I've always considered them a sort of guilty pleasure - a band that the world doesn't think deserves that sort of respect. If that's true, then it's the world that are wrong.
Looking forward to Jeff's new album! Cool news, that.
Amazing. This was the year I was born! Yea..wait., im….getting……..old? Ahh shut up and enjoy. It was 86 folks. Cheers! Woohoo
great voice.
alexander o
Forever jeff lynne
Bevan Rocks!
that drum solo makes me proud to be a rock fan
WOW. One of those bands that puts out albums so they have an excuse to go play live. They rock. Jeff Lynne is a fucking 100% 18kt solid gold platinum plated kryptonite coated genius.
1986, a pivotal year in history. Challenger disaster, Halley's comet, peak of the cold war, digital replaces vinyl, electronic fuel injection, could go on and on. It's great to see music like this to keep it all alive.
5:01 Guy tries to take the stage, security just trucks him off the stage
Glad to see Jeff Lynne so relaxed. He discusses with the audience. And that complicated "Bruce, grrosss" section.
Jeff knows that everyone wants to hear Bruce thought it was originally grrosss.
Well so be it !
Wow, would have loved to been at this concert. Everyone jamming hard.
this sounds f**in awesome, so strong :D never saw ELO playing like this, i like it!
Elo 1986!
Great times ❤❤❤
espectacular !!!!!
Great Compilation. Bev Bevans drums were just awesome. I played in a support band ( many years ago ) with ELO and was knocked bloody sidewise with Bev's drumming. ELO for ever !
I L-O-V-E ELO! Always Did - Always Will! They are my all-time favorite rock band - BAR NONE! I have most of their LPs - when I play them, I play them LOUD!
The guy trying to get on the stage at the end. Priceless!
LMAO-The guy at the end trying to get up on stage, gets snatched up!
One of the favorite songs of Kurt Cobain.
Solo!
Thank you SO much for posting this! I've been searching to get a hold of this concert over the years...but had completely forgotten about it until, by chance, I found this. Great concert.
Wish I'd been there. Thanks for posting. I love Jeff 'n' Bev.
Największy przebój Electric Light Orchestra z płyty Discovery wykonany w pełnym składzie zespołu Electric Light Orchestra .
this is world championship !!!
I kind of enjoy this pace, and there's a guitar solo too.
As great as ever and some boss drums.
ELO and Jeff Lynne ROCKS!!!
This is Bev Bevan who is the original drummer for ELO. And I'll grant you, he does sound a bit out of practice.
i wish i would have been alive 2 see this...
one of the best of the best
It is a very different song at this accelerated pace. But excellent nonetheless. I think I'll go back and listen to the studio version now...ELO ROCKS...
I'd love to go to their concert
Wow, did they really play it this fast?
This really was the Dark ages for the Electric Light Orchestra .There are no more string players and lush arrangements and Kelly being Fired
Keep that shit in ELO discord and r/ELOcirclejerk. We don’t need your negativity. You call your self a fan, yet you constantly bash on Jeff in many different videos. It’s annoying.
They played 'Calling America' too, but I don't think it was broadcasted. Too bad no proper Live performances of it, with the original band is out there.
Thank You this is so special.
brilliant wish they would play live again
This song is awesome!
You did an excellent job! You are making an old Dutch fan very happy.Peace to you all.
Why wouldn’t you stop the drums during the crowd participation part in the last “No No No” 😫. Would’ve been epic.
What a great live performance.
Mik on keyboard
My heart skipped a beat @1.37
a favorite for sure
😘😎❤️🙌❤️
Sounds very surfer beat. Nice live version.
Actually this was the first song that didn't use strings. It was all synths after this time.
Thanks so much for uploading this. Great show. I would love to see Livin thing, Turn To Stone and Calling America from this show!
Pretty damned good live version of an old favourite
Amusing and lovely!
That's spectacular show!!!!
Great song
Thanks for posting this. The audio on my old VHS sounds like someone threw a blanket over it.
Клево!!
this music awesome Im lovin it oH yeah
Better than the Beatles!
The best part of the whole show was ELO. Roy Wood was great also. I only sat through that tripe UB40 were playing cos I had to wait for the aformentioned. I left before The Moody Blues could put me in a coma.
elo fix ahh addictive!
The Masters
Superb!
Did I see Mik Kaminski playing keyboarg???
Very cool.
class act
yeaaaaah!
MUY BUEN MATERIAL
AMEN!!!
They performed a complete concert set of 16 songs that should be sold on DVD for profit and benefit The Children Hospital in Birmingham. ELO fans would love to get their hands on a complete concert from this time period. Why this hasn't happened is anyone's guess?
Fantastic! Hope you don't mind but I've added this video to my own channel mattgough917.
I remember watching this on TV and being so thrilled to see them live again. Later that year I saw them at Wembley stadium 'supporting' Rod stewart. The crowd were a bi6yt lukewarm at the start but by the end they were wild and stole the show from Rod. A bit like this one where they stole it fom The Moody Blues. Fab!
Leathal 😎
People complaining that this version is too fast. Well, if it's too fast then why is it a minute longer than the album version?
um, cause of the drum solo at the start? but, it was Bev's event, he got to show off a bit more than usual
BTCRAIL101FILMS cuz they play longer it's way faster dumb ass do u have ears
the theme song of the hong kong sevens! i was there!
ELO? ....you can stop an Elien race invasion from another galaxy with their sound and tune even get them to bounce back to where they came from singing Mr. Blue Sky ! ! ! ...rock on ...for ever ! ! ! any prase is way down beneth their talent... (that felt gooood, been waiting 35 years to say that...no net on Jupiter !)
well i couldnt imagine Jeff prancing about the stage in a cat suit? Queen were a different beast, freddy had to jump around cos he was mainly the singer only where as jeff was lead main guitarist and singer, both fabulous bands the like of which we will never see again......thanks to musical vampires like Simon Cowell!
2:28, That dude is rockin' out
good twelve bar blues song
❤❤❤❤😘😎⚘
Jeff
was that Bruce Lee in the song don't bring me down awesome group and the other awesome too
You and Me Both
love the guy they drag down, at the 5:03 mark ... right of center, from the stage! .... lol ..... looks like he fell off backwards ...... ouch!!!
@TheMacciz Don't worry it's your list (and a good one at that). But I never like to choose best or favorites so I always end up listing all the bands I like, which is somewhere in the hundreds. :)
NICE FREAKING GUITAR
Your the AUDIO Master Blaster..
Yo man....
with strings????? i think its perfect the way it is.......i mean dont you think strings woulld've been a bit odd in this song lol.......well every gets there opinion. now they did use strings in ummmmm do ya, and it worked there.
Giggity giggity giggity!
I guess Jeff thought it would be cheaper to dump Kelly, and the rest of the orchestra and cut corners. So fucking sad!!!!!
This is a text comment. It is not a futile and empty shot into cyberspace that will never be seen again.
Grrooss
Blizzard life
lol! nice...
