Emma (2009) will always have a special place in my heart. Romola Garai and Jonny Lee Miller's chemistry is fantastic. In the beginning episodes, they really captured how these two bicker & openly talk about everything, with no filters. You really get to feel that they've known each other all their lives. The Cook of Castamar. A Spanish period dramatic romance short series based on a book that Netflix turned me to after Bridgerton. I enjoyed it and like Empress it was interesting to see historical world outside of America and England.
IMHO, Outlander is the all-time best period drama tv series. The acting is fabulous and the romance is sublime. No one compares to Jamie Fraser, the King of Men.❤❤❤
@@kristinedunner988 “Gender bending” got me rolling on the floor. 😂😂 Bridgerton doesn’t do that, the only (major) change from the original books is changing skin colors to a handful of characters - which is not that bad a thing.
Victoria was good, I wish it wasn’t cancelled. Reign was great but the ending was make swift but her dying and seeing Francis again was beautiful. Loved Sandion the best.
The actor playing Victoria said she’d return after she’s gotten a bit older. She said the story progressed to where Victoria was getting older, but she still looks so young
I recommend the 2016 series "Doctor Thorne" starring Tom Hollander as the titular doctor. It's set in the 1850's England and has plenty of drama, romance and beautiful costumes.
Aristocrats (BBC mini series 1999) Based on the lives of the Lennox sisters, great granddaughters of King Charles II. The Forsyte Saga (2002-2003), Sense & Sensibility (2008 mini-series), The Mayor of Casterbridge (2003) which stars Polly Walker (who plays Lady Featherington in Bridgerton).
Not a miniseries, but Polly Walker also plays Jane Fairfax in the Gwenyth Paltrow Emma. Not nearly the best adaptation but worth a watch bc of the actors involved. You should watch the 2009 BBC Emma miniseries bc it’s the best version. Second being the Anya Taylor Joy Emma movie.

Sisi (2009) is a two part TV movie while Sisi (2021) is a so far three season series with the fourth currently filming. All three series take vastly different approaches to Elisabeth's early years as empress. Sisi (2021) is for the people who love spicy scenes and constant drama while Sisi (2009) is for the romantics. I don't know if an English translation of Sisi (2009) exists, but Sisi (2021) has been picked up in many countries across Europe but also has an English translation that was definitely availble in Australia and Canada but I also think the US.
Poldark needed to be continued. Outlander is my favorite (minus the SA scenes.) Loved Sanditon but was so upset Theo James left & one of his Divergent series co stars “replaced” him. I also loved Reign & Downton Abbey.
It was really good! I was mad Theo James left and then someone who co-starred with him in the divergent series took his place as leading man. I was so surprised when I finally watched the movies and saw “Will” who had to be killed by the lead “Tris”.
I've seen most of these, and I'm glad to have a few new ones to check out, thank you. I must add The Gilded Age by Downton Abbey's creator, Julian Fellowes. And other adaptations of Jane Austen, particularly the Colin Firth Pride and Prejudice miniseries. And if you can find it, a 1998 BBC series called Berkeley Square set in 1902 London.
Thank you so much for including Artful Dodger, even if as an honorable mention. We happened on to it, and just loved it! So good! Why aren't there more episodes!!?
Besides all of these mentioned, I also love Midnight at Pera Palace on Netflix! It a Turkish series about the beginning of turkey along with a time travel aspect!
I started watching Outlander and then stopped. I may come back to it, if only for the Scottish views that are in S1. As for Buccaneers I was #teamGuy at the beginning, after Nan met each of them and then #teamTheo and by the end I couldn't make up my mind at all. Honestly they were both a perfect match for her
The Young Victoria was better at covering the later years of Princess Victoria's abuse by John Conroy and her own mother! It's written by Julian Fellowes!
Does anyone know the name of the period drama set in India? A British guy went, the Indian servants got storylines, I think there was a baby without parents which was a mystery, an Indian princess came to visit who's father the guy had saved. The evil East India company was featured, there was a plot with some sort of a carriage heist of an ornate clock, there was an English female teacher...SOLVED: Beecham House
I want to blurt out the King and I. There was a widowed English teacher who went to Siam to teach the King's son English. The English teacher was played by Jodi Foster, it was made in the 90's (very late 80's maybe) if I remember correctly. There were ongoing skirmishes with men from the East India Company and the people/King of Siam. At the end, the royal family is sent to a defensive position to be protected from slaughter. One of the betroathed wives to the king was in love with another before given to the king to marry. This wife was one of many wives, along with countless royal children. She ran off, disguised as a monk. When she was found, the king felt obligated to behead them both in a ceremonial public fashion. I remember something about the baby but it was a long time. Now, there isn't much in my description that matches yours, but for whatever reason The King and I came 13:40 to mind, even though you described the setting of India. Even though our descriptions arent matched, I wanted to toss this movie out there just in case! Good luck!

I thought the Buccaneers original miniseries from 1995 was better than this later version. I also am partial to the Poldark series from the 1970s. Flambards was another good one set around the WWI in England. Also The Duchess of Duke Street.
I've seen all in the top 10 except Belgrave season 2 which I didn't know was released but I will get right on it and I've not seen the Buccaneers but I reviews I saw were terrible so perhaps it's why I haven't gotten around to it yet. And in the honorable mentions I never got into Downton Abbey. I just didn't like the 1st episode and never went back.

Okay I have to say it , I saw the old Buccaneers version and it was super depressing and sad. I didn’t like the plot. I thought it weird that The Forsyte Saga and North and South, were not mentioned at all,
Persuasion: both the 1999 and 2022 versions.
fair warning about outlander tho, every main character gets SA'd. I'm not exaggerating. every single one.
Emma isn’t a “Friends to Lovers” romance. It’s a “Cousin to Lovers” romance 😂
they're definitely not cousins, Emma is Knightley's sister-in-law, no blood relation
I thought the Buccaneers original miniseries from 1995 was better than this later version. I also am partial to the Poldark series from the 1970s.
Flambards was another good one set around the WWI in England. Also The Duchess of Duke Street.
I have watched all these 😢
🔪 Why Women Kill (Season 2)
When will someone do Angelique, from the books the 1970's?
I've seen all in the top 10 except Belgrave season 2 which I didn't know was released but I will get right on it and I've not seen the Buccaneers but I reviews I saw were terrible so perhaps it's why I haven't gotten around to it yet. And in the honorable mentions I never got into Downton Abbey. I just didn't like the 1st episode and never went back.
