It's the Webasto diesel heater starting up that sounds like a turbine. Great job, I bet that was fun in that low temp.

I've got a real soft spot for the old Disco. Vastly better than the later crap lol. But aren't modern engines bloody grim. That tensioner was indeed about to leave the chat so well caught! Great video buddy

I find it's easier to do that job from below and while the belt is off make sure the alternator pulley (if it a freewheel type) is not seized and if any of the other pulley's need changing. But although I have owned a discovery I never had it longer enough to that job, I was to busy fixing electrical problems.
Now I have a Merc, which I did do this job on and is was best to remove the under tray and do it from below and then check all the pulley's every major service.
Great job though thanks for sharing.

When the tensioner is shaking like that its usually the freewheel clutch pulley on the alternator thats siezed up 😊

I was there once , at the barn …if someone has asked me I would replied that a LR would have been the only appropriate car around for those muddy roads around 😅 but you prove me wrong mate 😅😅😅

That jet sound was the parking heater.

I owned a Disco 2, apart from some weird malfunctions it was fine. But as soon as they become more ‘luxury car’ oriented Discoveries became pretty useless. Good luck with travelling to less developed countries in one of those.

I thought everything had electric fans these days.

I've got a countershaft sprocket bolt that someone insisted was left hand thread. I heaved like a bastard on this bolt and snapped the head off. Now I have to drill it and use extractors and I've never done that before. If I fail it's engine out... Please pray for me

Everything that's wrong with modern cars encapsulated. Overly complex, no room to work. The cambelt on a redblock is about the same level of difficulty as that aux belt.

Absolutely, that’s why I like old cars better. No computer stuff that becomes outdated sooner or later. And just simpler, more tried and tested mechanical tech. Maybe not as efficient, powerful or clean running as new cars, but I can do my own work on it and not worry. More than worth it IMO
