    I noticed from the comments not everyone listened to you. From what you said 3 cups of rice needs 3.5 cups of water. From your instruction 4 cups of rice would then need 4.5 cups of water. I think I understand it. It sounded clear to me. Thanks for the information.

    Great video thanks. 1. Wash the rice twice before cooking 2. 1.5 cups of water for 1 cup of rice so you need 4.5 cups of water because I see the rice is under cooked because of no water. 3. To know if the rice is cooked well, it should not look crispy and take few and press it with your fingers and it should crush softly. Thanks again ! I opened to see how to use the cooker 😅

    I usually rinse my rice. I also use a rice cooker. But the way I make mine is I measure 4 cup rice rinse it clean put it in the pot. I measure my 4 cups water boil it separately then add it into the rice cooker. I add salt and light olive oil. Set it to cook. My rice cooker has a glass lid. I watch till water is absorbed and I give it quick good stir and put the lid back and finish cooking. Mine come out perfectly cooked

  • @DanaPatriciaMary1
    @DanaPatriciaMary1 8 лет назад +1

    I would definitely want to rinse the rice before cooking it. Before it gets packed, it lies in storehouses in huge piles and the rice at the very bottom is on the concrete floor full of dust. Also it is good to pre-wash the rice as the water helps cleanse it from some starch. And I would put in a little bit of salt too. But thats me. Someone else may prefer it in a different way and I respect it.

    • @MyTinyKitchen
      @MyTinyKitchen  10 лет назад

      Kuntry, I don't know what the times are, as easy cooker is a little different, but it should be automatic. The cooker will tell you when it's done. You can try timing it from when you turn it on to when it beeps at you, so you know the length of time. And YES, for 4 cups of rice, you want 4-1/2 cups of water!

    I believe you need to wash the rice after soaking it for 10-15 mins. Then use a ratio of per cup rice to 1.5 cup water. As for rice cooker, I bought so many before and found Tefal Rice Cooker Steam IH 1.8L Plus GWP Tefal Duo Pan to be the best. Cleans easily, doesn’t leave smell and you do not get crust at the bottom of the pot like other rice cooker does. This one come off clean all the time.

    • @MyTinyKitchen
      @MyTinyKitchen  8 лет назад

      +Morgana2390 Unfortunately, the lid doesn't come off. Rinse it with a soapy rag right after you finish cooking the rice. That way everything is moist and cleans better. If you wait until it dries, its harder to clean off.

    What if you were making white rice with a measuring cup (not the one that comes with the rice cooker)? I do 1 1/2 cups water for each cup of rice an domes out a bit soggy. What would you suggest?

    • @MyTinyKitchen
      @MyTinyKitchen  10 лет назад

      If you're doing a regular cup, you can still make it work. However, the key is do NOT put in 1-1/2 cups of water for each cup of rice. Check the rice-water ratio in the comments below. If you put in 2 cups of rice, you put in 2-1/2 cups of water. If you put in 3 cups of rice, you are putting in 3-1/2 cups of water. However much rice you are putting in, you put in the SAME amount of water, plus 1/2 cup. It's not a true ratio, and this is where people get confused.

    I own the same exact model rice cooker but every time my roommate or I use it to make rice it comes out bad. The top layer/center of the rice is mushy/watery and the sides and bottom are crusty, solid, and hard. I've tried brown rice and white rice with different measurements of both water and rice. I have also tried rinsing the rice and different brands of rice. The only one time it finished cooking right was when I checked the rice while it was cooking and stirred more water in it every ten minutes(I almost burned myself doing this). Only for it to come out bad a few hours after leaving it alone when it finished cooking.

    Nice simple video-thkx! (P.S. : check your math, 1c rice/1.5c water... 3c rice x 1.5 water = 4.5c water). We make rice every day on the stove top: rice + water 1 knuckle above the rice. I like how the rice cooker would free up my pot for other cooking tasks instead of taking the rice out, cleaning the pot, putting it back in to reheat.
    what brand cooker are you using????

    wait, so if it's 1 cup then you will use 1.5?
    if that's the case the, for three cups it should be 4.5 not 3.5
    1.5*3

    Hi, thanks for posting the video.
    I bought my one just few days ago but after something like 10 mins, it starts to make a weird noise and from the hole where is supposed to get out the vapor it comes with water , I washed the rice 10 times because I thought it might have been this but still it happens. Any tips about how to avoid this?

    Does the rice stick to the bowl on the bottom if you don't put any oil?

    • @MyTinyKitchen
      @MyTinyKitchen  8 лет назад

      It's a little sticky, as plain rice tends to be sticky. You can certainly put some oil in it to make it a little easier to use.

      JourneyToSelf-Sufficiency I like to add a tablespoon of coconut oil. When I'm feeling really crazy, I use 1/2 coconut milk for liquid and some salted precooked black beans :)!

    I'm curious: What kind of rice cooker do you use, and how much did it cost? When it comes to these appliances, do more expensive models have any particular edge over the more affordable ones?

    i just go with 1:1 water and rice, easier to remember and still turns out great
    rice cookers are absolutely incredible. i sold my microwave. it's actually easier and cheaper to throw fresh ingredients in a rice cooker than nuking a tv dinner

      I don't know what it's made of, it seems to be a combination of metal on the outside and Teflon on the inside.

    Can you cook another cereals like quinoa or kuskus?? Or is just for rice?

    • @MyTinyKitchen
      @MyTinyKitchen  11 лет назад

      I've only tried rice in it so far, but you could certainly try other grains and see what happens. Just try a small batch, you may want to put a lil more water in the pot just in case, because I'm not sure how much water quinoa or couscous requires.

    How big s your rice cooker? How many cups of cooked rice it can cook?

  • @MyTinyKitchen
    @MyTinyKitchen  12 лет назад +3

    According to the chart that came with my rice cooker, for 3 cups of rice, you need 3.5 cups of water. Every batch of rice that I have made using this ratio has come out perfectly cooked.
