MM: Look over here, the turret is completely white at the moment. Great winter camouflage, looks good too.
(pneumatic noises)
MM: It's a paint pump, he's now pumping the paint through the pump because it's currenltly filled with thinner. Once all the thinner has been emptied, the paint will come out and it's ready for use.
MM: One interesting thing to note is the fact that the spraypaint gun we used in the past had an electric pump, driven by an electromotor as opposed to this one which is pneumatic. At the top here, there is a big pneumatic cylinder, at the bottom there is a smaller one, which goes up and down pumping the paint through the hoses.
MM: From this hose the paint flows to the paint gun.
MM: Right now they are doing the difficult to reach spots. If they would try to spraypaint these spots from multiple angles, there is an increased dripping risk. That's why they are first manually painting these spots with a brush. Once this is done they'll spraypaint the entire turret for a neat finished look.
MM: Over there there are also a bunch of parts that require spraypainting. I'll already start taping those pieces, so by the time the turret is done, they can paint these without delay.

Camera director: Are these already in the final colour?
MM: These already have their final colour and are ready for use x2. Beatiful, it's going to be fun reassembling these later on.

MM: There, there, over here this area.

MM: It's looking good. Take a look, the outside is now ready. There are three coats of paint on the turret. They started with the primer, the green layer. The white paint you just saw is the ground colour (intermediate layer) and then the final colour is the desert yellow colour. Initially I thought the white was already the colour of the inside, but that is not the case, it is a ground coating and a final white coating still needs to be applied.
MM: As you can see the outside is now ready. On the inside they still need to put the final white coating on.
MM: Oooo I can't wait till it's ready and we can take it home for reassembly.
MM: It's looking good, for the undercarriage we did everything ourselves, but it can't match the speed and the precision of the spray painter here. It would have taken much longer.
MM: This is nice, the inside of the hatches is also yellow and not white to ensure they are camouflaged when opened. Otherwise it would be quite obvious when you open the hatches.
MM: The german tank captains always called the russian tanks Mickey mouse tanks, because the latches when opened looked like Mickey mouse ears. As opposed to the Russian tanks, German tankshad hatches that slid to the side instead of folding open. On our tank, the drivers hatch has a similar configuration, this was done to prevent the hatch from being hit when the turret moves.
MM: Let's go home and clean the camera, it appears to have also gotten a little camouflage during our stay.
Camera director: Oh no!
MM: We are going home now. I just got a message from Neuhauser and they said that everything should be ready tomorrow. So with a bit of luck we'll have all the pieces back in our workshop later this week, ready for assembling.
MM: I've gotten the crane ready to move the blast cabinet, which we got from HBN. In the meantime I've gotten an update from the transport company and they told me the turret will be back tomorrow. So we need to make some room for it in our workshop.
MM: As you know we already emptied out a spot in our workshop for the blast cabinet, so let's put it in place now.
MM: This is the right spot, I think.
MM: Looking good!
MM: The blast cabinet is surprisingly heavy, so we won't be able to lift it with the two of us.
MM: I'm putting a piece of cardboard between the rope and the cabinet to avoid damaging it.
MM: Ah the front still needs to come from the ground, wait never mind this will do.
MM: OK
MM: Yeah looks good, this is the correct position.
Camera director: Ya of uncertainty.
MM: Worked out just fine.
Camera director: Yep of reassurance.
MM: Yeah these (turret ring) still need to be readied for assembly. We were hoping we'd have time before the turret arrived, but since it's arriving tomorrow we won't have enough time. Doesn't matter too much as we can lift the turret with the crane and slide the turret ring in place.
MM: We've been thinking about how to assemble the turret ring later on. Won't be too difficult, we're just going to pick it up with a forktruck, then we'll lift the turrent on one end and slide the turret ring in place. We still need to derust the turret ring and clean up the ball bearing track before they can be reassembled and mounted in the tank.
MM: That's all for today, we didn't do much more here in the workshop.
MM: I'm grabbing my phone for the reactions of the postvlog & Friday's video.
MM: Up first: Friday's video " a new tool in the workshop".
Jan: "It's important to not put oily or dirty parts in the blast cabine, this will start to degrade the sand and could potentially block the pipes, pumps and what not. So before the sandblasting make sure to degrease and clean the components. Since it's usually a bit of a mess in the workshop, machinery maintenance is also important."
MM: Yes, if you'll start blasting greasy components this will end up in the sand, causing everything to clog together. The sand is collected at the bottom of the blasting cabinet. There's also a hatch to clean out the cabinet when the sand is worn out. Every time the sand hits a component it breaks up in smaller pieces and it also loses it's sharpness. This results in a reduced grinding effect, the smaller/lighter the sand the poorer the effect (reduced impact). Note that there are multiple types of sand that can be used. E.g. steel sand (very heavy), which removes a lot of material and works quickly. In our workshop on the other hand we have much lighter material, which works well, but it's a lot lighter and will work slower. The advantage of this is that we can also use it for other more soft metal types without causing too much damage. Either way we just got the machine, so we'll definitely experiment moving forward to see what works and what doesn't. We can quickly drain the sand and replace it with something different. (just put a bucket underneath the drain and remove the sand.) Definitely interesting to experiment with it.
Leon: "The 'heftrut' / forkbitch (wordplay in dutch) thinks I better perform well or I'll have to look for a new place."
MM: All of a sudden the forktruck repaired itself. And now it's working fine again. Either way it requires some maintenance and we're looking for a more durable solution in the meantime.

Bram: "That's it, I'm tired of the neverending 'dome' vs 'tower' discussion
(Intermezzo - There's been an ongoing discussion on what the correct terminology is for the turret in Dutch. According to some literature it's a 'tower' but some people think it makes more sense to call it a 'dome'. Pretty sure the English word is turret and not aware of any discussion on terminology.)
The moment there is a 'big boom tube' (Dutch exageration to refer to the barrel) in that badboy it's a 'dome' before that it's just a rotating roof. 'Tower' should only be used if the turret has more than three floors. In other words, everyone, now it's a rotating roof and soon it will be a dome. It's also correct to call it a 'dome' now, since soon the 'big boom tube' will be put in place again. (anology) A car where you remove the wheels from, isn't suddenly a garden decoration. It's still a car, just call the thing by it's given name. (Literally in Dutch: Name the beast by it's name.)
A 'puller' is a truck with a trailer and a 'tractor' is an agricultural vehicle.
(Ongoing discussion on the correct terminology of vehicules that have an attachment for pulling of other things such as trailers and whatnot. This has been brought up in many other episodes and there's the Master Milo camp aka the 'tractor' camp and the 'puller' camp aka Dirk.)

MM: Very nice, too bad Dirk isn't here as he's a supporter of 'puller' while I'm more of a tractor guy myself.
MM: Regarding 'dome' vs 'tower', I used to call it a 'dome' and I still prefer to call it that. That being the case, there are others who say it should be called a 'tower'. In either case the sources for these terminology differences aren't very clear to me at this point in time. All things considered, it's the roof of the tank (Master Milo throwing a curve ball).
Paul: "German innuendo" (They were talking about birds, much like one would do in English, but in Dutch 'to bird - birding' is a verb you can use for actions.)
MM: Too bad Dirk isn't here to comment, maybe we'll have to bring this up tomorrow again.

Hallo Milo, ik gebruik een iets kleinere kast van HBM maar de werking is het zelfde.
Het is net als met schuurpapier, begint geweldig en wordt steeds slechter, hoe beter je het werkstuk voorbereid hoe makkelijker het gaat.
Verf probeer ik er zoveel mogelijk af te steken.
Op den duur krijg je toch wel een dingetje in je grid, ik haal het er dan uit en leg dan in de kast een zeef en via dat gaat het er weer in, werkt prima.
De meeste stof gaat je afzuiger in, op den duur zit hij zo vol, dat je het gaat merken met stralen, goed uitkloppen in een vuilzak, maskertje op doen.
Ik koop altijd het grofste, wordt toch wel rap kleiner.
Glasparel op aluminium of koper werkt ook grandioos, mot je je werkstuk daarna is over een staalborstel van een slijpmachine halen, kan je je haar er in kammen.
Als ik ga wisselen, dan haal ik de aanzuigleiding los van het pistool, zet de afzuiger aan en gebruik het pistool dan als luchtspuit met de kast weer dicht natuurlijk.
Op de 2e comment bedoelt hij pruisisch Blauw voor tandwielen, ik gebruik dat altijd in een differentieel om het kroonwiel en pignon op elkaar af te stemmen, met die verf kan je zien waar die draagt en waar er eventueel hoge punten zitten.
Komt ie nog 1 keer.

I spend a month in Australia (Victoria) this year, just before the worldwide covid lockdown and walked the F1 Melbourne circuit while it was being rigged. Why I commented: I was watching an episode of Werkplaatsvlog on my smartphone on the grandstand, next to the starting grid.
The people over in Victoria told me that there are quite an amount of Dutch folks living there: maybe they can help to translate into Australian ;-)

In het Nederlands is het bekend als Pruisisch Blauw, je smeert het op een onderdeel, drukt twee onderdelen tegen elkaar, en dan zie je de afdruk van de raakvlakken op het andere onderdeel.

inderdaad Splinter, Pruisisch Blauw is waar deze kijker op doelde. mooi om te zien waar de high spots en wrijvingsvlakken zitten. wij hebben het op het werk momenteel ook in het rood. maar die is natuurlijk verder voor de werking irrelevant.
en Emile dacht dat de kijker de zogenaamde loodjes proef bedoelde. om de daadwerkelijke speling (play) te meten.
hiervoor gebruiken wij op het werk ook wel play-doh klei gerold als een wormpje en tussen keuken vers-houd-folie. om de ruimte te meten tussen een kunststof vorm, hiervoor is lood te hard uiteraard.
Aftekenlak, traceerlak of markeerlak heet dat ook wel.
@@landsgevaer afteken lak is weer wat anders. Bijna het zelfde maar anders. dat droogt namelijk welk. daar smeer je een heel oppervlakte mee in, en daarin kras je dan (met een kraspen) je lijnen waarom je het stuk wilt bewerken, gaatje boren, af snijden etc. Pruisisch blauw droogt niet.
@@Jacob-W-5570 Ah, ik zie het. Ik dacht dat je het contact zag als een kras in de lak, maar dit spul geeft juist af op het schone deel dat het raakt. Het lijkt wel traceerlak genoemd te worden als ik er op zoek, maar geen aftekenlak nee. My bad; merci voor de correctie! 👍

I used an airless professionally for over twenty years so I anticipated his every move. He paints exactly as I did and with about the same speed. One has to keep an eye on cheap disposable brushes to make sure they don't shed bristles.
Did you get a jealous of his fantastic gear as I did?

Wat een vaklui en bijna therapeutisch om naar dat spuit en schilderwerk te kijken. I love it!
I'm so happy for these guys entering the final phases of the tank restoration. I imagine viewership really increased a lot with this project(it got me watching). The more I think about it, this is really a very interesting tank as well. This was the backbone of the biggest armored assault since WW2; when Hussein invaded Iran in 1979. There is so little documentation of that war. And yet here, you now have a living artifact that these 2 literally brought back from the dead. I can't not watch this.
Mastermilo thinks that this tank was built in China in the 80s and has only served in Iraq in the first gulf war.
@@leonardd3652 He probably has proof then. I imagine more were purchased from China since the war started than before, as replacements were needed.

I remember Mastermilo saying that the British army captured this tank because it then was in relative good shape and wasn't used much by the Iraqi army. That suggests that the tank was built in somewhere the 80s. Very interesting though. Mastermilo has tried to contact the actual British soldiers involved capturing the tank in the first gulf war. I really hope that Mastermilo will tell us more about it later.
Toch weer fascinerend om te zien dat het met het spuiten weer zo mooi wordt.
Lots of attachment hooks for adding stuff on the tank turret. Will be interesting to see what goes on each attachment hook. Shovel? Axe? Radio antenna? Spare tank track shoes? Crowbar? Just don't see a bustle basket on the rear of the turret to store the crew's personal items and small arms ammo.
Where do they store the inflatable dolls then?
@@Smartzenegger I guess you can put your special toys in the storage bustle on the rear of the turret. Looks like this tank did not have a cargo cage on the rear of the turret. No commanders cupola on top either. American tanks always have a cargo cage mounted on the rear of the turret. The tank crew stores the ruck sacks, duffel bags, and miscellaneous gear in the cargo cage. Called a Tank Bustle in American English. Don't know the British English word.

@@Smartzenegger This a military vehicle that is intended for war. If all the personal gear is destroyed then the survivors get new gear to replace the destroyed stuff. New uniforms, boots, rucksacks, sleeping bags, and whatever. The deceased get body bags and a free burial. The purpose of a tank is combat in war to destroy the enemy. So nobody needs to worry about stuff that may get destroyed. That's the hard reality of war. In combat you are either the Quick or the dead.

You are correct on the blue dye. It is used the show high spots (excess metal). It is used a lot in stamping sheet metal dies in auto factories.

Engineers blue. You put it on crown wheels in differentials. No use on your slew ring, it has had too much abuse. Engineers Blue is a good thing to have though. * Duetze bump clearance :o) So many times when I fixed agri equipment. It really works though and I used to keep the flattened soldering-wire because it still joined copper wires just fine :D Lapping in Deutze cylinder heads with valve lapping paste was a miserable job :o
@jack tarr oh don’t even go there, this thread will be huge. My work mate Mark was welding with arc rods in his rivulet pocket. I greased the ends of them as I walked out to the truck to go on site :o)
Some people call it "bearing blue" because it was used on the bearings in engines when they had to be scraped to size. Lets you find the high spots on the bearing surface.

Dat is een hele investering. Ik zie liever dat ze dat in mooie projecten en de werkplaats zelf steken.
I don't think it is fair of us to ask for 4k on these daily vlogs, that would take them literally hours to upload/render just a 30min video. For the Main channel this would be a great option of course. And 4k is still not used by many people. And on the spray painting, yes i also find this super super satisfying to watch haha, i also love those factory sounds :D

With the parts hanging ready for painting it looks like a plastic kit of a tank you assemble as a child!
Also, the one thing I found is that the pick up tube is only a 1/2" , so it can clog easily. I put a round screen over it, about 2" around. That helped a lot.
When are you guys going to get the gun barrel back?
In the Netherlands you can't just have weapons, even if they're disabled. You need to have a permit. Emile has applied for such permit but Dutch authorities take their time. And now there's COVID-19 so they will probably take even longer to decide whether or not to give Emile this permit.
When the paperwork and the psychological tests are finished :) you need to take that test in holland before you can own such a thing :)

I think the blue style dye is used to check for a wear pattern on the gear teeth. It would be removed in the contact area to see if the mesh is even., This is primarily used for differential gears to make sure the hypoid gear mesh is centered, and shims are added to adjust.
Milo also mentioned using a lead compressive element to check engine clearances. Dense modeling clay can also be used, where as the piston comes up in the bore, and the valves open, it checks for piston clearance to the cylinder head surface and also the valves. Fly cuts are added to the pistons as the fix for valve clearance or a thicker head gasket if a minimal add is needed. Claying the engine is the slang for that process.
He is referring to a substance called engineers blue which is applied to show where the gears are meshing correctly it comes in a tube and is like an artists paint
Engineer Blue could be what they mean for checking rub between metal parts! any updates for the barrel?

In one of the last episodes he said that he is thinking about storing it somewhere else, so he has room for restoring the other tank he has bought.
@@mmm365 I would think there will be film makers etc who will pay to use it for filming etc. They could also rent it to companies that do tank days too. Not sure if that's a thing in Holland like it is in the UK though.

The first T34s had a single hatch for both commander and gunner. Then they switched to two round hatches. When open the silhouette looked like Micky Mouse. The Germans would have rejected it to eliminate being shot at by their own people, I guess.

Engineer's Blue: it transfers from one surface to the other where there is contact and shows where the high spots are, so you can file away the high spots and get better contact between the surfaces

There is a system out there for HVLP (high volume low pressure) for blasting that wears away the paint layers. Wheat starch is used along with other types.

Ik denk dat er markeer blauwsel bedoelt wordt. Je gebruikt dat ook als je een geleiding moet schrapen. Één vlak van het samen te stellen onderdeel blauw maken. De betreffende onderdelen langs elkaar bewegen. De hoge punten worden dan blauw. Die vijl, slijp of schraap je weg

Het geheel is een koepel, het gedeelte waarin zich het geschut bevindt (dus ook wat onder de koepel zit) is de geschuttoren. De toren zit dus in de koepel.
De blauwe markeringsverf voor op staal heet tracee lac en is van griffon mocht je het nog zoeken

Straalgrit lijkt op “ Brown fused Alumina” word gebruikt in slijpmiddel industrie en vuurvaste materialen. Wat is de korrelgrootte?
Dat weet ik niet, dat moet je even aan slager korrel vragen.
Dit wordt waarschijnlijk bedoeld met die blauwe inkt meuk. Schijnt goed te werken. Google maar eens op 'blue dicom'.

Hoi Milo (en team), zou je die straalcabine wel direct naast je mooie lasafzuiging zetten? In de clip van vrijdag viel er nog best wel wat straalgrit uit na openen van de kast, beetje zonde als je dat allemaal direct opzuigt als de opzuiging aanstaat. Niet zo zeer dat je steeds minder straalgrit hebt maar wel dat de binnenzijde van je afzuiging gestraald (en vervuilt) wordt. Keep up the videos! mvg Sander

I have no idea on this cabinet, but, the only one I used had a filter chamber that was all the back of the machine with a fan in it. Only the fine worn-out aluminium oxide got up into the filter box. You pulled a cable to bang a thing inside and the dust would fall out. *I threatened many times to put a vibrator motor on the main funnel so the shot fell down :o)

ik kom de spullen wel een keer brengen als ik die kant op moet
denk aan gereedschap en bevestigings matriaal mvg tom
blue stahl dye is eigenlijk hetzelfde als vet. meestal blauw vet dat smeer je op de tandwielen en dan draai je de tandwielen rond en dan kun je zien waar de tandwielen slijten aan de hand van de plek waar het vet weg geschaapt word.

Die comment over blue stahl dye gaat volgens mij om een soort "verf" die je gebruikt om de tandwielafdruk af te lezen, net als voor het afstellen van differentieel van een auto. Hier gebruiken ze er meestal oker geel voor dacht ik? Blijkbaar bestaat het ook in het blauw :') Als je zoekt op Gear Marking Compound kun je 't zo overal bestellen.

De verfpomp heet een Airless pomp . Ik gebruikte bij een kozijnen fabriek als Natlak spuiter een HotAirless pomp. Verwarmd verfspuiten. Nadeel van die cilinder dat er olie in dat schaaltje moet en die pakkingen slijten heel snel dan komt er allemaal verf mee naar buiten 🥴
