    Watching from the UK, FSD US youtube videos always seem to take place in (at least to UK eyes) inear empty roads. Waching those videos I wondered if FSD would operate on our traffic clogged roads. Now having seen your NY FSD videos I'm now confident FSD will function on our much busier, clogged roads. Thank you for uploading. Great stuff.

I was stressed out just watching it, so I can imagine exactly how you felt as your car squeezed and manoeuvred through those crazy streets with pedestrians jumping out left right and centre. And what an amazingly impressive performance by FSD. Anyone who doubts FSD will be unsupervised in the near future has their head in the sand. Thank you again for putting yourself and your car through this.

    This is exactly what I said FSD would need to master to be taken seriously when I started testing back in 2019. New York's streets are some of the most challenging because navigating them often requires adapting to the rules just to make any progress, all while dealing with extremely tight spaces. When it stayed in the bus lane, weaved through double-parked cars on both sides, and made that left turn just as the line of cars was broken by their light turning red-that moment right there is exactly what I envisioned as the breakthrough needed to start convincing most people.

    Wow wow wow! Full Self Driving has indeed arrived! Initially I thought what’s great about driving in a well organised grid like manhattan, but didn’t think about the complexity of driving with people milling about, insane levels of double parking and chaos in the relatively narrower parts. The FSD did beautifully well. Thank you for an amazing video.

    • @DavidSaintloth
      @DavidSaintloth Месяц назад +2

      FYI, the planned grid only exists north of Houston Street. South of that is pure chaos as many of those roads were predated by Indian trails from before the Dutch first settled the island in the 1600's.
      I can attest to having driven on those roads the chaos never ends, I'm stunned that FSD figured out every single scenario thrown its way.

    Insane test! Thank you!My real world use case:
    Did a 400-mile round trip from Vancouver WA to Edmonds WA for a Christmas Eve family get-together on v13.2.2. Only 1 disengagement, and that was just before getting home, turning into my neighborhood! It is so amazing with city lane merges and roundabouts, hundreds of miles of I5 including 80mph driving and stop and go driving (in Seattle), then neighborhood driving and errands around Edmonds.
    The disengagement was because the turn into my neighborhood is from a suicide lane where you can turn in both directions. This instead of a dedicated turn lane, and it, for some reason, won't get into the suicide lane to make the turn.
    Silly error by FSD.
    Also rained on the drive home heavily 3 times, and fsd never gave up. It reduced its top available speed during the heavy rains and moved over to the slowest lane, but was able to at least stay at the speed limit. Sped back up again as the rain eased off to full hurry mode speed and performance!

      @ElectrifiedJourneys Thanks. Will be recording and posting my drives soon. Just waiting for gear to arrive and set it up. Where I live here in the Southwest Washington area I have some super challenging commutes that push FSD to its limits naturally. I don't even need to go out and create some sort of special challenge course. My actual commutes are enough to show both the strength of fsd and things that they need to improve on, and there are multiple routes that are crazy, plus all the bridge traffic too.

    While not yet fully hands-free or stress-free, the improvements from earlier versions are evident, generating optimism among both longtime testers and new onlookers. The overall impression is that FSD is nearing a point where it can handle extremely dense urban environments with minimal intervention-an achievement once thought “impossible” for AI-driven cars in such complex traffic.

    Battery garage is a great stress test for FSD parking, you should keep testing new versions here. If it can handle that, it can handle any garage. They have an automatic plate reader to get in and out, so it could probably enter and exit on its own eventually. That would be a godsend if you live/work in FiDi since it’s the only public garage around.
    Also, that ramp of doom stresses me out every time I drive up or down it in my Model X

      Another interesting test scenario nearby is navigating to Rector St while going southbound on West St. Probably one of the most insane sections of manhattan during rush hour. FSD version 12.5 (HW3) always makes a mistake here and doesn’t merge right fast enough to avoid being forced to take either the FDR exit or the tunnel exit - very bad.
      FSD has also had issues in tunnels like the Battery tunnel. The tight lanes and vertical lane dividers spook the car into going super slow. On past versions, it has even tried to merge into oncoming traffic by driving over the dividers. Tunnels also mess up the GPS causing FSD to get lost.

    FSD made so many human-like decisions it was uncanny. It's hard to believe Waymo claims to be ahead of Tesla in self driving.

    New York traffic is sooo sooo perfect for testing FSD. Thank you for showing us all this. I thank you as a TSLA investor!
    This is just such a stressful area. Cant wait for FSD to master autonomy so humans can just sleep through all these stressful areas in the world.
    By the way, is there anyway to smoothen out the camera vibrations?
    My eye just cant seems to get used to them, makes me alittle car sick.
    Amazing effort and work! I know the hours of work that goes into editing the video. Appreciate it.

    Great test by the way and thank you for sharing it was amazing to see.
    Video on busy challenging streets like these will help Tesla selling many more cars.

    Amazing drive. I think this is the top difficulty level for driving in the big city. Now, we need to throw it in Vietnam or India to see how it deals with a maze of motorbikes around.

      @aanshsinghania7780 Месяц назад

      Viewer from India. India is the ultimate test but it will have to unlearn a lot of things like following lanes , waiting for pedestrians not blocking intersections. These things don't apply here
