He did say in his last January YT video that he was going to be gone 1-3 years. I guess he got out early for good behaviour for washing/working on his Volvos on a Sunday! lol 😉
Can't believe it started with 3-year old petrol. Here in the USA 740 and 940 Volvos are almost impossible to find. Even if you could find one, few mechanics will work on them.
That's my old car. I sold it in Jan 2019. I glad the miles bit is still working after i finally got the replacement gear. It didn't work when I got it and i must have done 300 miles before the fix. The damage to the front bumper was there when I bought it.
@@bobjohnson1587 Ok, you made me look again, the damage on the passenger side front bumper is clear to see on the photo of it outside my house in July 2016. Give me an email and i'll send the picture as you cant post pictures on here. At least not that I know how to do.
I owned this car 2019 through to 2021. I bought it in Devon faded but on the road, I then serviced and cleaned the car up running it from Gloucester to Derby and back 3 times a week. It was a very good and reliable car I did the cambelt in my ownership. I then sold it to my wife’s boss on the promise he would look after it.. unfortunately he failed at that.
This is terrible news. Just as I was getting over owning a 32 year old Volvo, forgetting the hours of rusty bolts, blocked PCVs, knackered turbo chargers and leaking head gaskets you pop back up and torture me with that rasping hiss of a b230 and “there we go guys, they just start and run”. No, can’t do it again 🤣 Glad to see you back at it Sledge!
Lubricate the bonnet hinges throughly before bonnet bends badly. Fuelgauge and whole instrument cluster probably needs re soldering. I bet that under the right rear light there is a rust hole. It surely looks like that. Great to have you back in YT.
I belive the previous owner. My first car was Saab 99 and I crashed it on side of a hilux. Whole truck bed was pushed inward while my Saabs bumber just had dent like that. I'm not even a Volvo enthusiast. I like old BMW's, but I've watched all your videos and I'm glad your back.
Well that was quick :D Awesome, that you acquired a project so fast :) The deep cleaning of that thing will be awesome I suspect, hopefully it turns out well. Fingers crossed, that you can find and fix all the (minor, fingers crossed) problems :P
1990 240 owner here. Runs and drives perfect. Lots of work done almost all by myself. Nice job on the 740. Beauty, put the key in it runs. Still lots of good content to do preventative maintenance and detail. The gray seats are nice.
Welcome back. No bells ringing here i hope. Lovely big Shop to work in as well. This looks like a keeper. Few "bits"2 to tidy up and you are sorted with this one. Later.👍
Nice to see a 740 Saloon. Bet the estate version sold in higher numbers and saloon more rare. Lovely to hear it purring like a kitten! Great to have you back on youtube. Look forward to more 740 and Volvo content.
Great vlog. I owned a 1989 740GLE 2.3/4 auto estate. I sold at 140k miles.i sold it to a prison officer living in the midlands and commuting to Northern Ireland.. he took it to 300k before the gearbox failed. The only thing was the fuel consumption when towing a small boat - 16 mpg
Good to see you back man! Makes me want another 740 so badly. I had the B230K and that Pierburg carb was dreadful. At least the B230F is much more viable.
the cars always come the year before, so it could be sold in June 89' as a 1990. maybe im all wrong on this car but thats atleast how the system was back then.
Yeah, how terrible is that. It started first time after you put oil in the sump and then no need to fix anything, so no content. Tragedy. It will polish up beautifully and be somebodies pride and joy again. There's plenty of content to be had when polishing it. the cobwebs, the moss growing on the outside, headliner. There is always something you can do to improve a car. Thanks for saving another Volvo. It's good to see you back.
I can't believe the fuel gauge is working!! Hope you have a crack at replacing the headliner material.... they are fun getting out without breaking them. 🙂
Happy to see a 740 sedan. They look so weird and so cool at the same time with the very steep rear window. Will she get a name? Remdinds me of the very blue Olly you had back in the days.
I agree. My 1989 740 TIC had the broader grill that filled the entire space between the headlights. I´ve always thought that that design looked much better than the facelift from 1990 - but Volvo somehow meant they had to come up with a change after 6 years of production of the 740.... Good to see Involvo´d back in business!!👍
Hi Sledge...... Thats a great find. For all youre oils, antifreeze, and transmission fluid etc i highly recommend "Westway lubriants" a brilliant company.
Very bad idea not to drain the gas tank and THEN add fresh fuel. Exact same mistake that i made in a 740 b230e engine with k jet injection. Was sitting for 15 years. EVERYTHING was clogged with gas varnish and had to replace or refurbish every single component of the kjet system to put it on the road. Then the cylinder head had corrosion and and also had to open the engine and do the head gasket and head repair... Its difficult for me to believe that this one just started and drove with a quarter of the tank filled with varnished bad fuel mixed with a couple of gallons of fresh 😅😅😅
Yeah, he should have taken a little more time and been a little less eager to get it running and driving it home. That's a rookie mistake and not what I would expect from someone who has been around older cars as much as he has. Hopefully - fingers crossed - everything will work out.
waiting for some kjet volvos content, eitherway, great finding running strong as it was just parked yesterday, it look like my car, its a 1990 with that bonnet/hood only mine is a kjet/b230e one and thats prolly get you a lot of content if you are working on something you never worked on, just saying.
Briiliant video, i just love how they just start, my78 242 Gt did the same thing and my 82 GLT did the same, my 89 244 DL AT does awesome its my daily driver with just over 400,000 kms still runs great i burn average 10 litres a day driving 60 miles a day highway to work, it needs bit of love right now before winter, a question for you will those 15" still wheels off the 740 fit my 240, here in Canada it is almost impossible to get 14" snow tires nowadays ,so i thought just get a set of 15" steelies from a 740 👍
Anyone here knows how to fix the windshield wiper linkage for my 1982 volvo 240? The bearing keeps going up and down and eventually comes off all the time orz.
Anyone noticed yet another “stood for in an overgrown field for 10 years will it fire up” video, there all over RUclips started in the states now everyone’s at it, it’s made me wonder are we being fooled? Because they all start up in no time at all oil water and fuel Bang Every Single One!
This was very quick transition from "I don't know when there will be new Volvo content" to "Hey, look. I have another Volvo"
That thing starts better than my '91 940 with 350k kilometers on the clock. Great find with such low mileage.
Start better than mine and it on road most days😂

Great to see the return of the old Sledge. I know that you can make this old lady young again. Take care.
