If your curds are sour enough, idlis will be softer without soda.Check out the batter and add soda if necessary.

Turn it upside down , sprinkle water liberally and then take out from cloth

For baking cake We have to add baking powder and baking soda compulsory or baking soda is enough mam. Please reply mam.
For baking we need Baking powder only which gives best results

No need to grind.It should soak well.Consistency is important. Any sago you can use.You can prepare oothappam with left over batter.
