  • Born in the small city of Mkhanda in the Eastern Cape, much of Brad Jackson’s work is inspired by the landscape and identity of his home province. In 2015 he moved to the Cape to study Fine Art at Stellenbosch University. Through four years of diverse exposure to multiple artforms, he acquired many skills, including sculpting, welding, producing sound and video art and taking photographs.
Brad is currently pursuing his passion for filmmaking and furniture design through Brad Jackson Studio. Much of his work is an investigation of place. He draws inspiration from the history and nature of a site. His creative process becomes part of the work, in which he makes use of themes such as locationality and site specificity.
As a freelance filmmaker, opportunities were minimal over the 2020 lockdown period. So, he decided to use the time to pursue a creative project called The Studio Sessions. Combining film and design, The Studio Sessions is a short video series that focuses on bespoke furniture design made entirely from found objects.
The idea behind the project was to have a cost-effective and eco-conscious approach to bespoke design. The total expense of the project was under R1000, which included paints and varnishes. Most of the materials were rescued off roadsides or salvaged from building sites.
