Thank you for all my birthday messages. I never want gifts from friends or family, however, I like to buy myself something as a treat. This year’s choice was somewhat extravagant, but I had been considering using a skin foundation just for photo shoots. My journey took me to Harrods and the purchase of what can only be described as a beauty investment! That’s why I spent so long filming the makeover. Forgive me!

I too don’t use foundation; never have. Now I’m a woman of a “certain age” (60s) I feel I should?! Right now I only use No 7 concealer. I too feel foundation makes me look and feel “caked” in make up. ........It was hard to tell if the expensive foundation did anything for you on camera. You always have a healthy natural glow Jo, so I’m not sure you need it anyway. But just do what makes you feel good. Spend as much as you want on beauty, you’ve earned it - ignore the critics. Oh gosh I’m flabbergasted I really am , Just looked up the foundation , no really Jo !! I’m 80 and I think I’m extravagant with make ups using the one where she calls you Darling all the time . You know the one . It does the job makes me look years younger and her concealer is fantastic for dark rings around the eyes and sun spots ( after living in Portugal for 15 years they are obligatory :) Jo you are perky, fun and mostly very entertaining, but you don’t need a foundation costing all that money even if you can afford it . The lines are still there , you’ve earned them . You’ve got your dog, your Mum , lots of friends a fab job . You’ll need that extra money later to pay the heating bill, or is that in with the rent? Don’t line their pockets with gold they are just being greedy . Thank you for the tip …..beauty pie . I took out a years subscription and have bought some of their products nice and beautifully presented and packaged . You looked as though you had a great birthday , don’t mind me it’s just another opinion x

It’s so lovely to see you so happy with Myrtle. I lost my 17 year old dachshund this week and I am feeling so sad, he was my shadow for 17 years and living on my own my house feels so empty.
This blog is a joy , look forward to it every sunday, its so friendly and inclusive. Im constantly trying to find 'my' perfect foundation , have spent a fortune but am hopeful ! Have just ordered the new body shop one .

I would suggest trying to apply the foundation with your fingers and just tap it in. No wasted product in the brush.

You’ve struck a chord with me. My mum died a year ago this week too - just weeks off her 100th birthday. The anniversary makes January even tougher than usual so Myrtle’s antics are a special joy! Mum’s leave a big gap when they leave us. ❤️

Ok I haven’t looked up the price of the foundation as I will never be buying it. I probably could afford it but?….If you’ve not been wearing foundation, think of all the money you’ve saved over the years! I’ve probably wasted huge amounts on makeup that’s wrong for my skin or doesn’t suit me. Best to get what is right for you, and if you feel that one is, what’s the problem, it’s your money after all!

Also, Jo, you work for your money so you are entitled to spend it as you chose and on what you chose. People should not judge! Who else would do a shift from what to midnight on the radio? That’s hard work and you do it so well. Not many could do what you do. It’s a gift and a talent. You deserve to buy whatever you like! I haven’t yet heard the part where you say the price of the foundation but I stand by my comments. Just want to say also: Myrtle is so utterly adorable… hard to tell if she’s happy or sad with that breed having such a permanently lugubrious expression and what makes them so loveable.

Good for you Jo!!! Why not? For a few years, my sister and I used to buy 1 pot (shared the cost and shared the cream) of La Prairie’s Caviar moisturiser (face). My half used to last just short of a year! Friends of mine used to spend far more with all their products! We were always given quite a few La Prairie samples as well. I think the plastic plate you got in the box is to decant (using the spatula) the product onto from the jar, to then apply using your brush. Jo, I am editing my original post. The foundation did look fabulous on you,
but I think you would look just as good wearing a less-expensive one. Since you don't normally wear a foundation, it's difficult to compare. I am 76 years old and have been using the Giorgio Armani luminous silk foundation for many years. It makes my skin look luminous! I usually pay about $64, and that would be at the top of my budget. I do think it's perfectly fine to splurge on something that I feel you deserve, but I just think their price is a bit ridiculous. They have different formulas, but the one you purchased is $250, without tax! I would check around and get some samples of some others. You don't always get more if you pay more. I live in the states and was listening to your show when you talked about your trip to Harrod's and I was hoping you would include it in the vlog, then you mentioned 'to watch' in your show. It is so natural looking with a bit of glow, the packaging is beautiful, and we have to live in the 'now'. You deserve it.

Hi Jo. Another brilliant vlog. It has motivated me to start wearing foundation again. Since the first covid lockdown and having to stay indoors, I have not found the need to wear makeup and evening though we are allowed to go out, I still haven't been wearing makeup but it has contributed to me not feeling so good about myself. I want to be glamourous again. The foundation really suits you. I agree it is very natural on you but your skin is really good in the first place. Myrtle is upstaging you every week, she is adorable. Please keep on doing what you do best as your vlogs make my week and love listening to you on your radio show❤❤
It is easy to slip into that habit isn’t it? I’ve not been wearing my nice clothes but this week I decided to “dress up” every day and OH the difference it made. This vlog has me thinking that I’m going to buy a new foundation too.

I also decided I deserved this foundation. Nobody will buy it for me. Mine is in a pump bottle though. Shelf life is meant to be 2 years, and as it’s airtight it should last. I only need the smallest amount, less than a whole pump, but it really does look fantastic. I dot it on sparingly and blend with a small hourglass brush.
The foundation looks good but not £250 good. As long as you like it that's all that matters. Myrtle is getting bigger. It's even colder in London today with misty/ foggy weather. Could be snow on the way. ❄

I also turned 67 recently. Since my sister moved cross-country, I don't have anyone to celebrate my birthday with. You mentioned that you never make birthday plans, other people make them. You are very lucky! I asked a friend if she would go out to have brunch with me on my bday, was very fortunate that she was available as I asked her late because I had been sick and wasn't sure I'd be well by then. It was a gloomy January day, so I bought myself balloons and tied them up outside my apartment. No matter how old I get I will continue to celebrate my birthday!
