Nolan crushed that ending. Amazing. In the theatres when the movie ended people clapped. I had never heard that before 🦇
Same. Opening day in IMAX and people clapped for like 15 seconds straight. Never seen that back in those days
I'll never forget seeing it in IMAX in Albany Ny. People actually stood up out of their seats to clap and cheer and everybody in the theater was talking to each other. Random people were high-fiving. The only other time I had seen something like that at that point was the ending of Spider-Man 1 and 2, and I didn't really experience it again until Fury Road and Avengers: Endgame. At Endgame people were cheering like RDJ was actually in the audience or something, lol.

@@RB01.10 Really? Why is Avatar so worth the recognition and hype? Yes, that film has amazing cinematography an epic score, but ultimately it comes down to how the director treats his crew. What makes Batman into a superhero even without any powers is his willingness to sacrifice even his persona to do that which needs to be done. He does not care if the people he saves sees him as a hero or a villain - he just makes sure the change is made regardless
Absolutely right.
The will to act is everything. As trained by Ras-Al-Ghul
When you realise Batman could have pinned harvey' s murders on the mob or joker but his moral code does not permit him to falsely implicate someone else for crimes they didn't commit. Wow!! I just realised this and my respect for him has increased even further.

Words aren't good enough to express how much I love Bale's and Nolan take on Batman throughout the trilogy, and specially how devoted he is to his mission of saving Gotham by sacrificing himself in this movie by painting himself as the villain so that the people of Gotham City can feel hope in the system and people who work within it to fight crime and injustice. The fact that Matt Reeves took some inspiration from this movie in regards that in The Batman Bruce realizes that he must let go of his desire for vengeance, that Batman must become a symbol of hope to inspire Gotham and become the hero that his city needs him to be.
"As a man; I'm flesh and blood, i can be ignored i can be destroyed, but as a symbol. As a symbol I can be incorruptible. I can be everlasting"
1000 batman movies may come but this will be the best movie forever..................
The dark knight
I think Reeves visual take on Batman is too simplistic and forced, maybe even convoluted, on the other hand, Nolan did it so very elegantly and symbolically impossible to match. When I want to watch a great movie (not just a superhero one) I go back to the dark knight trilogy, they're just amazing pieces of art, with human emotions and positive teachings for everyone to see.

Love how every shot of batman after he takes all the blame on himself is either from behind or with lots of shadows where you can't see his face anymore indicating that he is no longer the hero. Such is Nolan's Cinematography.
That shot from behind with the cape blowing in the wind is mesmerizing.
the pain in Gordon's face when he has to smash the bat-signal in with the fire axe, *knowing* the true actions of Dent.
I like to believe the only way he was able to muster the strength to do it was to remember the evil committed, what was sacrificed to stop that evil, and to channel that energy into his swings.

There was so much hype and anticipation. And then the movie managed to exceed all the hype and anticipation...
The part where batman says Gotham needs its true hero and at the same time he turns his face to hide the villian side is cinematic greatness at its best.
The Joker can not win.
True and the other side was so beautiful, smiling ❤
Fun fact: The two final scenes of Batman riding the motorcycle are actually cut from the earlier chase in the film. Fantastic editing.
This ending always brings tears to my eyes. The Dark Kinght remains the only film I saw in any cinema where I experienced the audience at the end of the film continuously clapping. Legendary film.
Perhaps the best ending to any movie ever. This is what a true hero does: takes the blame for other people's mistakes and goes on the run, because they can take it.
FREAKING CHILLS every time! This is the part of the movie that escalated The Dark Knight from a really good movie to "Epic" for me. 🍻🍻
This scene, the moment the boy says "why is he running dad" and Gordon answers "because we have to chase him". When you see him fleeing; The 'man' in ' the batman' became more apparent. At the end of the day, he is still a man. He can feel vulnerability, he can be ignored, he can be destroyed.
Powerful ending I love how Batman turned over Harvey Face to show the half that was a hero.
I remember watching the closing credits in the cinema for the first time realising I had just watched an absolute game changer.
"To them you're a freak, like me. They need you right now, but when they don't...they'll cast you out like a leper."
Perfect foreshadowing.
I always wondered if the Joker would have compared himself to Batman if he really knew who he was. It is a little easier being casted out when your other identity is a playboy billionaire.
@@zeaferjones1404I think he was more so comparing himself to the Batman identity and not also to the man behind the mask. In that comparison, he was right.
Best line ever,
"Cuz sometimes truth isnt good enough...
Sometimes people deserve more...
Sometimes people deserve to have their faith rewarded"
It's an interesting moral choice they make. The heroes agree to tell a "noble lie" but nonetheless a lie. They maintain a myth of the noble Harvey that is a lie, but a lie they want everyone to believe for the sake of keeping faith in justice.
@@oliverford5367 I thought about it. I think that the message is that: you can build something on a lie but truth will find its way. Here they needed to reward people faith, otherwise Gotham would have fallen, Harvey needed to be the hero. When he says:
- Sometimes people deserve more
I think he means that in this case telling the truth would have been easy for him, for Gordon even fair to be honest… but it would have destroyed everything.
It's poetry in motion

I'm a big marvel fan. And the MCU has so many heroes that I could watch all day. But what makes The Dark Knight so incredible, is that it studies the superhero mythology very closely. I believe it was robbed at the Oscars for not winning the best picture award. Cause this is a masterpiece.
That is why i love DC more. Because it feels like mythology. Ordinary humans that become extraordinary. Humans becoming and fighting gods. Titans. Can’t feel that with marvel except with thanos.
When I first saw this movie, I was disappointed it was over. I wanted it to go on forever. Its unfair to compare this movie to other superhero/Batman films, because anyone who watched this movie will tell you it transcended every expectation they ever had when it came to cinema. One of the greatest films ever made, and the greatest since the turn of the millennium.
"Because he's the hero Gotham deserves, but not the one it needs right now," what a line
This is why Batman is the greatest superhero. He puts himlsef before others without any hesitation. He does this all without having powers and just with heart.
The greatest scene in cinema history.
"I'm not a hero. Not like Dent." That's Batman. He underestimates his own worth and the inspiration he provides. He believes Superman is that symbol, but he is too
Batman doesn't see himself as a Superman kind of hero. He is seeing himself as a person who is ready to lose everything to do what is best for everyone.
