Greetings from a Canadian Volvo driver who has been replacing the poor North American sealed beam units since 1965. The opposite wiring must be a Viking gremlin left over from 1967 when Sweden switched from driving on the left to driving on the right. Glad you got rid of the sealed beams, never understood why you traded.
Wow! New old stock Koito headlights 😍 I have sealed beams Koito headlights on my 83 Sprinter Carib and they are definitely the brightest headlights I've ever had for my old cars. I wish I could find a 745 wagon but they're basically extinct around here.
those lights are absolutely beautiful and fit that volvo really well and that volvo is a really beautiful color i'm waiting for your new video of that car. Never sell that monitor though it's starting to annoy you.👍🏁🏆
Thanks for another great video, Sledge! I've been keeping my Sleipnir (244) off the road until the rain washes the salt away haha I felt better about it when you noted the salt at the end of your video being the reason not to take Elsa out for a drive on the video. Looking good!!! See you in the next one! 🇸🇪🤘🏻🇸🇪
Did the US head lamp conversion on my 240 and found out "seald beam" doesnt mean sealed the same way you did :D Luckly planned to replace the original ones anyway. Love your videos
I would have connected the spades directly to the bulbs, checked that everything worked correctly then refit them with the blocks. I thought sealed beam units were effectively like big bulbs so that if any air got in the filaments would blow?
The backs on those lamps are huge compared to what I am used to over here, I think you can still get hella vision plus lamps if you want some better high beams. Koito is usualy found on Toyota I think from the 80's
i would suggest placing led bulbs. osram recently made their models compatiple to muliple 740 headlights. Did it last week and the view at night is insane comparable with modern cars.

No. The leds will look out of place in an old car. Thay are also illegal, and the beam pattern is hit and miss.
Glad your 740 wagon passed ✅ The UK , MOT inspection procedure looks very similar to an American State inspection process . The service bay , equipment , almost everything . I haven't seen a German test version . Not sure how stringent their test requirements are . Nice upgrade on the headlamps Without coterizing oncoming traffic , retinas Nothing wrong with new , old stock parts
@bobjohnson1587 I will try no one had any ordered from SKANDIX back in August they told me I would get one in December now they said no longer available 😑 😒
10:00 I fitted LED h4 'bulbs' to my 240 and the same thing happened where when I've got the ignition on the LEDs light up super dimly then just brighten up when I actually turn them on, I haven't figured out why yet (I also haven't watched past this point in the video to see if you find out why) Edit: just watched to the end of the video, I might have to try to do that with my 240 to see if it fixes it
Not legal to be driving with these headlights, but passed MOT anyway? 🤔 Those are standard 4x6" lights, right? They're not for any specific car. Used in a multitude of cars. Also, you can buy them new, no need to hunt for some new old stock and have a mismatched pair. It's not only road signs on the left side that's supposed to be illuminated, but pretty much everything. Also, I'm not sure the beam pattern on those sealed beams is flat, they don't look symmetrical. "Modern" H4 bulbs. 😄 H4 was introduced in 1971. That's 54 years ago. Nothing wrong with them, though. I like a good H4 light.
Those old sealed beam had a pretty much flat pattern in low beam, that's why he can pass the MOT. After sealed beam, americans gets a little asymetrical beam but not as much than european's one

Congratulations! What a beautiful car.👍
Interesting video as always.

Where is "here"?
@bobjohnson1587 Michigan/The rust belt of America.
@@BeardedWrencher Thanks!
Great job there fella. The US lights have grown on me. My G-reg 740 had weak level of light whenever the engine was running as the day running light.

I was worried the smash would be a hard-to-replace part I was glad to see it was part of the failed unit. I love the wellies, a staple of UK life!

Thank you, interesting as always 👍🏻
H4s and US sealed beams have the ground and low beam pins the other way around. It causes some funky stuff when wired backwards.
early datsun pickups also have 4x6 Headlights with h4, bought some for my usa headlights

The look is Personal preference. But as i wrote Osram verified their led to be compatible with official documents at least in Germany
Osram have an "oldtimer" led bulb that produce exactly same color as halogène and available in H1 and H4, they call them "vintage" somewhat...

Great to see another video my 1990 volvo 16 valve isn't on the road yet need a hydraulic belt tensioner can't find a new one😢
Have you tried RockAuto? I just entered 'timing belt tensioner' for a '90 16 valve 740 and 6 came up as being available and in stock.

@bobjohnson1587 has to be hydraulic belt tensioner
@@bobjohnson1587 they have manual but no hydraulic ones..!
Fitted the engine to WHO?? Magnus? I'm honoured. 🤣

If you can pass inspection there in the UK, can you only imagine this car trying to pass strict emissions testing and inspection here in California?
😎
Another few years no more MOT 🎉
I had one, same color. Colour? 😅
Man, that beard is scaring me to death.
At some point I swear I saw something move inside there...
I want the number plate!!!!!!
