I’m 24 and already has debt, so I actually set a budget for Christmas this year, only $200. No traveling. $50 a piece for 3 sibling $25 for my grandmother and $25 for my mom. That’s all I have to spend and I feel very stress free. Very good tips for further reference for me. 👍🏼

She had talked about in another video a while ago to consider the VALUE of gifts rather than the cost. So if you buy a blanket that’s worth $25, but maybe got it on sale for $$15, you don’t need to feel like you now have to buy something else that is $10 to meet the $25 you set for that person. It doesn’t make you “cheap”, it just makes you smart with your money. So look for good deals too, and if you end up under budget then put it towards that debt girl! I’m 25, and I’m working on getting my school loans and my husbands truck as well as some credit card debt paid off so we can buy a dream property. Her tips have helped me so much (especially on grocery spending)!

“Don’t buy things you can’t afford with money your don’t have to impress people you don’t like”
Every holiday season it seems like so many people want to buy our family a gift and expect a gift back. Our rule is if your not immediate family then it’s not in our budget to buy you a gift this year. It’s so easy to go in debt over the holidays and while this seems mean, we aren’t going into debt because of Christmas

I agree- it’s getting soooo out of hand for our family. The last like 5 years there has been 6 Christmas. Every year. My moms/my dads/in-laws/great grandmas/in-laws extended Christmas party/ then our own. I told my husband I’m done. It’s crazy. I’m all for no gifts, my kids don’t care about gifts they would rather play games all day, spend time together. Baking is a little better but it still adds up. Especially like for cookie exchanges and side dishes for every party. We are a big family and just one Christmas party is 160, 25$ adult exchange gift- 10 per kid (we have 6) plus side dishes and a fee for each family to help pay for cost of renting a spot. How much do you spend on Christmas? I’m soo curious!!
Like in total I could t tell you what we do I haven’t actually ever budgeted- I’m too scared 😱 to scared to see how much we spend.

We start buying Christmas gifts in September. Every month until December we buy gifts for our three children. Every child gets 3 gifts, one from us, one from the grandparent and one from the other grandparent. Maximum 50€ for 1 gift. Makes 450,-€ in total for the Christmas gifts. That makes 150,-€ per months until Christmas and is absolutely doable for us. We buy 3 gifts every month (for 3 months total) The extra bankaccount is a great idea. Thank you Jordan 😘❤️

Along with saving an amount every fortnight I also buy thru out the year. I tend to start on Boxing Day (the day after Christmas their are huge sales) I tend to stock up any Christmas supplies like wrapping paper, dinnerware, decor etc. Then I buy “stocking stuffers” thru out the year during sales like back to school, Easter etc. They could be things like colouring books, pens & pencils, kids cups, socks etc. So once it’s Christmas it’s really only one or two larger toy presents that the kids are currently interested in.

  • @juliecastillo914

I like to shop early because I have a lot of people to buy for. I feel like when you wait until a week or two before Christmas you often end up buying junk just to cross somebody's name off the list instead of taking the time to buy something they actually would like. I also love shopping early because it means that I can shop clearance sales and find things family and friends will genuinely love and bonus its 70% off. But you are right it takes a lot of organization. You have to keep a list of who you've bought for so you don't end up buying multiple gifts for the same person.

Last year was our baby’s first Christmas and we learned very quickly that between aunts, uncles, and multiple sets of grandparents, the gifts stack up so fast! This year we’re keeping it to buying 3 or 4 gifts MAX, otherwise come December 26th we have a dozen new toys and stuffed animals to deal with. 😂🤷🏼‍♀️
I love the “something to wear, something to read, something you want, something you need” idea, and I think that’s what we’ll stick with as our kids get older and can ‘pick out’ what they want a little bit better.

Another fun thing to do is a self challenge to see how little you can spend on Christmas without feeling like you’re missing out. Last year, $100 for gifts for our 5 kids and 2 extended families. Yup, pretty proud of that one. (Thrifted, regifted, service, etc) I’m excited what I can come up with this year.

We start our Christmas shopping early. Months before. Find a closet and stor your presents there. You can label them, so you know where it goes. That way you can pay just a little bit for present every month. So easy. So we don't have to pay for anything more than our bills and food when the holiday comes. I know that I will only pay 28 dollars for Christas and New Year dinner. I don't need new decorations. I'll just just the same decor from last year. The cheepest gifts for people ouside the family are DIY in a jar, caramel pican nuts, chocolate bark or chocolate fuge. Easy, you can make a lot and it' so cheep. Loved this video, Jordan! Hugs from Norway.

I do this with a note on my phone. I start early and write gift ideas as I think of them or if my kids mention something they want. I do a lot of shopping on my phone (so I can use cash back websites, earn credit card cashback, and avoid crowds) so I just keep a running budget tally in that note.
I also try to finish everything by Dec. 1st. All decorations, gift buying, travel planning, etc. It makes December much more enjoyable. Our Christmas budget is whatever cashback money we earned from our credit card (we pay it off every month - so we just use it for the cash back). It works really well for us.

*Already bought and wrapped everyone’s Christmas gifts and wrapped them* My husband and I have large families and spent approximately $25-30 per person. I have a “gift idea” list on Amazon, and I put puzzles, TV merch, tea samplers, fun jerky samplers, chocolatey stuff, spa sets, tea infuser mugs, DVDs, books etc.. Everyone loves simple gifts that relate to them. You don’t have to try to outdo yourself every year. You aren’t probably buying their only gift. I don’t buy any gifts before October, but I do most of it then, because we have a higher money flow that month, and it beats the Black Friday mail and most people’s Christmas shopping rush. I feel like there are so many other ways to prepare for Christmas other than gift shopping, so I don’t feel like I overspend. I have all the gifts wrapped in the office, and no longer have to think about gifts (well just the 6 family birthdays between when I started shopping and the end of the year.. Haha.) Then!! In November we focus on our families and thanksgiving. Then Between Black Friday and December 1st when we put up the tree, we move all the gifts under it, which reminds us that it’s all done, and it’s so fun to see them all under there. Then in December we get our Christmas cards sent first, make Christmas cookies, go to parades go to both of our family’s places (with gifts!) and go to Christmas parties and get togethers with friends!

I’m doing this for the new baby. I have a set budget for what I need and a list of things I require. Anything I can get second hand or on great sale is money I can put towards disposables once the baby is born. I love that I can pick up so much stuff for minimal money and still have plenty leftover for nappies/formula/teats/toys etc. most of the stuff I’ve gotten off Facebook marketplace or gumtree is still in box never used and sometimes 50-80% off retail prices. Using the methods you’ve taught me over the past year has allowed my husband and I to demolish $20k debt and save $33k In 5 months!thats 53k In 5 months. God knows what we were spending it on before! as a grandparent it was a shocker to see how much birthday and Christmas added up and when divided by 12 - whoa, to save monthly for this bill was significant it also meant I no longer felt guilty for not buying those big gifts because it just wasn't AFFORDABLE. Doing it this way has saved me money that I really didn't have to go overboard on gifts. Also, all I want for Christmas are pictures of the grandkids, if there is anything I need I will buy it myself. Pictures in a digital frame, got bags and pillows with grandkids, pictures in frames. . . . .

I watch one of your videos last year and started saving for Christmas in January 2019. Hoping everything I saved will take care of presents, outfits, and extras for any festivities. I also started one for Kindergarten for my twins, who will start in 2020. Thanks for the tip this is the first year where I am excited to go Christmas shopping!

I have that same Halloween spider! What I need to do is watch this video every year in January, and that is what I will try to do! This year is already lost however I normally spend around $20 per family member more or less. What I enjoy doing is after Christmas shopping and store the gifts in a tote till the next year or birthdays throughout the year. Thank you, I love your videos, your amazing!

I make lists of people’s interests and wants through the year. It only takes a moment to jot down. If they get anything before Christmas, I just take it off the list. Sometimes I will add items to a cart and when I’m notified of a price drop or it’s the lowest price, I’ll use my budget to purchase the item. I also like making food items as gifts for people because I know it’s something they will use up and enjoy... not just sit collecting dust.

I’ve actually been buying presents since March and doing it like this for 10 years, it works well for me! I keep an eye out for amazing clearance sales and buy stuff when it’s rock bottom prices, for instance I got two sound bar systems for $50 a piece, they were normally $350. One for me and one for my sister. I got Pandora charms when they were on sale in the middle of summer, I also found awesome art supplies and science kits clearanced near the end of summer for kids. I’ve got it stored in a tote, which is where I also store random gift cards I’ve bought when I had extra cash throughout the past 8 months. Around Thanksgiving I pull the tote out with Christmas decor and evaluate what I have and what I need and go from there. I’m also having the host buy all the ingredients for Thanksgiving dinner and giving her half of the money for it. This way she’s got the whole list, I’m not toting 16 things to her house.

My husband and I are allowing each other one affordable gift we can have fun with together (in this case, crossword books from his country and mine). Another idea, for fun, and to instill gratitude, was to rewrap a special present we gave each other before but have not yet had time to use. In this case, I am putting under the tree a treasured book he gave me, and vice versa. Maybe it is silly, but I have so many precious gifts from previous years that have been lost in the busy working parent shuffle. Kids are getting two gifts from us, maybe three because we know they will be gifted by other relatives. The car trip 1,000 miles away to grandma’s is the real gift and adventure with a hot flask of cocoa in the car and a dependable Best Western en route. Time for catching up with things we were too busy to do in the year: podcasts, games, knitting, books, long talks, photography from the road. Just give me a life rich in experiences, and let us give to others in need.

I’m about to make a very similar video! We’ve paid off $18k in the last 5 months and will be debt free by 2020 because of our saving habits. We’ve already had a big discussion as a family about holiday spending. Sounds extreme to a lot of people but we aren’t buying gifts anymore. We’re all contributing money to a charity. My son will get a few gifts but that’s it. Thanks for sharing all of this. It’s helpful!!

I use my bank's Christmas Savings account. It works great. We buy for the grandkids, and give cash to our older kids. Once our kids hit 18
years old, birthdays & Christmas is $25.00 in a card. They all work & all buy what they want themselves throughout the year. Besides...who doesn't like a little jingle for their pocket....☺

We do shop year round for Christmas so we can hit sales, clearance, etc to be able to afford gifts we know people will truly like. All the gifts go in one area of the house and we keep a running list of who has been bought for. Plus dealing with seasonal affective disorder makes the idea of having to get out and shop during December too much for me. Thankfully this system has worked for us for the past 9 years, but I know it's not for everyone.

It's 9th November and I have finished holiday shopping (incl. gifts). I didn't buy wrapping paper because I'm planning to use leftover wrapping paper from last year and the year before and I didn't buy any Christmas tree ornaments because we have enough and I don't want to change the colour scheme. I want to buy some candles for our advent wreath and that's it. I'm using what we already have. I have a 3-year-old daughter who has already written her wishlist to the angels (I'm Hungarian and it's not Santa who brings the presents). She has posted it by herself so she knows there's no chance to change her mind. I won't have a special menu. I'm planning to cook family favourites from Sunday lunches instead.

Another huge budget saving tip for the holidays is: buy a couple family gifts.
You will save a lot of money just buying a couple of gifts for the entire family to enjoy instead of individual gifts. This is also great family bonding for the holidays. It also teaches kids that the holidays is about spending time together and not the gifts. It also helps to buy these gifts throughout the year (or save for it) and not right before Christmas. So for an example our family loves games! So we are buying just a couple of video games we can play as a family. We have 3 in mind to a total of $150. Usually most people will spend almost $150 per person, which is $600 for a family of 4......heart attack!!!

We don't do holidays anymore but when we did I always shopped early and kept track of it with prices. That way I could shop thrift stores and garage sales as well as sales or have time to make a gift. I refuse to enter any store in December because I hate lines and crowds. The only time I have ever shopped in December is when I lived close to a 24 hour store and I could shop a 5 am.

  • @AJay-md1ll

Your hair looks so pretty! But in my family (in law fam and mine) we do a secret santa! It’s cheaper, only 4 total (2 exchanges from each side) gifts for adults (not including kids) and we also set a minimum and a max for the budget so its fair! We also don’t feel as pressured to buy everyone a gift and get into debt. So from buying 20 gifts we only buy 4!!
