    I remember when I first saw the new 300zx in the winter of 1989. Id say January or February of 89. The Nissan dealer had just gotten a delivery and they were still sitting on the truck. It was by far the best looking car up to that point in history.

    Great job! Glad you actually improved this Z32 and appreciate it’s heritage. Tavarish is also doing a 300zx project, but he doesn’t seem to care about the car’s heritage at all.

    Your work is just the way I would like my car work to go. (Not that's it's ever easy or as expected LOL) But you have everything set up before hand and try to be as prepared as possible before going in. It shows in the work and video too. Thanks for the great content I hope there's going to be more in the near future.

    If you still monitor this video, would you please tell me if that 98 transmission failed? Mine did, with, with maybe 1250 miles on it. It's a very long story, my Z, but in short, it's a 95TT I bought in 96. Started a full restoration almost 5 years ago and was just now starting to think it was FINALLY finished that my transmission failed. As a "precautionary" step, about three years ago I bought a new 98 5 speed transmission, despite my old one being fine. Between then and now I've had to pull and rebuild the engine an additional two times. First time for a blown Tomei head gasket, after about 400 miles, (don't use those, only oem with copper spray) and the second time for being stupid and NOT blocking off the oil tree filter bypass check valves after shimming the pressure regulators in the tree to increase the oil pressure. That took out all my bearings after about 500 miles. And now, with only 350 additional miles, for a total around 1250 miles, the transmision started whining, badly. I never knew about this but apparently in "fixing" the sincros, which I never had a problem with, they F'd up something even worse. Would you by chance know anyone, or place that actually knows how to fixes these transmissions? This is my Z if you'd like to see it. ruclips.net/video/MjkYMPhdkcA/видео.html

    Amazingly informative video! I’m curious to know if you’re running BOV’s or just open recirculation valves? If it’s the former, do you find that there are any drivability issues with them at all?
    Great content!

    • @PracticalEnthusiast
      @PracticalEnthusiast  3 года назад +1

      Thanks Steve. They're BOVs (HKS SSQV) and they were on the car when I bought it, so I can't comment on whether they affect drivability much compared to recirc valves. I haven't noticed any issues arising from them. I just loved the way they sounded so I kept them in place!

    • @39PSIOnTheDaily
      @39PSIOnTheDaily 3 года назад

      @@PracticalEnthusiast Thank you! Are they where the recirculation valves are or are they where the intake pipes are? I have some very old school HKS Super BOV’s (early 90’s JDM only) that I’ve been dying to install, but my tuner says that doing so will cause me to have to rest my foot on the throttle slightly at idle to avoid stalling. I’m tempted to try installing them to see what they’re like and then returning back to stock if I dislike them, but only if they’re installed in the area where you have them, as they seem to work well for your setup!

    I have a 93 NA 2+2, the transmission thankfully doesn’t grind and shifts pretty good with redline in it. My question is...how is 1st gear coming to a stop? Like...say you wanna roll through a stop sign but at a few mph, too slow for 2nd. Mine gives me resistance until I almost stop, it would not engage while rolling (unless I double clutch or really force it in).
    Just wondering if the brand new transmission is like that too...I feel it's a characteristic of the Z32 5spd.

    So, I have to ask. Where did you get the finesse to do this kind of interior disassembly? Most people who do it hack the hell out if it, and you do not. I have to assume this is something learned?

    • @PracticalEnthusiast
      @PracticalEnthusiast  4 года назад +1

      The factory service manual is hugely helpful. I get one for every car I own. It usually tells you where all the hidden screws and clips are, which prevents potential hacking.

    Where did you source a 98 spec transmission. Also where do you get a new shift knob with a 6 speed pattern. Are the gear ratios tighter for better acceleration?

    • @PracticalEnthusiast
      @PracticalEnthusiast  2 года назад

      I got the transmission from Z1 Motorsports. That's a 5 speed shift knob. The 98+spec transmission is still a 5 speed with the same gear ratios as before.
