  • Grab an old buffer of craigslist, a set of buffing wheels of Amazon, and breathe new life into old CDs/DVDs and still have a grinder to sharpen your zombie slaying equipment.

I was just a local high volume DVD/CD reselling shop and this is what they had someone doing behind the counter non stop...so it must work well. Thx for the video.

Don't be afraid of a buffing wheel, instead master it. You don't need a piece of wood.

I know this was 9 years ago 🤯where does the time go? Thanks to yours and others videos I made one.
Couple modifications 5:28 I put a thick rubber plug there think it’s 3/4” thick
drilled hole through rubber and countersink bolt head in rubber. Makes it much easier
On the backside of the wood “disc holder” I added a handle that 3 fingers can fit under making it very easy to hold!

Just wondering why you replaced the wing nut with a normal nut. Couldn't you just turn the bolt round and put the wingnut on the other side of the wood?'

Great video man, I did disc repair on a belt grinder before out of necessity it was a lot tougher then this. But cheap and effective too.

thank you sooooooo much for this, I'm a jeweler, so I have everything I need, & I am an avid audiobook fan while I work, so HEY!!!! WOW! I can see good times ahead for some of my CDs which are scratched & have been so discouraging to try to listen to. Have a wonderful holiday season, THIS HAS BEEN MY BEST GIFT !!!! Just wanted to suggest a different polish, try using ZAM, it's a really good polish for plastic.

For CD's the data is below the label, for DVD"s it's in the middle of the disk, and for Blu-Ray it's near the bottom. So this wouldn't work for blu-ray unless you are only taking off less than .1mm of material.

i swear i told them to put a blu-ray into a case again like they did with floppy discs or md-cd discs
      example would be:
      (upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/5/57/Minidisc.jpeg/1024px-Minidisc.jpeg)
      but no1 listened to me
      no1
this long would have avoided this proble
the case might break get replaced end of story

True, that's why the top of the disc is important otherwise there is no reelection back to the laser sensor.

Tomahawks... yeah I usually carry one of those in my pocket Lol. Try adding a soft foam buffing pad, use mild abrasive toothpaste, spraying rubbing alcohol on the disc keeping it wet preventing the toothpaste from drying up, and you can easily get a factory finish on those disc with light pressure at high speeds. No joke, toothpaste with foam pads works and It's cheap.

In England, Brasso is a roll of something like Cotton wool, [unsure of what to call it] been using it for Decades, to remove anything but the deepest scratches on records, or even Albums, even the deepest scratches can be improved on .Whatever is in the material, leaves a residue, but can be mostly removed with surgical spirit, and then liquid soap and water, under a running tap, holding disc vertically, generally use 1 inch unused paint brush for the wash.Been considering trying on cd, or dvd, glad to see you have tried already.

Yeah if it's so deep it can't be buffed out or you hold it in one spot for so long it heats up and warps the disc, there likely wasn't anything that was going to save the disc.

This goes against the physics of laser deflection and would create an uneven surface on the disc making it impossible to read the data. The surface of the disc has to be very, very flat. This is why scratch have such a great impact on whether the disc can be read or not. If you were to buff only the scratched portions of the disc, it would have shallow regions and imbalance on the disc as much as it would be unreadable. I don't recommend this method, you could buff the disc with a buffer wheel on a drill and get better results.
