    The grates I use are originally for a weber genesis model I owned, but they work just fine for the Rec Tec 700 as well.

    Reverse sear is where it’s at! Smoked some bacon wrapped fillets for a good hour (smoke setting) and then reverse seared at 500 degrees on the grill grates fin side up. Delicious!

    After reverse searing on my RT700, will never sear first again. Takes longer reverse searing but the whole cut of meat 🥩 is the same level of done-ness. Plus more smoke flavor. I do use the larger flat side for searing with aluminum grates. The thicker the steak, the more it’s noticeable that reverse searing is better. It’s always more tender and tastier IMHO.

    How did these taste compared to cooking on an egg or a weber kettle? While I love the ease of pellet grills I find it hard to replicate that flavor of cooking over coals.

    • @Searedandsmoked
      @Searedandsmoked  4 года назад +1

      It tastes good of course.... but not as good as a green egg or weber kettle. more convenient than anything, but not complaining about the flavor either.

    How long does it take to get the Rec Tec up to 500 degrees? I’m planning to build an outdoor kitchen and an trying to figure out if I still need a propane grill (heats quickly) or if the Rec Tec is versatile enough to handle all cooks

    • @Searedandsmoked

      definitely plan on a charcoal or gas grill. it takes too long in my opinion to get up to high heat. took 20-30 minutes to get up that hot. felt like forever

      The RT-340 is perfect for hot and fast cooks with grill grates. Comes up to temp a lot quicker than the bull or stampede.

    That's the one thing I don't like on my Traeger I bought 5 years ago I still use it the grill marks are not good I had to elevate to bake bread argue Meatloaf I had to elevate on top of the grill so it wouldn't burn the bottom I've had to improvise I wanted to know what could be improved on the Rec Tec its overall performance thank you for doing this commercial because I'm ready to make a change in the very near future lid that closes is heavier if not made of the material they're showing now on the traeger's mom is that black almost heavy as a cast cast stone cast iron just share all the ins and outs because this is still a big investment we did pay almost $1,000 for the Traeger I did have to reorder the flash pan because it was too thin and I very much like stainless steel more than the material that's on the Traeger

    • @Searedandsmoked
      @Searedandsmoked  3 года назад

      i was checking out the Traeger's in ace hardware today for fun.... nice features, but not great materials. Very light and flimsy in comparison to the Rec Tecs. I think you will be impressed with the build quality. All of them have their quirks, but I do dig the rec tec line up.

    How’s this compare to the Egg on grilling a steak?

    • @Searedandsmoked
      @Searedandsmoked  2 года назад

      The egg is a lot better for flavor. You can sear pretty good on this rec tec if you have a good cast iron or these grill grates, but the flavor and moisture retention on the green egg is better. Basically... hard to go wrong with a quality Kamado

    Why would you do this test AFTER you made your whole DIY grill set up?? I know you can’t lose with a Rec Tec but that’s still a gamble!

    • @Searedandsmoked
      @Searedandsmoked  3 года назад +1

      a risk with the high heat I assume? I definitely did not go too far from the grill during this cook. the cabinet was definitely warm, but it seemed to hold up OK.

    • @miguellucero
      @miguellucero 3 года назад

      Seared and Smoked with Keegan - thank you for the reply. I should’ve clarified. I meant why wouldn’t you test out IF the Rec Tec could do a good sear before setting yourself up. From my research on other videos it doesn’t seem to get beyond 530 or so. A nice sear is around 600+. I haven’t done this myself so I may be speaking out of turn. Looking forward to other videos!

    • @Searedandsmoked
      @Searedandsmoked  3 года назад +1

      Miguel Lucero Yeah, it’s not a supreme searing machine, but i’m ok with it. It does a pretty good job with the flat side of the grates, but it takes a long time to get the temp up. It’s ok though... I got a few good grills for hi temp stuff.

    Im confused. Are the grill grates you can order from rec tec different from what you would order directly from grill grates? Great video.

    • @Searedandsmoked
      @Searedandsmoked  3 года назад

      no, the grates are all the same as far as the design of them. you just have to make sure you are ordering the right length for your grill. there are various sizes on amazon or grillgrate.com or you can order through rec tec. you can order a few if you want a small amount of them, or a bunch if you want the whole surface turned into a searing area.

      I'd suggest calling RecTec as well. I went to their store to pick up my grill and they had them in stock then, though the site said sold out. They were hopping that day, so it may be that they are selling them fast enough they can't update the website.

  • @johnjohnson-uz2gl

    None of those steaks are seared , maybe the plate side but a pan on stove would do better , so basically rec tec is a smoker and that’s about as far as it goes

    • @robhimself79
      @robhimself79 3 года назад

      Seems like the only pellet grill that can actual sear is the camp chef because you can easily slide the heat deflector out of the way when cooking.
