Some of their videos have over a million views, it's a shame that album didn't sell a million copies. It's probably one of the most influential metal records of all time.
This song was like a helping hand pulling me from bottom of my live while in the hard corner of one where suicidal tendencies starts. Now as a happy man i`m every time crying listening this and getting flashbacks. Being stronger mentally as i ever been, i`m going forward with head up grabbing every one doubting in their own fate with myself. Powerful piece of art this song is.
Pfff thats heavy… i myself am going through a difficult period as well an music helps as specially the this band. Anneke is pure gold. First time for me was 30 years ago!
There's no such band like The Gathering, truly unique. I'm so proud to be a part of their lives as I worked for them as their merchandiser, I will never forget all the shows I've witnessed in the nineties 💚
"my dear, don't leave me now close at the edge of my end all this time you have been my friend don't go, stay for a while my dear, you're losing me now this will be my last hour hear my voice, see my face see how sick i am how i long for your embrace"
When i see Anneke' s smile everything looking like rainbow even during dark sounds . She have beautiful heart , soul, smile and voice. Anneke is angel without wings ♥️🤗
I love how she handles rude shouters at her acoustic concerts, this woman rocks so much... And I never for a second saw her loosing her shit and be unpolite.. Amazing human being.
Oh my, oh my. This is definitely my favorite uhm, era? Epoch? The 94-98 years. They looked so young, and Anneke, oh my god. Anneke looked beautiful. Not that she doesn't now, but back in those days they were all young. I mean, I'm 22, lol. So I was never there or anything, but I wish I had the chance to be 18-20 in the mid 90's, having the chance to see one fo their performances. Damn.
No se cuantas veces habré escuchado este tema y no me desengancho de él. Denso, embriagador. Esa oscura melodía, la voz de Anneke, la increible, maravillosa, compleja y dulce voz de Anneke. Todo es magia.
If anyone is interested in knowing, the quote at the end was by a French feminist writer and philosopher named Simone de Beauvoir and the quote was recited by J.R.R. Tolkien. Tolkien quoted de Beauvoir in a BBC documentary from the 60's. The audio clip here is taken from that documentary.
I don't think so. I had to google it, but it looks like the audio clip at the beginning of Eleanor is from a National Geographic documentary. Such an amazing song.
An epic performance by everyone. It was by random chance in 1995 that discovered this band while listening to a Century Media compilation. Amazing vocal by Anneke and excellent song writers by the everyone involved.
Anneke was soo hot and beautiful back then. I still think she is hot and beautiful but she was way younger then and I loved her long beautiful hair. Her voice is so awesome. I loved the way her voice sounded in holding notes, very beautiful voice indeed, with the unique sound the band has!
I love The Gathering, have ever since I first encountered them. Sand and Mercury will probably forever be one of my favourite songs, it's so magical and mesmerizing.
Holy Hell! This is the greatest Gathering song ever! I have never since witnessed such perfection! Mandylion was when I fell irrevocably in love with Anneke. How could you not want to cherish her for all time? And Holy Fuck, that sample intro at the end made me jones for some In Motion #2 too!
XD
It's J.R:R Tolkien talking about life and death: there's no such thing as a natural death nothing that happens to man is ever natural since his presence calls the whole world into question all men must die, but for every man his death is an accident and even if he knows it in a sense to it an unjustable violation whether you may agree with the words or not but those are, the key-spring of the lord of the rings
Yes actually it makes a good coincidence that those words are spoken by J.R.R Tolkien. Sand and Mercury is just like Life and Death. Unseperable pairs, tightly connected to each other...
This song from The Gathering is still my all time favorite. ❤
the saddest most beautiful song in the world...
Mind blowing epic of a song!
Anyone else get chills when this woman sings?
I do, but even with just the music I get chills
2022. Yes, btw.
@@devekut2 same here, who is she? still active?
@@Turbo-D Anneke Van Giersbergen, 49, Dutch, and yes.
More like the hots, to be honest.
20 years later, my skin still has goosebumps of this song...
Goosebumps Gentcho! :) :) :) Anneke the Goddess! :) :) :)

Conozco de lo que hablás. No estamos solos. Te abrazo fuerte desde Corrientes, Argentina
I hope these bad thoughts are fleeting. Whatever you need, we're always here to support you and do good. Hugs from Brazil!!!!!
Man I miss this band so much. Their music could hit you in the feels, not many bands have the ability to seemingly touch your soul.
There's no such band like The Gathering, truly unique. I'm so proud to be a part of their lives as I worked for them as their merchandiser, I will never forget all the shows I've witnessed in the nineties 💚
luckyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
The GOLDEN YEARS... Someone please use a time-machine and return them BACK !

all this time you have been my friend
don't go, stay for a while
my dear, you're losing me now
this will be my last hour

Written from the heart. Very poignant and emotional, and sung so beautifully.
René Rutten is one badas.s guitar player. What a legend🤘
When i see Anneke' s smile everything looking like rainbow even during dark sounds . She have beautiful heart , soul, smile and voice. Anneke is angel without wings ♥️🤗
Her wings are there but invisible to mortal eyes. She was The Queen of Spiritual Psychedelic Metal when Floor and Simone were kids.
No soy la única que siente lo mismo
Anneke, yoy most beautiful creature in the universe!
I envy those who have been lucky to listen to this wonderful music live

yes, an amazing era, I was in the "nighttime birds tour" one of my favorite gigs of all time
Rock im Park 1999, I think. She wore a yellow mini dress, green football socks and sneakers.

Hello Eruantano, the voice in Eleanor is also Tolkien? Thanks :)
I don't think so. I had to google it, but it looks like the audio clip at the beginning of Eleanor is from a National Geographic documentary. Such an amazing song.
Thank you for sharing that. it's really appreciated, and I suspected it was from Lotr. but now I know the origin
Mr. Tolkien has been demonised by the communist and the fake liberal ! We have to study this Historic problem.
Can't believe she used to bring herself to fuck Sartre.
