Her Chow half and her Jaeger are so lovely, floaty, and smooth. Excellent routines this whole Olympics and I’m glad she got a well deserved silver for her bar work.
Love her routine, she really does just float. Mustafina deserved gold and Kocian silver, both are truly talented young women. By praising on we do not have to bring the other one down, which I see most people doing on here. Disappointing.
It seems that people can't appreciate a gymnast's hard work and talent without comparing her with another gymnast and saying she was underscored so and so. Don't you people have nothing nice to say instead of saying she'll never be as good as Mustafina, she copied her, her routine is boring, ugly leg separation blah blah ? Smh
Gymnastics is a sport based on scores, and scores must be fair, don’t you think? All gymnasts work hard, but what should decide scores is the performance they produce in competition. Kocian has a lot of form breaks compared to Mustafina, so they shouldn’t get the same number, that’s why you see so much complaint here.
Acis Biléyam This is not an exhibition but a competition. In competition what matter are fair scores so those scores must be fair. The only way to determine whether a score is fair or not is with comparison.
Lovely how she stuck the land and how emotionally she was with the other USA gymnasts supporting her with a hug. She's like professional in that routine.

Alex Phaea You seem a bit confused. Kocian got higher in qualifying. They tied in team. Mustafina won in EF. That was my point. I’m not sure what you are saying.
Cantor my point is they both had the exact same highest score at some point in the comp. Both scored 15.933 in TF. So to say she outscored Mustafina suggests she got a better score than Aliya ever did in Rio. Yes, Maddie got a better score in qualifying, but she didn't outscore her because her score here didn't beat Aliya's 15.933. The way you phrased it suggests if Maddie had given this routine in the final she would have beat Aliya which is incorrect as Aliya got a 15,900. Love Maddy, she deserved to be on the team...But the best US UB there has ever been, for talent and execution, is / was Nastia Luikin...Hands down, no contest...Check her out...Unbelievable...
MrReed314 she trained alongside nastia at the same gym they definitely have similarities in terms of style you can tell nastia was a great influence to Maddie
soosie hanrahan I did not know that...And you are right, they do have similar styles...Lol: Especially the way they hold their legs, if you cut them in half you wouldn't be able to tell whose legs are whose...(Although it would not hurt for Maddie to have longer routines like Nastia did.)
The rules from 2006-2008 when Nastia competed were different from the 2013-2016 rules. They change every quad. Nastia's routine was longer because the code of points for that time counted the 10 most difficult elements in the routine. Now, they only count the top 8 elements. Also, the deductions are more strict now than they were in 2008, so most routines nowadays are as short as possible so as to reduce the amount of opportunities for deductions. You can't really compare the two when it comes to that.
She possibly also does it to protect her leg/ankle from further injury. Better to accept that slight deduction than to set yourself up for permanent damage.
Andrie Ferdy Antoni you probably couldnt even get close to doing that skill so shutup you have no idea how hard that skill is. I started working full in dismounts in a pit LAST YEAR and i still cant land upright in the pit even after almost a year working them so they're not at easy as you think
Actually, this was original for Mustafina. She did this in 2010 and no one had routines like that. Everyone else slowly moved towards that style later, but Aliya's routine is original
I think Ashton might have won the UB final.. that's just my opinion. I think she would have upgraded it, or would have had a higher DV to start with anyways. I will say that its very telling that Madison beat Aliya's scores in quals and the team final with a .10 lower difficulty score than Aliya, so even in the TF where they both got a 15.933, Madison's D score was 6.7 to Aliya's 6.8, in other words, Madison had a higher execution score throughout the olympics.
Yet the real queen of the bars delivered when it mattered and slayed Maddie with her superior difficulty. Besides, Kocian has a history of being overscored on this very event, cough *2015 UB final* cough.
She's great. It's interesting that she and Aliya both got a highest score of 15.933 in team final, but both got lower in the event final. In EF when Maddie saw Aliya got a 15.900 it was her chance to win as she knew she'd scored better than that. But a silver medal at the Olympics plus a gold in team is pretty damn good. What I don't get is why, when she went to UCLA she started standing on the low bar to get to the high bar! Yes college is easier but come on! They didn't give a scholarship to her for her to do that.
She had to have shoulder surgery in college and the transition became too risky for potential reinjury. She had to keep in mind she needed a shoulder that would work for her in her chosen career of medicine.
She really struggled with knee/ankle injuries during her elite career. My guess is she would way rather take the deduction of having her legs apart than go for a perfectly stuck landing where the risk of injury is much higher.
In team finals Maddie and Mustafina both scored 15.933 which was the highest score for both of them. In event finals neither scored that well, but Mustafina got 15.900 and Maddie got just a little lower due to a couple of low handstands.
No, she was at UCLA using transitions such as standing on the low bar and jumping across to the high bar! As an Olympic silver medalist she should really be embarrassed about that
Madison was brought to Rio as a specialist. And Aliya may have deserved the gold on bars but she won because her routine was harder. Madison's execution score was higher. She'd still get a silver medal regardless. Aliya got the Gold medal. I'd say poor Seitz because she almost had the Bronze medal until a slight step on her dismount.
She separates her legs to prevent serious injury and if she didn't the chances of getting injured are so high that she would not be able to compete in the next days of the Olympics.

That's not the point. That is Mustafina's routine. Her style. She inovated it herself in 2012. Yes Maddie is beautiful on bars, this is obvious. But there is a lot more to Mustafina being better than her than experience. (like talent, grit, longevity.). I have to agree on that. Late pirouettes, close to the bar on the release, and separated legs on the dismount.
Kim Williams She separates her legs to prevent injury.
She'd still get a silver medal regardless. Aliya got the Gold medal. I'd say poor Seitz because she almost had the Bronze medal until a slight step on her dismount.
The point is Aliya got the Gold still. It's execution plus difficulty is what makes you win.
What an amazing grasp of the English language you have. Please be sure to let the world know when you finally graduate from preschool.
NOT TOO EXCITING........ similar to everyone else, and that leg separate 0:47 is horrible......
She separates her legs to prevent serious injury and if she didn't the chances of getting injured are so high that she would not be able to compete in the next days of the Olympics.
hater
And who is both a gold and silver medalist at the Olympics? Right, exactly. Your opinion thankfully doesn’t matter a damn to anyone else.
@@saragrant9749 she is already forgotten by everyone for good hahaha
@@jlenardwang977 only by you, considering that team- her included- is still looked at with highest regard to this day. You sound like an individual with an inferiority complex, someone so small in life that you feel the need to try to bring another who has achieved greatness in life down. Epic failure. She will always be remembered as a gymnastics champion- you will be remembered for not a single thing. Let the world know when you finally graduate from preschool as it will likely be a world record for longest time spent trying to reach elementary school.
overscored
Shuk Ling Wan no it wasn't
Sinhue Herrera not really
Sinhue Herrera what was her score anyways
9.166, even higher than Aliya's and Fan's score just because she is an American.
the judges didn't give her the gold because they're scared of losing their jobs lol!
Gabby really was dead weight that year.
yep - Skinner should have gone.
Gabby was third overall in qualifying for the all around, only being eliminated by the asinine two per country rule. She rocked a 15.7+ routine in team finals and contributed to the dominant team gold. The only deadweight here is the useless fool who wrote this comment- someone who clearly never graduated from preschool.
She just copied what Musty did and the routine was really boring and overscored.
Nah Mustafina did it 50 times better and has been doing it 4 years longer.
That's not the point. That is Mustafina's routine. Her style. She inovated it herself in 2012. Yes Maddie is beautiful on bars, this is obvious. But there is a lot more to Mustafina being better than her than experience. (like talent, grit, longevity.).
I don't get why people get all up in arms when others say Maddie doesn't measure up to Mustafina. There's very few gymnasts in the entire history of gymnastics that do.
Joyce Wan Actually, since 2012 UB Mustafina's routine, everyone started doing a very similar routine. Look at the 2012 ub ef, no one even did a transition like Mustafina, but in 2016 Madison and Daria did almost the same routine except for the dismount.
Oh Fuck that shit. She's basically been doing the same routine since 2013. First she has terrible form now she's copying Mustafina. You ppl really are pathetic.
Who cares, it still won her an Olympic silver medal individually and a gold with team. When you come even remotely close to accomplishments like that, please let the world know- especially if you manage to do it while trying to complete preschool.
