Dolly Parton wrote this song in 1973 and took it to the top of the country charts three times herself, in the 70s, 80s and as a duet in the 90s, but Whitney Houston's cover from the Bodyguard soundtrack is by far the better known version and many people have no idea it is a Dolly original. Whitney sang it with power and Dolly sang it with emotion.

There's a reason Dolly's original will make you want to cry. She wrote the song. There's a story behind it. She was trying to tell someone something. She is feeling every word she's singing because her heart is in it. Whitney, who magnificently showcased her singing ability with her cover, couldn't have felt what Dolly felt. How could she? It was just a song to her. No emotions are conveyed in the Whitney version, just talent.
