  • Greetings Plofessors!
Today we are going to be doing a deep dive into one of Korea's most infamous cults, JMS (also known as providence). After getting exposed by Maple Yip and the Netflix documentary "In the Name of God: a Holy betrayal", JMS has been making headline news throughout Asia and Australia, and the cult's perverted leader, 정명석 Jung Myeong Seok 's, disgusting acts are finally coming to light. In this video, we will be speaking to a former member, Rome, to get a first hand look at how life was inside JMS, and the tactics the cult used to brainwash him and other members.
    Intro: 0:00
    Sex scandals: 2:32
Life in JMS (ft. Rome): 11:27

The conservative people would hate it. Here in Brazil they hate the idea of kids to learn what is sexual abuse (they fake that kids will learn what sex is, when in fact they would learn when to tell someone what happen if happened), imagine learning that some religion might be used to make bad stuff...

I had a PSYC 101 class in uni where my professor taught about cult recruitment tactics, and I 100% agree. This stuff should be more widely known because the extent of how far they will go just to sell you a lie IS INSANE. (He also drew parallels between cult recruiters and marketing tactics as well I suppose... So that might somewhat be helpful as well if you're trying to learn that :'D)

I can't speak for other countries but in Germany (Ba-Wü.) , I was taught about in school around like 8 or 9th grade.
And I also think that children should be taught about cu_lt's in school because it's best for their safety to know the tactics that they use, how dangerous they are and how the victims are treated (e.g. getting cut off from their family, ectr.).

I hope the attention this situation gets makes the reconsider giving him a longer sentence next time

I watched the documentary In the name of God: A Holy Betrayal, and from start to finish I was sick to my stomach. Especially him. He was so disgusting and vile for what he did. He knew what he was doing and didn't care as long as he got what he wanted. Also what appalled me even more was while he was in prison, how they kept sending him pictures of the girl and when he came out he went right back to doing what he was doing

I assumed a cult like this took off in Korea because Catholicism is quite big there. But the fact that they recruit young people by trying to be a "hip with the kids" church that doesn't even seem religious on the surface is disgustingly crafty. Glad Rome and other members got out.
I also can't get over the fact that people are being led to somehow believe that the next coming of Jesus, personally selected by God...is a random Korean man.

One thing I noticed is that Rome said he got recuited during freshman year of college. Here in the philippines, before 2016, highschool is only 4 years and students usually graduate and enter college at 16/17 years old. Keeping that in mind Rome must have been really young (16/17 yrs old) when he got recuited and brainwashed

    • @John-bu2xt

The funny thing is that he/they mainly recruits young girls. Governments all over need to start investigating all these so called churches or religius leaders.

It's interesting how another well known Korean Christian cult (Unification Church; aka "the moonies") was actually where Steven Hassan actually escaped from, and later brought about his BITE model.

The stories of the victim are so heartbreaking. It is easy for people to blame the followers asking them why they support him in the first place, and this is victim blaming at it's peak. This way of highlighting victim's voices and their stories is so important. You work is so important.

Honestly, the fact that you were not allowed to take the lesson without dealing with being proselytized at/being forced to go to church in return is a red flag as is. Maybe it's my utter intolerance for religious institutions and how they try to convert the unwilling, but this is bullshit even in non-cults. If it's meant to be a college club, then the service is free, period. None of this "hidden" fee of proselytization/conversion, or the organization gets fined to hell and back. The colleges should be sued for allowing those parasites into their campuses in the first place.
Basically, all of these tactics basically target people who are too polite to tell someone "excuse me, I did NOT sign up to be a member of any Church, what the hell is this?" or to just eyeroll their way through the frivolous ceremony and then never join up on the things they were signed up for. In this case, "rude" or more direct people wouldn't fall into this because they weren't socialized into just going along with something for the sake of politeness (which, sadly, many people have since the rich and powerful like the meek).
I'm normally not for the death penalty, because it is very easy for it to be used against minorities and the vulnerable rather than actual out of control monsters, but cult leaders deserve the good ole two bullets and a shallow grave treatment.

It's really gross how these cult leaders all abuse religion in the same ways; "I'm the second coming of Christ/I'm God, and therefore my SAing you is a divine act and not abuse." So not only do the victims have the trauma of the acts, but they have the trauma of religion hurting them.

This isn't surprising - this has been happening for decades especially in Hollyweird. When you think your fav celeb is thanking "god" its not the same as what we think. Its also telling because they target children who are interested in the entertainment/art/sports industry... that tells you a lot.
This is textbook ways to groom someone, using religion. The bible can be used for good and evil, so be mindful of who your around and understand symbolism, so you'll know if this is good or evil.

I wasn't in a cult like this, but my old church was very cult-like. We were told to only trust church sources of information and that anyone saying bad things about the church were miserable and trying to drag us into sinning and being miserable with them. When you questioned anything, you were told to pray, read scrpture, and have faith until you stopped thinking that way. It kills your curiosity and encourages blind obedience, and they start indoctrinating you as a kid. Being in environments like this makes you think differently, and the fear of being ostracised or disowned by loved ones stops people from speaking out even when they have doubts. It's awful and I hope the victims of JMS get justice and can begin to heal.

Me & my friends dodged a bullet (more like a nuclear missile) with a cult as well. In my country is not really usual, but these guys came from other countries and their cult was from SK as well, and yeah, it was weird. We went to a few gatherings out of curiosity but it was really sketchy so we cut contact and tbh, best decision. I did my own research and turns out they had some sex trafficking allegations but not proved, so at least we were not in big danger. Either way, kids, be skeptical and keep your eyes open. Take care.

Btw if it wasn't Crazy Grace, might have been Midnight Theories, or if you speak french, Togen maybe?
      I can't recall precisely either 😅
Who will do a full documentary on it beside Ploopy?
      DKDKTV? 🤔

This is why I rejected Christianity as a whole, don't want to get involve and get trapped into something like this.

While watching this series, I had a great idea for producer to do a show where all this cult leaders that claim to be the messiah fight it out, you know like a debate on why they are the real messiah and not the other cult leader. That would be a fun watch

Not sure if you will see this comment, but I think now is the time that you need to invest in some good sound recording equipment or something to make the sound quality better. Your videos are well made and I can see a lot of work was put in, but the sound is a little letdown, you ever have over 220k followers and I think its time you got a better microphone, and even a studio or some place to record in for better sound quality.
    Just a thought.

omggg ToT SPONSORSHIP!?! 🤭 i havent seen Marius in a couple of days and now i feel like i’ve been caught cheating 😂😂
on a more serious note! Excellent video! its so true that prevention is as important, if not more, than a cure! it was such a great breakdown of the manipulation tactics used too! It must be a gigantic task to be able to live and heal from such a harrowing experience!

Watching this reminds me of a korean christian group who came to our school to teach us word of god and join them to be a member. They scouted me once and teach me about 'soul'. But since I'm an atheist, I just listened to their lesson and still reject at the end.
I don't know if they are really cults as they look fine and innocent and they are REAL koreans. In conclusion, we don't really know what we are going into unless we already entered it.
