Hey Brothgar, Thanks for.making so.much Oxygen Not Included content Thanks to you I play the game and actually survive. Always enjoy how you test things so I don't have to waste time on them in a game. I tend to say it's game over when my original 3 dupes die. So knowing how to set things up helps and I learned most of it from you so Thank you so very much you are a ONI Scholar and a ONI Saint sir!
This game really needs some quirky robots that don't need sleep, but need to recharge. Plugging in or carrying batteries they eat and when they do the depleted batteries come out the other end. If they get wet they short out and have to be repaired..
I love Brothgar much more than any other ONI RUclipsr since he just has amazing basic knowledge on how to manage and do everything! He also has great ideas that really push the game mechanics to the edge!
a dropdown of what duplicants we want is an EXCELLENT idea because i can never get liam or banhi to show up on the starting selection and they're big faves of mine So I Want Them
You should most definitely use the germy clean water (out of the sieve) for the carbon skimmer and not the clean water. Note that when you have a closed loop like that with the sieve the water will eventually heat up. Also it might be a good idea to make a third output from the sieve that drops overflow water into a pool or something so the pipes dont get blocked because you generate a lot of water. So once you get to it you can clean if of germs with an aquatuner and cool the remaining water..? At least thats the way i do it. Looking forward to more of this series. Keep up the good work and never stop accepting new challenges!
My best air vent system so far has been a liquid O2 line to each room and a vent block on the floor on the far side of the room. Then I have pipe heaters so the O2 isn't too cold, or I use radiating pipes if it's a hot biome. Seems to work better than most filter systems. Then I dig down until an oxyfirn is near the bottom for co2 processing. Pipes occasionally freeze or boil, but it's rare
Yeah want to see some Algae Terarium action there ... btw keep an eye on the Water Sieve. From what i can see, the water it outputs is flat 40°C (104°F) which will make your base quite hot really fast :( learnt that the hard way. One of the earliest things you should try to make, is a Hydrogen/Wheezewort chamber, or if you want to do it with machines only in the beginning a Hydrogen chamber cooled by an Thermo Regulator which itself could be placed inside a tank of Polluted Water ... if you feed the heat to the PW and run it through the Water Sieve it should destroy some heat. Hydrogen chamber itself than can be used to cool the base, with radiator pipes
YES! They need to add some ability to choose your starting Dupes. Consistently I spend 5-15 minutes spamming the cycle button trying to get my ideal starting three before even loading the map.
The water system was a really good idea! I was thinking about the auto sweeper, can it load the polluted water automatically in the pitcher? That would help in the algae room. Take care of the germs! The immunity dropped significantly near the end of the episode. Nice to see this new challenge! I wanna see the new solar panels working with a lot of shine bugs around them xD
Since at the moment you only have 2 valves for your polluted water, you could prioritize and guarantee water to your bathrooms by: having one sensor and 1 not gate; run the raw signal to the overflow (algae at the moment), and the not signal to the bathroom. This way if the bathroom pipe does not have water it will get all of the output, not half. Additionally if you moved the sensor back a bit, you will reduce the chance of the pipe running dry for the sink before water gets flushed back in.
Test: Gas Cooling VS Liquid cooling VS Solid cooling If solid cooling works you might implement a cooling system in this base using conveyor belts and automatize the system.
Well, the thermal conductivity of copper is 250 times higher to that of hydrogen so that is not the problem. You probably meant heat capacity which is lower in solids than gases. This is however offset by the fact that conveyor belts move a huge mass compared with gas pumps. Brothgar already made a system using conveyors to cook fertilized and it worked (somewhat) but fertilizer is not the best solid for heat exchange and he never tried using the conveyor belt to cool off the environment using copper or exotics like wolframite or diamond.
You're basically me when Im clicking through the initial character selection. its the most brutal part of this game. Especially when you accidentally double click and you see a glimpse at the states you were looking for. I went so far as to have created a pixel detection application in auto-it to click for me, and when it detects a combinations of pixels in the right places it stops clicking next and i can check if its what I want. Its almost like a minigame for me.. a time consuming mini game....
Ultimate Automation Challenge, is it like a self sustainable base that you can AFK on it over night and everything is perfectly fine when you come back??
I see! Here are some tips that might be useful; Build Ladders next to Entrances/Exits so Dupes don't travel to unnecessary places. Keep Some Pneumatic doors (Bed rooms, Latrine, etc (Rooms that does not needed to be closed)) open so dupes don't need to wait for the Open/Close Animation.
I know we're trying to maximize automation, but there is a much simpler way to make your recirculating restroom pipe loop. You just need to strategically use a bridge after the sieve to create an overflow valve. Basically, liquids (and gasses) will always prefer to go through the inlets if they can. So if you put a bridge as a T-joint on your outflow pipe, and take the bridge output to the restrooms, the water will always flow to the restrooms until it backs up to the T and then it will overflow down the other path, off to your plants or electrolyzers or whatever else. This way your restrooms should always have priority on the water coming off the sieve and only the excess generated from the toilets will run off, no sensors or valves needed. I like to build up a bit of extra pipe so I have a reservoir of water going to the toilets in case the power goes down or sand runs short. Other people have also mentioned this, but you'll want to insulate those pipes or use abyssalite; I about cooked my last base because I forgot the water off the sieve is 40C running straight through my habitat.
I used to love this game, but the seemingly unavoidable heat death bugs me - last i played there are no structures to remove heat permanently(plenty to move it about though), only those to add. The only mechanic I remember to remove heat are weezeworts but i'm assuming you will never find enough to outweigh all the sources of heat that spawn in the map(looking at you steam geysers), let alone offset all the heat your dupes and electrical systems produce. The only other methods I think were exploits where some material changes/resource creations reset the heat levels compared to the components from which they were made, again not ideal. Has this changed at all to date or are we all still doomed to a heat death in the asteroid ?
The most interesting thing about space being open, is if your base can decompress if opened. Or will the heavy gasses say low? They shouldn't, but they might in this game.
I find it hilarious that finding Meep was worth 20 minutes of refreshing..also in terms of Factorio, I'm almost up to 8k Science per minute builds lol.
I've been watching every single series of ONI that you've done... and I'm SO EXCITED for this one. I was sad when the video ended.. it needed to be longer. :P
You should rethink the water cycle... Water sieve does not kill food poisoning germs from the toilets. I think it is ok to use that water for bristle berry (*although the output temperature of the water sieve is 40 celsius degrees..) but you get food poisoning from using it for the sink or shower
Does a dupe with the Small Bladder trait still produce the same amount of excess polluted water when they use a toilet? Trying to figure out if Small Bladder will result in double the water gain.
Not sure if you will see this comment (just started to watch this series) But lavatories are not "lazy" solutions. True lazy is when you pee on the floor, not bothering to go to the bathroom. So you cant claim to have "lazy" duplicants that you are forcing to go to the bathroom!
How do you figure? The water is delivered automatically by a pump, the polluted water drips passively to the reservoir, and the algae is delivered by conveyor arm from the receptacle. The only issue is getting the algae into the receptacle.
I dunno... Does Algae Terrarium's PO2 need to be emptied into bottle ? or does it just flood out ? Screenshot - i.gyazo.com/ff661ec4a0e3af7812f3d78848e506a0.jpg
How I handle food: Xlad-derX X box X X X X X Simple lil thingi where dupes can reach below and the carbon dioxide goes down too It doesn't even matter at wich height you place it as long as you keep someone there to fill in the original four tiles
Oooh. How about this rule? Every time you need a person to do something, that can't be automated, they are allowed to ONLY do that one thing? Like empty bottles, would be someone's job, and they are stuck in one room always. Cooking food, always stuck in that one room. They'll have food shipped to them through automation.
You have a lot of problems that are an easy fix. First off, put your bathrooms in a room by itself with a sink by the exit. That way, there won't be any germs. Also, disinfect everything in your base because immunity is dropping really low so your dupes don't get sick. Also, put a dupe on mechatronics engineer so they can build some auto sweepers. Also, NOT AUTOMATION ENOUGH! You can put a storage compacter full of sand near the water sieve and a compost and a sink. The auto sweeper will sweep polluted dirt from the sieve into the compost, dupes will flip the compost, wash their hands when they walk out, and the auto sweeper will supply the sieve with sand. Here is my fully automated example: imgur.com/gallery/UeJcDjY plumbing: imgur.com/a/KRepRy7 Now, you may notice the arrow pointing to the liquid bridge in the plumbing overlay. Well, this is an overflow controller. Liquids will prioritize going down a bridge. So, liquids will always go down the bridge, unless the pipes are full and backed up. Then, it will go to the right (currently feeding fertilizer synthesizers).
Unfortunately my problem with the lavatory is that it puts out polluted water with food poisoning, and it takes way too much energy to warm the water to kill off the germs.. but that's half the fun with an automation challenge isn't it? :D
Brothgar, I have been watching you for some time now and have seen you grow exponentially in your Videos. You have a great wealth of knowledge and i hope you succeed in your youtube career, If you ever have the compelling need to play another game other than ONI. Like any other sandbox games. HMU I would love to get a chance to meet ya//play some multiplayer games with you.

"A pretty good start"
3 duplicants.
Polluted Oxygen EVERYWHERE
800cal trying to feed starving dupes

Ouuuuh this is gonna be awesome ! Already is, but I can imagine what the base will look like in a few episodes and I can't wait to see it !!!
Spend some cycles cleaning the floor and building statues and paintings. Makes all the difference in early game stress.
Excited to see what awesome automation you come up with, always been something severely lacking from my bases. Love your videos, keep it up!
Not enough Energy. We need to construct additional Pylons.
yes! Finally your starting a new series on oxygen not included

Ladders?! I thought this was suppose to be an automated base!
Wow dang, you got a ton more work done this time. I like it. I think it was good you started a new challenge.
My best air vent system so far has been a liquid O2 line to each room and a vent block on the floor on the far side of the room. 3:22 that's because the game now speaks in a 1st person (my colony) instead of the 2nd person (your colony).
Brothgor you have an awesome channel I’m pretty new to ONI and you just explain the best thank!
Love the concept for the series, can't wait to see what you come up with
and a side challenge: find meep :)
You've earned yourself a subscriber. I look forward to the next episode :)
YES! They need to add some ability to choose your starting Dupes. Consistently I spend 5-15 minutes spamming the cycle button trying to get my ideal starting three before even loading the map.

I guess your tips wont help him, i guess he records not only one episode at a time, so he might be 10hours later already ingame...
So I see this water system being problematic. Water siev doesn't get rid of germs, so the sieved water would convert to germy oxygen, no?
Yes, but thats No Problem
Pesterenan vc por aqui peste?
So you're playing Factorio Not Included now? Awesome stuff! :)
Dude, Brothgar playing Factorio would be fun.
He did a little series of it before, but stopped around blue science stage (not unusual for new Factorio players).
*FREDOOM FOR THE BORDERS!!!*

I think I remember reading in update notes that they made it so hatches don’t eat bottles of polluted water anymore.

Federico C looks like you are right. I have to test it. Definitely an interesting idea
Wish me luck, I'm starting a binge of this whole series
I like this one :) can't wait for more!

cool!
yes finally daily episodes
Fascinating. I think I need an automation for dummies video first though.
Your dupes are SO sick! lol forget about germs?
Use polluted water for the refinery since it has a higher heat capacity and vapor point, and it gives dirt/steam if it breaks.
Ultimate Automation Challenge, is it like a self sustainable base that you can AFK on it over night and everything is perfectly fine when you come back??
I see!
Here are some tips that might be useful;
Build Ladders next to Entrances/Exits so Dupes don't travel to unnecessary places.
Keep Some Pneumatic doors (Bed rooms, Latrine, etc (Rooms that does not needed to be closed)) open so dupes don't need to wait for the Open/Close Animation.
I like that you're trying to do the same "challenge" that I've been trying to do for weeks now
100% Stress base next :p
Get all Vomit dupes. No bathroom either. You will get all the water you will ever need xD
Thanks for the video
What tile types can auto-sweepers pass or not pass through?
Some dupes come only during the game. Guess Meep isn't it the initial selection.
Klei pls bring meep
At 9:30 you dont need the coal storage below when you have the receptacle.
Awesome video but you should make some buffers for water otherwise you will eventually have this pipe blocked problems
That algae terrarium buff though. (By the way, today you finally earned my sub.)
I subscribed because of your passion in nerdy things lol
Wish this was a 2 hr episode !
"Oh no, I have toooo much water because my colony is too efficient!"

Awesome. xD Can't wait to see somebody vent their base by accident or a asteroid break the seal.
Winter Hirst it is a very slow process. The only way to vent would be If someone went afk for a while.
Also needs to make a bit longer vids too :)
I agree, but you have to remember how many hours it takes him to make a 30 minutes video!
I've been trying to come up with a design that uses excess water from the toilet for oxygen generation and plant watering
"Welcome to Meep not Included where we spend extensive time clicking a button to achieve final meep"
Thanks for the video Brothgar
Anyone else thinking while he was clicking for Meep at the beginning, he was gonna find him then hit the button again by accident?😆
you should try this again with the current build of ONI
Can you make a short beginners series?
So, can we have a weekly or each episode, have the world download so we can play along?
What 3D printer do you suggest around the 300-400 range? I want to start tinkering and getting into it!
You should rethink the water cycle... Water sieve does not kill food poisoning germs from the toilets. I think it is ok to use that water for bristle berry (*although the output temperature of the water sieve is 40 celsius degrees..) but you get food poisoning from using it for the sink or shower
Brothgar, was the 3.6kg after subtracting the terrarium use or before? Trying to figure out how much is produced per dupe per day.
The math you were doing, how did you calculate how many seconds per cycle there are? Or was this a given number by klei?
Plot twist they made it so you can’t get Meep in your first 3 duplicants
Does a dupe with the Small Bladder trait still produce the same amount of excess polluted water when they use a toilet? Trying to figure out if Small Bladder will result in double the water gain.
Pray for meep
looks good. hope it don't turn into a Spaghetti pipes mess (?)
Not sure if you will see this comment (just started to watch this series) But lavatories are not "lazy" solutions. True lazy is when you pee on the floor, not bothering to go to the bathroom. So you cant claim to have "lazy" duplicants that you are forcing to go to the bathroom!
what did you use for the borderless gaming program?!
Dupes still have to manually Tidy up those Algae Terrariums, right ?
How do you figure? The water is delivered automatically by a pump, the polluted water drips passively to the reservoir, and the algae is delivered by conveyor arm from the receptacle. The only issue is getting the algae into the receptacle.
I dunno... Does Algae Terrarium's PO2 need to be emptied into bottle ? or does it just flood out ?

IDK why to build pitcher in algae room, can you give me some advice?
Do you have twitch? Here's hoping for full time RUclips!
Looking for meep. I feel ya
I did that for two hours once looking for meep.
Meep is like the pikachu of oni
You need a mechatronics engineer to build the solid transport systems
...Ya'know i haven't seen a meep in awhile either and i didn't even notice till this video
what was that with the research?
How do you get access to the newer versions?
Is the update preview out yet? I looked on Steam but I couldn't see anything. only something about the ranching upgrade Mark 2 from a few weeks ago...
Yaaaaay!! Thanks a bunch. :)
brothgar you have no choice but to try to include the massive power plant into the challenge
like if you guys want brothgar to do that
Wouldn't it be better for a element sensor rather than a atmo sensor for the CO2 chamber? The scrubber needs CO2 not pressurized CO2.
I've had double bubbles in one printer run
why did it take so long to just enable borderless windowed mode?
Yessssss!!!
Oooh. How about this rule? Every time you need a person to do something, that can't be automated, they are allowed to ONLY do that one thing? Don't add junk that will slow down the videos please. Don't need another 1000000 video challenge just make it a short interesting burst of videos ffs.

You have a lot of problems that are an easy fix. First off, put your bathrooms in a room by itself with a sink by the exit. That way, there won't be any germs. Well, there is a little thing where you can rename your dubs.
Unfortunately my problem with the lavatory is that it puts out polluted water with food poisoning, and it takes way too much energy to warm the water to kill off the germs.. but that's half the fun with an automation challenge isn't it? :D
Stay tuned for the sequel!
