    Hi! I´ve two Flir, DM284 w/ Thermal Camera and DM93 w/ Bluetooth.
    Are Rugged stuf, and give very confidence, I agree w/ you. I calibrated DM284 in Brazil (under one of INMETRO´s Labs registered, by Elus Instrumentação an amazing Lab in Brazil), and it´s awesome results as same level your competitors.
    I´ve in my bench others like Amprobe AM570, Yokogawa TY720 (with 50.000 counts, and other features useful, as data logging), UNI-T UT61e+, and a Fluke 117 as well, but the Flirs are a really good DMMs.
    I apreciate your comments and advices, is helpul, transparence and bring some spice, in the options avalaible in the market!
    Go ahead, good Job!!

    I have had my DM92 for 3 years now, a good meter, the batteries last quite well if you don't use the flash light to often and it shut down at 7volts battery level. Thanks for the video explaining the AC test method diode funtion, not as on most DMMs, I had to write to Flir for clarification, as you comment the manual does not clearly explain this method and it was new to me.

      Hi Skip, I like this meter. It might go through batteries faster like it seems a lot of the high end meters do, but not too bad. Thanks for the feedback!!

    The Flir looks to be a good meter. The ultimate test for a lot of techs using these meters is how they hold up in the field under harsh conditions. I've dropped my Fluke 87 multiple times from ladders 8'- 10' approx. 3 meters onto concrete floors and still working. I store them in my service truck sometimes -15 degrees F and still work and are reliable. I've used Fluke meters over 40+ years in Industrial and Commercial environments they are rugged. I would consider something else to use on my work bench like a Keithly , Rigol, Siglent if it wasn't exposed to the elements of rain, cold, ice, dropping, etc. Only Fluke for my field service work. Nice video.

      Thank you for your feedback! I get that when you have experience with a product that it can earn your respect. But, IMHO I'll share the following. This Flir comes with a lifetime warranty which only the most expensive Flukes do (which I think is actually more like 10 year warranty), or they come with 3 years - which I'm pretty sure of. The Flir has a much higher IP rating which most Flukes, from what I can tell, have no rating or is very minimal. That's hard particulates and water ingress rating as well as the Flir is drop tested. Much to my surprise, I can't find the drop test on most Flukes. From what I can tell the Flir has at least as good build quality as the most expensive Flukes. And the Flir comes with silicone leads that are very nice. You don't need to pay an extra $45 for the Fluke silicone leads. IMHO, after using Fluke 87s for years (all the variations) they just don't compare to the Flir. The Flir has more capability and has a much better display. Fluke's flagship is showing its age and it is so expensive. It is a shame that the bean counters have taken over.

    • @kahvac
      @kahvac 3 года назад

      @@KissAnalog You make some very good points. The Flukes are showing their age. I own the original Fluke 87 also have the 87v. My first was the Fluke 73 I bought it in the 80's I still have it and works good. I have (2) Fluke 289's I use for bench work. Old habits are hard to break but these meters have served me well in the field with very harsh conditions in New England. I've tried to measure 480volts on the Ohms scale a number of times without damage to the meter. the meters have all dropped from an 8' step ladder several times and frozen solid countless times where the display barely comes on. All the tradespeople I met over the years use Fluke and a few carry "Fieldpiece" I also a fieldpiece with a bunch of accessories but do not take it with me. Currently looking for a bench top unit to replace the 289's maybe a Keithly or Rigol. but probably not a Fluke.

Then the RF shielding, even those little screw markings on the stand & lot of others as well ! @@KissAnalog My RCA WV-519A has the two AA's and a 22.5V battery. It tests at about 25.5V on X10K. I have proven that it will catch bad diodes that a DMM will not. It is not often that a diode will fail like that, but it does happen.

      @@KissAnalog From what I have seen, the 9V battery doesn't mean much since most DMM's don't test at the full voltage on the diode function. My Brymen 869s tests at about 2V on the diode function, and my Fluke 87V tests at about 3V. A cheap VOM with X10K has the added 9V and will test at about 12V depending on the charge of your batteries.
      I firmly believe that most people having the "tough dog" repairs are the same people that believe that VOM's are obsolete, and trust their DMM's more than they should... To those people I say, "Enjoy those tough dog repairs".

    This is not FLIR vs FLUKE, this is an advertisement for a FLIR multimeter. Fluke 289 would measure the capacitor capacity in a few seconds

    • @KissAnalog
      @KissAnalog  4 года назад +5

      Thanks for the feedback. You are right, the Fluke 289 does read capacitance faster, and it even goes up to 100 mF which is impressive. But the Fluke 289 costs over $600 which is twice the price of the FLIR. At less than $300, the FLIR DM92 goes up 40 mF. So, I only used the Fluke 289 to compare to because the more comparably priced FLUKE 179 at about $350 doesn't hold a candle to the FLIR. The FLIR priced more closely to the 179 but performs more closely to the 289.
      I really wish that I did get paid to advertise - but I don't so I do these comparisons to help others make good choices. So many think that FLUKE is the only safe brand and are worth the inflated pricing, but I hope this comparisons will introduce a relatively new comer that is definitely worth a look. I hope it helps make good choices based on performance vs cost and not branding.

    15:44 With the diode test, if you testing LED's, you can see if they work when they light up or not (blinking in this case), but how can you tell if a normal diode or a PNP/NPN transistor is passing current in one direction, and blocking current in the other direction (normal mode), or passing current in both directions (short ) when you get the same readings when swapping the leads, that doesn't make sense or i'm missing something ?

    • @KissAnalog
      @KissAnalog  4 года назад

      Yes I was wondering the same thing - but then I realize if the diode ruction is working - breaking down at what ever diode type that is being tested - then it must be OK and be able to block as well. I can't think of a time when I found a diode in a failed state that could give one reading and not the other - as they fail short most often. I have found bad diodes that actually cracked open but wasn't apparent until desoldering and fell apart. these diodes test open in both polarities and don't show the diode breakdown, so I think this is OK.

If you then got 2 readings, you know that the diode is bad. But how can you tell with the FLIR if your diode is bad, when you got a reading in both directions ?
      It's like measuring a resistor in diodemode.
      Also, when you have a diode where the markings are gone, how can you determine which is the cathode and which is the anode, when you get exact same reading in both directions? I find this a very confusioning way of measuring diodes :-)

      Thanks for this great question! I have been thinking it is time for a follow up, but I’ve been too busy to do it;) I have the DM93 that I want to review and I think I’d go for that one;) I love these meters;). amzn.to/2TneO12

      @@KissAnalog Typically that is my MO...to go for the most feature rich or expensive model in the series or product line. But I've found I rarely, if ever, interface readings to a PC or use Bluetooth on a handheld DMM. I do have several hi-end data logging DMMs if I ever need that function. BT radio tends to be poorly implemented in a lot of devices resulting in poor connection/range, sketchy interface software and draws a lot of power. So in the case of the DM92 & 93 w/six AAA batteries, I'd be concerned of the runtime. Same reason I'm not enthusiastic about the integral flashlight or why I don't want the DM285 thermal imaging DMM. If I really need the thermal imaging function (or a flashlight) I'd use a dedicated thermal imaging tool (or a real LED light) that would perform that function better. Maybe you could compare features/functionality & runtime of the DM92 & DM93?
      I'm looking forward to future reviews of the DM93 and other quality handheld DMMs. Have great one!

      I'll test the BT. I have found some work great and others...don't;)

      @@KissAnalog Well it's been 6 months since I asked you for your "1 year later" opinion. Bought a few handheld DMMs since then and realized I never purchased a Flir DMM. Said screw it and bought the DM93 instead of the DM92 from TEquipment for a good discount (read somewhere the DM92 was being discontinued). Took them almost month to ship, but received it today.
      Got my eye on a Fluke 124B/NA Scopemeter for the field. Would love to see you review the Fluke 120 Series Scopemeter in the new year.

    what's your take between fluke 87v and flir dm93?

    • @KissAnalog
      @KissAnalog  3 года назад +1

      I honestly think that the Fluke 87V is a dinosaur;) I've used it for years and it is just a basic meter. The Flir is a much better meter - especially for the money. I know that Fluke loyalist would be insulted - and believe me - I used to be one of them:)

      @@alatmarine6890 I’ve been searching for a deal, I really don’t want to spend a lot for a meter that in my opinion isn’t with half of what they sale for.

    "FLIR" - is an overrated, expensive marketing ploy, which puts complicated software over practicality, sticking with your FLUKE or other good measuring equipment.

    • @KissAnalog

      Thanks for the feedback! This Flir is lower cost than the Fluke with a better display and more functionality, so in this case I think the Fluke is overrated. The build quality of the Flir is also top notch. I think Fluke is losing ground IMHO;)

      Flir is great for general measurement. if you want any sort of accuracy better stick with Fluke. I calibrate handheld and bench top Dmms everyday and longterm accuracy Fluke dominates. The Snap On argument is valid, just not with DMMs. It all depends on what your using them for. how accurate do you need them to be and accuracy over what period of time. Flir has a place, but so does Fluke.
