My 98 Forester was "self undercoating" had an externally blown head gasket, she rolled coal and people would routinely flag me down and ask if my car was on fire 😆 Ran 40k miles like that 🤷
I’m actually impressed by that. I don’t think my buddy’s 2009 Jeep Liberty with 33” BFG Mud Terrains would make it up that without struggling more than you did.
Nice job as usual guy's! Even if I'm late to the party! I hope you are still hitting the offroad guy's. Those are great times! Well, if you're wheels are on the ground and your are still making progress without using tools!🤣😂
@@powerofyourbrains Guy's we're more than likely not that far apart. There are some pretty gnarly places here. One in particular has cliffs, water, cave which is spectacular. @@elton9721 we got rid of our 2002 and it was running just fine. Replaced it with a 2018, runs just fine. Old Forster neve failed to get us where we were going.
My problem with a forester is its so weak. Ive had the gas on the floor before up hill and it wouldn't even spin a tire. Have to get run and goes up huge hills
I have the same Forester with General Grabbers in 205/75R15 size, but would love to run a larger size. What size Grabber are you running, and how did you alleviate the spring perch interference problem?
The coilover mod makes perfect sense. Thanks! Hmm.. Maybe I'll do that when my struts wear out! Sweet car guys. Keep up the fun videos. Are you guys a part of the Mountain Roo groups? If not, check it out on Facebook..
Nah, I've taken mine on the beach. Long as you have some decent tires and don't bury it high center yourself. Just don't forget to air down, and have a recovery method. Subarus are so light compared to a typical off-road rig, they do great in the sand
Looks like those open front and rear differentials are giving your Forester some issues there. I do know of a Forester user who has installed the WRX STI's DCCD, clutch-type rear LSD, and torsen front LSD with relative success off-road. If your budget allows, getting the front and rear diffs switched to LSD's would be a seriously empowering modification.
AWDfreak Pretty much, yeah. Lol. A locker in the rear would be better, but we would be spinning wheels regardless simply due to the steep incline and irregular rocky-sandy soil composition. The Forester S models came with one, but we swapped this one in from some other subaru
Don't know what the vlsd came off of, and the center lockup is a pretty simple mod. Check out the two recent videos on our channel - we tell you all about each of those mods
Tyler Miller As of this video no, just the 1.5 or so inches from the tires. The car did just get a 2 inch lift, but haven't uploaded our latest adventure with those on yet. Its definitely better for rock crawling, but we gotta be more careful on mountain turn-arounds...or just stop putting ourself in the position of having to turn around on the sides of mountains
You are correct. However, a turbo would help to launch those rocks just a little farther. It could, technically, help with momentum, but the text is really just a dumb joke about launching rocky dirt clumps at friends. Glad you enjoyed the video!
Once you are moving it doesnt matter if the tires spin, it will translate into forward acceraleration. And if you have more tire spin you also drive faster.
ProjectGTR That's just.... not true. If your tire slips while accelerating then you are effectively losing power to the ground while having no traction. Which slows you down. The more your tires grab, the better off you are. Unless you like to get sideways of course. Lol
so how do you accelarate while drifting? yes more wheel spin. Same with drag racing, the faster the tires spin the better, either you give more power and spin more or you give less power and bog down and get stuck.
Power of your brains Hey there. I have a 2003 Forester turbo and i can say that i really miss the low range that i use to have in my ex Daihatsu Ferosa and Ford Explorer. In the Forester turbo i can only climb a steep hill by starting very fast and keeping momentuum. If i drop bellow ...2500 then it's done, it cannot rev and it slowly gets to a stop. The only thing that could really help is the low gearing. That Feroza i had could easily climb an extremly steep hill and with the Forester turbo i would struggle or fail. I really wondered why didn't Subaru put low gearing (dual) on the Forester Turbo.... Anyway it's really nice that you didn't gave up and tried until you made it up that hill :)
Power of your brains no, I watched a butt load, now you are just making false accusations. I can only think you would do that because you are bitter I politely told the truth?? Not sure though. Anyway I have taken my Tacoma up a crazier hill than any other Tacoma video I have ever seen except for one.
Power of your brains what’s with the hostility?? Right from the start.. all I did was make a polite sensible comment and immediately I get weird passive aggressive comments, LOL, I’m not your enemy, don’t get so butthurt!

In all fairness, we'd probably feel the lightest of guilt if the oil, coal, and gas companies weren't also out here doing far more damage than we could ever hope to. In many states it is like that as well. Pretty much only in areas like this can you do what we do
Who needs low range when you can just smash your foot to the floor?
You'd be correct, but we believe only in heavy footedness and sarcasm...at least until someone is gracious enough to ship us a dual range
Ha ha in the UK foresters have a low range box only used it for towing because I have the 2.0 naturally aspirated boxer
The 2.5 we got here in murica' would be awesome with DR, but at least we got a little more grunt over the 2.0 I suppose
Power of your brains we also have 2.0 turbo, 2.5 na and 2.5 turbo. I think manual 2.0 non turbos are the only ones with low range box
Ever had the AT temp light warning appear on this sort of work?
Impressive! Subarus are amazing vehicles... well done!

better advertisement than anything Subaru has ever published.
Thanks, Subaru would be crazy to claim you could safely drive like we do though.
check subaru canada they have great adverts!
Sweet vid.... Subarus kick ass!!!
thanks dude!
This is one of the best looking body styles of the Forester. I want one.
Love how capable these fozzies are! I had an SG model with the low range and i miss it that much im back on the market for another. Great climb
Subaru. Loved my 85 GL as a backwoods trundler. Now I have a 2003 Forester as a woods car, but I miss the dual range of the 85.
I too have a Forester and I miss the dual range of a GL;wish they would have that option. When you really need low range there is no substitute
That was awesome! Such a steep incline, too! Liked and subscribed. My 2022 Forester arrives to my local dealership next week. 🤜🤛
Super dope dude. I wish I could do this with my forester

I had a liberty those r the biggest pieces of turds ever. Anything past an 92 jeep anything is junk even the newer wranglers
Veeery nice Subaru driving 👍👍👍
Love the PBS shirt!
Nice rig.
*YESSS!!* Nicely done!
It would be interesting to try this with one of the new Foresters. With its CVT transmission, I don't think it would make it

I have the same Forester with General Grabbers in 205/75R15 size, but would love to run a larger size. What size Grabber are you running, and how did you alleviate the spring perch interference problem?
They are general grabber 235/75R15 AT2s, and the rears had to be converted to coil-overs using sleeves to avoid interference.
Just finished installing a lift and new shock however (we bent the other pair), so more "R&D" to come

It is a real place in the middle of nowhere. It has one gas station, a post office, and many public roads that are actually creeks or trails...

No, more just to see if we could make it I guess
You can lose the fisheye lens effect.
Can't, video already uploaded :(
I think even with turbo would spin there anyway
Yes but it would spin MOAR
Nice work, but the part where you say "need turbo" ??? What for? You're already spinning all four tires. "Need traction" is what we all need more of.
You are correct. However, a turbo would help to launch those rocks just a little farther. It could, technically, help with momentum, but the text is really just a dumb joke about launching rocky dirt clumps at friends. Glad you enjoyed the video!
