I think it's really the chords that make it sound so good. They used a Yamaha CS-80 synth, which costs very much and has one of the richest sounds ever. They apparently found it in an abandoned Church.
@@gamergoohoo true, the CS didn‘t have Midi implentation, but you can modify it afterwards so i think they did record it by hand as a loop since it‘s the same chords throughout the entire song.
@@egodipmusic I thought this was a very interesting insight about these chords and I also liked the analogy. Do you know about the "Shepard Tone"? it's basically exactly the acoustic illusion you've described
There's a really strong sense of nostalgia with this song. Every time I listen to it, I can picture myself in the past sitting at the beach, watching the sunset, and the waves, next to a dear friend. Kinda makes me want to actually experience this in the future.
My dude! You just reignited a buried belief that there is LIFE still kicking around on youtube. I haven't smiled like this at a video since the early 2010s. This was beautifully imperfect and real! A reminder that we have full permission to have fun, explore why we enjoy certain songs and shush the perfectionist in us that keeps us from doing whatever we want. You did amazing. I'm so happy.
Dude you have no idea how many times how many drives I’ve had listening to this song replaying it over and over again paying attention for this exact reason - thank you so much there is definitely an audience for this
The melody... this song is nothing but a great chorus melody. It sounds exactly like walking on a dream but essentially it inspires hope and a feeling of "its all going to be alright" The arrangement wont matter that much. Put the melody in any vibe and itll hit just as hard
Killer video! The barber pole analogy just blew my mind. It’s a great way to explain a song that just seems to keep revolving and resolving as changing notes just continue to replace themselves. The analogy works with so many of the best pop hits, I’m sure! I’m off to investigate.
for me what makes this song so impactful is the counterplay between the vocals and the chords of the chorus when that transition happens. it’s like the ultimate release, except the momentum continues on.
I broke my 'no screens at the dinner table' rule to watch this. Great job all round 👏 It was like watching an old vivid memory of a good day of music making.
I used to produce/record music decades ago so RUclips knows to feed me a steady diet of related videos. I watch all kinds of music- and production-adjacent content.
hey man keep makin' these videos i'm in a band and the songs you're covering reproductions of are the songs that me and my friends actually listen too which I think is rare here on youtube tbh 99% of music production channels are either top 100 pop, edm, or like boomer rock I'm just hopin' you keep going cause I feel like i found the channel made for me and it's fr inspiring
@@natohutch if he tuned the guitar beforehand it wouldve fixed the problem, but its not meant to be perfect. He just wanted to figure out the different parts and instrumentation of the song :) So i think its passable
The vocals were good!! I agree the chords make the song along with the hihat at the beginning. It lets you know you're in for something big... but not yet. Great remake!!
Great video dude! Another thing I don't see a lot of people bring up is the original isn't tuned to A440. That alone makes us feel like it's a "warmer" sound.
Mate, your voice REALLY made it such a good one. The voices was in the original form the glue that bonds everything together and was also really done well. Words were funky and rhymed very groovy. You also did exactly that. Hats off great vid
I love that there's place for channels like this, alogrithm seems not that evil for second. I love this song. In 2009 I was flying to states on student exchange programme where I could work and travel (literally the name of the programme) and as we were taking off from paris airport to get to another continent, america this song started playing on the plane just casually. It made the whole experience even more like fever dream. It's beautiful song and the summer od 2009 in states was literally walking on a dream. Great video, always felt trash 2 has lots of potential but it kinda overwhelmed me with options, to use for bass amp sim, that's a new one. And it did sound good! Love the idea for the video too, it's something I figured out too, as a musician I always wanted a hit but then it dawned on me... How am I wanting to write and produce a hit from idea in my head if I would not be able to recreate one from a recording that I can listen too! But I never went as far as you in recreating, great to be here and learn.
The tal-verb is free also and is amazing! It has some features my “expensive” reverbs don’t have. Definitely recommend. I’ll have to get that flanger too, shout out to that company. Also thanks for the video, made my morning an entertaining & informative one
Great vid and breakdown/remake. Good on ya for going for it on the vocals, you did an amazing job with them. The algorithm brought me here... seems this one is popping off for you.
Ive always loved this song so much because around that time I was only 6 years old but I was starting to be really fixated in music but I didn’t really told anyone since around that time my parents were working out there divorce. I really enjoyed your explanations and I got really giggly the way you explain the transitions of the chords because its really how it feels. You are very passionate when it comes to breaking the song down. Ive always wanted to make a cover of this songs and by just watching your video my head feels much lighter lol. I can now create the parts with ease. I have ADHD and sometimes i get stuck in this freeze state where i know what i must do but if I move I feel like I might die lmao. Nonetheless I loved the video man🧡
Awesome Breakdown!!! I feel like music is such a capsule of the time that it was recorded. That even with the same exact gear and mixing its impossible to recreate the essence of the original. But thats not a bad thing it just means your version is capturing a different essence. Ur essence... pause but yea sick video
I couldn’t agree more. Crazy too how singular vocals are. A different voice completely changes the vibe of a song. Also the essence thing made me laugh lol
New sub I have respect and jealousy for multi instrumentalist!!! I was shouldn’t have stop learning guitar I would be tracking live guitar and bass by now!!!
It’s never too late! I don’t really “know” guitar but I’m comfortable using my ears to find sounds that I like. But a few years of lessons in my teens have given me the muscle memory in my fingers
Hell yeah, I love remaking songs as a fun practice between working on my own stuff. I just did one of their song Chrysalis off that same album. Another catchy song I had never really listened to till recently. ❤ Love the vid tho man, good work!
That was awesome from start to finish, such a nostalgic feeling song that felt even felt nostalgic the first time I heard it. I usually struggle to get through videos like these but you seem like a cool dude who everyone loves to be friends with. Can't wait for more of these 😎

That’s so cool!! Great info, thanks for sharing :) I guess that’s why those chords sound so heavenly
@@l0riz624 does that mean it is also prob not quantized since its an analog synth?
@@gamergoohoo if the synth has midi, you can quantize it.
@@l0riz624 they were probably doing direct in. Def not midi with a DAW plugin....

Here to just reinforce trust your instincts- that barber thingy analogy made complete sense to me
This was dope as hell. Especially the singing part. Reminded me of myself when I sing karaoke lmao

The visual of the barber pole was super spot on

There is a term for this kind of acoustic illusion. It's called "Sheperd Tone"

This version has a more nostalgic/retro feeling. Like it!

Interesting, what made you click on the video?

Though sounding a bit stoney at times, i thoroughly enjoyed your attempts at explaining how the different parts makes you feel. It’s very relatable.
Smashed the vocal performance fella, solid remake and effort
you lowkey ate that up brother
don’t stop making these or we will have a personal problem 🫡😡
Great remake, the only thing that really bothered me was the flam fill was rushed every time. Otherwise pretty spot on!
Now remake we are the people.
We need the vocal tutorial on this one!!
