To do as many songs that are in a musical in a 22 minute TV context and each song is pretty exceptional. It’s a masterpiece.
The patient in the episode was an originator and performer from Avenue Q on Broadway.
I thought I recognized that voice!
I thought she was from avenue q 😮
That was a risky drink during, "Everything Comes Down to Poo."
Ah! My thoughts exactly when I saw him take that sip XD
I found this comment before it happened...then when it happened, I understood and too thought the same thing. 😂
Awww, what about Guy Love?
--- in a really maaaanly waaaaaay! 🎶
Honestly SO sad not to see any reaction to it, it was the main thing I wanted to see (though I understand it doesn't really have anything to do with medicine so it makes sense why he didn't include it but STILL!!)
@@Mercilesstantalus Ditto "For the Last Time, I'm Dominican" for me. I get why it's not particularly relevant, but was really hoping for it anyway.
Yeah kinda annoying he clearly cut it out
It's Guy Love is such an underrated song! Fantastically written and the performance is PURE GOLD😊🎉
Had a (tiny) brain stroke 3 months ago at the age of 28, and this episode, especially What's going to happen, hits so differently... I listened to it like 3 times a day while in the hospital, and it still makes me cry every time
My 14yr daughter has epilepsy, she stops breathing and turns blue when she does them and i just panic histerically, even though i try really hard not too. She never remembers a thing but i feel traumatised and on edge all the time. Fingers crossed theres a medication out there that will work for her! But never knew these things could happen with seizures.
Sorry to hear that, my best friend has it and luckily hasn't had a seizure for a while due to medication, but she used to have drop seizures all the time at school (where you literally fall from standing). I hope your daughter is doing well :)
What I liked about this is that it also advanced the plot like the Buffy Musical.
Some other musical episodes just did a musical and missed the opportunity to sing things that can't be said as efficiently.
And Scrubs even managed to have a FUNNY aneurysm!
@@rebbyberard8150 OMG you're right T_T
Buffy had a musical😮
@@gabrielmarruffo3329 yes and as I said it wasn't just an episode where everyone sang.
They used the fact that you can sing things you can't say to advance several plot lines. You really need to watch the entire season before the musical to get how unique the episode was was among musical episodes.
@@macmcleod1188Gotta give props to Xena Warrior Princess's musical "The Bitter Suite". Musical that advanced the plot that predated Buffy.
Buffy is my favorite show. But Xena was the blueprint for Once More with Feeling.
Rob Tapert basically was like, "crap, we wrote ourselves into a corner with too much drama...I guess we have to do a musical"
Him being married to Lucy Lawless probably contributed. She has an incredible voice.
ruclips.net/video/KZsU5BnyhBk/видео.htmlsi=IbnFgALSoxjDJidn
All these years later and I still have the Poo Song and Guy love memorized.
The fact that these songs were bangers and i remember all of them
You're gonna end up with the entire episode on your playlist. There isn't a bad sond among them and it's the only musical episode of any sitcom i actually like.
6:24 - *“I think, the only thing I have to feed back to them is, Don't spin someone who's having a partial seizure.”*
Ah, but they likely _weren't_ spinning her around, any more than they were really singing and dancing - That may just have been her mind's interpretation of feeling a dizzy spell, as she was being carted to the entrance. 😉
18:17 - _♬Diverticulitis and a Barium enema.♬_
Just in case, you missed it during editing: there's one more pairing of… "best friends" that you didn't comment on. 😁
Finally! Thought you were never going to react to scrubs again. Can't wait to watch this tonight 😁🤩🥰
Scrubs is amazing with that Friends Forever Song. Joy and happiness and friendship love...end with the reality of how scary your life can be when you are a patient in a hospital.
I rolled into the OR one day while ym surgeon team were laughing and joking like a regular day at work. I was downright terrified. A nurse stopped, switched on their supportive self, and it was like magic, I was suddenly comforted and okay. Yep. This is the hospital.
Growing old is one of those things you just take for granted and it's like jumping into a cold pool to confront the fact that it sometimes isn't the path we're on. My son passed away recently at the age of 32. I always imagined a life growing old along with him and coming to terms with actuality is hard.
Thanks for posting another Scrubs video reaction. I have to say I probably look forward to them as much as just about anything on RUclips. Scrubs has always been a favorite of mine (and my son, too) and watching these is a lot like getting to share the good parts with a friend.
I’m sorry for your loss 😔🙏🏻
11:14 Spot on observation, noting that it sounds like Les Miserable, considering how this particular number ends. FF: the Patient was the Original Kate Monster from Avenue Q. Also a lot of pieces are call backs from other musicals (I think "your going to be okay" was a call out to "Will I" from Rent)
I think the Episodes "My No Good Reason" (Season 6 episode 14) and it's following episode "My long goodbye" (S6 EP15) are two of the most powerful episodes of the entire show.
I just wanted to let you know I absolutely love your channel. I love how you talk about difficult things with such compassion. You really helped me talk with my family about my aging grandmother and how we should handle her final moments.
Your videos are a comfort and safe space for me. Plus I love my Aussie creators lol 😊
i lost my partner at 27, seeing you emotionally rocked makes me appreciate the people who tried to help who still most likely think about her to this day, thanks man
Love your scrubs reactions, thank you for doing another.
Great reaction as always.
You should do My Full Moon next from Scrubs, in the conversation between Elliot and Turk it raises some important questions for doctors themselves
This made my day. I missed your Scrubs reactions, and what an episode to come to.
Thanks for doing this. Keep being awesome!
Bless you Doc, it's genuinely nice to see you still take so much of this to heart I can only imagine as a Doctor everyone's got their own means for making it through each day and this show always did that for me. I'd legitimately love to see how you'd react those episodes that can really hit home. If I were to recommend any among any they would be...
My Brother, My Keeper
My Butterfly
My Last Words
My Fifteen Seconds
For what it's worth while I think there are a lot of episodes that anyone can relate to, I think these ones in particular are the ones that anyone working in the Medical or Surgical field can really feel.
I have never seen Radiology done right in a medical tv-show 😂😂
Doctor, I discovered this channel when looking for reactions to scrubs a few days ago and was legit so sad thinking u dropped them! And all of a sudden you're back! Really glad
It's so interesting rewatching this episode after I have become a bit interested in musicals (which I wasn't the first couple of times), cause now I can more or less idenify which musicals the songs are inspired by.
It's very true that you grow more aware of the fragility of life as you grow older. I think that applies weather you're a medical professional or not, but some things can absolutely hurry up that process, like seeing young patients go through things they in all fairness shouldn't, going through a medical trauma yourself, watching somebody you know go though life with an incurable disease or loosing someone you love. Life is fragile, so try to savor every ounce of happiness it brings you.
As someone who was diagnosed with petit mal epilepsy at the age of 13 i have had plenty of eegs. That was a long time ago but just hearing you talk about them brought back memories.
I like the channel. Scrubs is my relax show from hard days and to see your reactions - adds a new dimension. I suffer from pretty severe Trigeminal Neuralgia pain - and distractions are the key to looking beyond the pain and finding meaning in even the worst cards being dealt.
aww you skipped some songs! I would have loved to see the full reaction even if its not to the medical related parts :) love your channel, can't wait to see more!
Hey bud, this is such a great reaction to a great episode and props for the Grease call-out.
Most of the cast and crew had some musical theatre experience at one point or another in their careers and so this was very much a "fun episode" that they wanted to do, and eventually the network agreed. You can tell they were really having a ton of fun making this.
except Sarah Chalke who apparently sings very poorly lol
Thank you so much for your videos!! I’m currently recovering from a personal low point that made me realize how precious life really is. Thank you so much for all that you and everyone in your profession does for the rest of us. I recently had 3 different visits to the ER until we found out what was going on.. and I cannot express how much it helped to just know that people cared for me and that they were going to do their best to help me, even though we had never met. You have made it literally your life’s work to fix people and get us back on our feet.
Thank you so much for your positive attitude and sharing the joy (and struggles) with us. Thank you for helping in my healing process.
❤
My mom had a hemorrhagic stroke at the beginning of September. Luckily she's doing better and recovering but I definitely felt when you said sometimes it's out of your control. Weak blood vessel walls isn't something you can just work on strengthening, at least as far as I know. Anyway thanks for the reaction 👍🏼 I always enjoy these, take care brotha
Got really excited for this video when I saw the notification after work, knew I had to watch it immediately. Such a fun episode. Love watching you, Dr Syl! All the best.
All I can say is, if my life turned into a musical every time I've had a seizure, it would make having epilepsy totally worth it 😀
If you are into psychology, check out shows like "the Good Place"
It was great to see you grinning practically the whole episode, and bobbing your head to the music. Excellent video.
I’m so glad you’re doing these again!
I think my favorite thing about this episode and why it's my favorite episode of the show is how each song is in a different musical style and i love that
I've been in an MRI once. I know the doctors have had to deal with so many patients who freak out and i just kept asking them to stop trying to calm me. It didn't bother me at all.
I had to get an MRI done two months ago, but I was so exhausted from all the other tests and scans and such in those 12-ish hours I straight-up _fell asleep_ inside the machine about a minute in and didn't wake up until it was done (the cot thing under me jittering back to life was what woke me up). The doc cracked up because he'd heard of it happening before but it was the first time he'd actually seen it for himself. XD
I got a bit emotional at the end too. Scrubs definitely does that to me too.
The way she hums "welcome to sacred heart" then sighs absolutely breaks my heart
i'm normally claustrophobic, but i find MRIs very soothing. even the noise is basically white noise. loud for sure. then you have PET scans where they tell you it will feel like you are peeing yourself and not to move, but then it really does and it is hilarious so they have to start over. this is one of those rare episodes where scrubs doesn't go lightly but really hits you at the end, even when singing.
I feel the exact same way about MRI's and PET scans! I almost fell asleep once lol
It's interesting, the faecal calprotectin test is one that we seem to order often in a GP surgery 🤔 I wonder why we do, but you don't so much in a hospital.
I never liked musicals, but because you reacted I enjoyed. You're such a nice and caring soul. Getting emotional is contagious. My eyes always water up when you do. Never apologize for showing us your natural feelings. We love you. Now that I'm in my feels let me watch something else and head to bed, lol. Here in the US and work at 9. Take care of yourself. Sorry for rambling.
Good to have you back! Great reaction as always. Would love to see one to Season 5 Episode 4 "My Jiggly Ball" :)
When you mentioned how you give patients a Midazolam (a benzodiazepine I presume?) before an MRI I felt that because I've needed Ativan for a couple of MRIs. Not due to the claustrophobia, mind you, but due to the fact that I'm hypersensitive to the loud noises and squirmed like a creepy crawly the first time I had an MRI, I was so uncomfortable. The funny thing is benzos make you forget pretty much everything and turn you into a complete doped-out idiot for an hour or two. Plus if you take them for anxiety at night/insomnia (which I do), there's an almost guarantee you will feel tired and groggy in the morning.
You should do “I Need a Break” (season 4 episode 12) of Crazy Ex Girlfriend
What it’s like to get a brain MRI;
It’s like being a worm inside a tree and a giant woodpecker is trying to get to you. It’s so loud.
Don't know if you see this, came to it a bit late. I think this is the first video of yours I've watched; I just re-watched this episode and was looking for a doctor reacts for it. I've had a really great psychiatrist for the last year or so that's really helped me get to a good place with my mental health, though the jury's still out whether the latest meds will continue working (one of those things where it seems to be one thing but when treatment isn't working right minor or more hidden symptoms that point to something else might be the key). Anyway, I've really come to appreciate how much difference a good mental health team can make after struggling for a long time for financial reasons, mediocre therapist reasons, that thing where bad mental health makes it harder to seek help, and, in the beginning, not knowing what was wrong just that something was.
My point is, from your demeanor here and the things you pick out to focus on and care about I think you would make a great psychiatrist. Or really a doctor in any specialty you end up in (? not sure if a junior Dr already has a specialty) or a GP if that's where you're going. I'll be subscribing and sticking around for a bit. Good luck with everything.
Thank you what a lovely comment! Heading for psychiatry training wooo! Will do a 2022 reflective update video :)
I've had brain mri and eegs (I have non-epileptic seizures and being investigated for epilepsy too), and the mri was actually alright. The head brace has a little mirror in it so I could see out of it and they had earbuds playing the radio; I was told because I'm very petite it wouldn't be so stuffy. The main worry was thinking I had metal in my body even though I know I do, and checking I had removed my daith piercings 10 times beforehand
Curious to see if the poo song will get more relevant with time, the more we learn about how closely related our digestion system seems to be with a lot of neurological processes
Roughly 5 years ago, I was diagnosed with left temporal lobe epilepsy. In fact, a few minutes before I watched this video, I had a focal seizure. Things get WEIRD. An overwhelming sense of deja vu, to the point of nearly panicking. Thoughts and other stimuli (such as the noises/voices around me) will loop in my mind like a skipping record. The right side of my body tingles like mad and, though I remain aware, I can hardly move or react without someone having to basically get right up in my face to get my attention. Its very strange, and it's something that I wouldn't wish upon my worst enemy.
The poo song has aged really well considering all the research into gut bacteria on health.
Augmentin makes me horribly terribly sick.
As someone who has epilepsy you explained it really well would definitely show people for an explanation
I love Scrubs
This is great reaction

I got stuck in an mri once.
It was an mri of my upper arm and I was loaded in in a very uncomfortable position…head first, face down and with my arm outstretched above my head.
Needless to say, within a couple of minutes I was in a lot of pain and so I called out to the tech or doctor to get me out and no one responded. I don’t know how long I spent shouting at them and then trying to move about so much that it might set off an alarm or produce something notable at the other end - but it must’ve been at least 5 minutes. Eventually someone came in and got me out but I was so bloody angry. It actually felt like I was being tortured.
I need propofol for MRI's. Funny story: When I had rhabdo they needed an MRI image and the only MRI machine they could get me in was london zoo...so that was fun.
1. no one wears makeup in a hospital? is that an Australia thing? xD
2. the patient is the original Kate Monster from Avenue Q, I love her voice so much and when she says "oh!" when Cox sits down to give the bad news is so Kate, it's hard to keep them separated.
Thank you for another great reaction.
I love this video
One of my favorite Scrubs episodes
Whenever my sister is in a hospital (which happens with some frequency), even if she's in agony and hurling her guts out, she always does her hair and puts on makeup.
Sometimes having some normality at the worse of times helps.
Lol they're in the US. They're not driving the ambulance.
one of the best eps of scrubs... although im a bit disappointed the masterpiece "Guy Love" isn't included here. 🤣
whereee have uu beeen
You have the MRI sound just right :D
I think I've done both CR and MRI scans. I only remember that for one of them, I was warned about the noise, but I didn't mind the noise of the machine, what bothered me was that whenever they spoke to me (through the headphones) there was a sharp, loud "static" (probably when they "opened the channel"), and it made me jump every time (!) :p
Wait we no longer doing emojis at the end?
Dang I really wish you didn’t skip over Guy Love
The songs in this episode were written by the same people who wrote the songs for Frozen
I'd love to see Turk sing Let it go :D
As deanvance4167 mentioned, since Scrubs is an American show, JD was actually getting out of the passenger's side of the ambulance.
A friend of mine died of a sudden aneurysm at 28. Her husband found her on the floor of their house and nothing could be done. "Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what any day may bring forth."
I Had to give so many stool Samples when I was in the Army. Especially after a deployment.
Amazing episode. I don't have inside knowledge, but episodes like this are incredibly costly and time consuming. Which is probably why (despite being filmed 4 or so episodes later) the next episode is a clips episode, which are cheap and easy to produce (and the lowest rated episode on IMDB by FAR). Lots of TV shows do something like this. You balance the expensive episodes with cheap episodes. Remember the Breaking Bad episode where Walter chases a fly around the lab for 45 minutes?
This is just what I needed to start my morning! I missed these!
You might ne interested to know that each song was actually inspired after certain musicals, like the song that sounds very Les Mis. The work that went into this episode was insane. I believe it won an Emmy?
I've definitely watched My Musical way too much. You didn't react to Carla's song, yet that's the one that's stuck in my head right now. 😂
You can't just as call 999. Because everyone might think someone else is. You need to say hay you in blue call 999.
If you like this episode, you should look for Avenue Q. The group that made that musical had a massive role in this episode.
As a narcoleptic, MRIs = nap time
You skipped "guy love"? That's the best part of the entire episode.
I had an MRI a couple of months ago and they gave me headphones... I almost had struggles to not fall asleep ^^
I had an MRI when I was 10ish as a study participant at NIH years ago. It was a study for bipolar kids and the nurse was amazing and calm which made it bearable. Later on they couldn’t do another because I shot up to 6’5” and my shoulders were too wide. I was okay with it 😂.
They were not driving the ambulance the driver is sitting in the driver seat JD was in the passenger seat and Elliot in the middle seat. They were only given a ride back to the hospital with the ambulance.
I still love watching this episode of Scrubs 🤩 Bobby Lopez, the guy who wrote the songs for this episode, has done the music for several Broadway musicals like Avenue Q and The Book of Mormon. The woman with the brain aneurysm, Stephanie D'Abruzzo, actually played Kate Monster in the original Broadway production of Avenue Q. Mr. Lopez is an absolute legend.
As someone who has had a brain mri. I nearly fell asleep XD however I started to get pain in my neck and accidently moved during my spinal imaging
How do you skip Guy Love? Lol
I love how you react to the whole episode. I get a little annoying when people leave out like 75% of the context.
I never got anything for my MRI when I was a teenager (wish I did), worst 45 minutes of my life, I thought I was going to die by the end of it as I started having a panic attack with about 15 to go. By the time they pulled me out of it the whole sheet I was laying on was soaked in sweat.
I've had 3 general seizures in 1 day all lasting over 3 minutes. We finally found meds that work. But I still don't know when they are going to happen.
how would a coil through the groin help an aneurism in the brain? They don't go all the way from down there to brain, do they? If I had something go all the way through me yeah, no wonder there's complications! Can't they just do blood thinners or something and I dono, drain out the area?
What i been liking about this man watching the scrubs shows is that he keeps changing his facial hair and normal hair and its fun to watch what look he's gonna rock but I enjoy seeing him watch these as I did when they came out! Scrubs is better then greys anatomy #fightme
"Musicals always have a happy ending"
JD hasn't watched many of them apparently...
I'd love to see a reaction to season 6 episode 14 "My No Good Reason"
I don't think you're right about 30 minutes for a brain MRI (at least for me). Mine is 45 minutes and I get them every year. I had to get them every 3 months at first at first. It's rough, but I focus on the sounds that the MRI is making. One sounds like a helicopter flying over your head, and another sounds like soldiers marching over a bridge.
My dad had a stroke from a brain aneurysm and lost his speech and the use of his right side. He was a drummer. The only phase he was ever able to say was 'I use to' and finished with dadadada. He's been gone now for years now and not to long ago I realized dadadada is how drummers talk when describing what their playing. Which now I kick myself not knowing that as a drummer myself. Just curious if you think this is possibility or am I'm I just reaching??
Also just a funny for you... when I was 21 I was diagnosed with AML and luckily my little sister was a perfect match. I love saying I'm 21 years older and 1 year younger then my son. I just turn 25 (BMT years) a few months ago.
Im a training speech pathologist. From what you said it sounds like he had a global aphasia. His phrase was like a telegraphic/echolia (I can't remember the term) where someone repeats sounds words or phrases they have heard with no communicative intent. Unless he used AAC and was able to communicate through that. His speech was likely just a phrase he knew he could say but didn't know what it meant anymore.
My grandmother went through many strokes with dementia. She would forget and repeat phrases to a point you couldn't talk with her anymore because she wasn't coherent anymore.
I know this doesn't help but I hope it does take away the blame you may feel that you might have misunderstood him when he tried to speak.
Umm… Why is there an Engagement Ring video in the Scrubs Reactions playlist? 😂
Hahahaha I must have accidentally saved it to this playlist whilst looking up engagement ring stuff hahaha sorry
Finally
22:56 My grandma had to stay in the hospital a week and she put on make up several times a day every day😂
I think you kinda missed a point, when they were telling the patient that she was going to be okay. Have you ever heard someone say “think happy thoughts before going to bed” I think that a person’s emotional state going into such a surgery can be the difference between life and death. The body wants to survive if the consciousness knows there is a good chance of survival
Fatherly love…my father is a malignant narcissist who abused me for half my life.
My father figure was my grandfather, and he died on my birthday.
I genuinely detest Father’s Day.
I wonder if Dr. Syl who by every indication is an excellent and compassionate doctor, see himself as neurotypycal?
You mean a stool sample
