Go back to the air Force. U can thank me later
No...don’t do it. If you qualify for Air Force go there. Such a better life.

I love and appreciate your videos man. You make them very imformative and are easy to understand. I am working on joining the Army National Guard on this spring of 2020.
I would say look into the Army Reserve as well. Also weight your options between Active duty and Reserve/Gaurd.

Thank you fys brother. Amd thanks for stayimg in good shape even tho you are not active duty anymore. Your doing a great job and i watch your videos before i joined the army. Your videos are one of the things that inspired me.
Please go over difference between National Guard and Army Reserves!
The guard is both federal and state. Which means they can be activated by both the president and the state governor. One main difference about the guard compared to reserve is that the guard often get activated to aid natural disasters and sometimes civil unrest. But if ur contemplating the two, I would go with the guard cause they often have better benefits.
yenhan705eh77 I’ve been told not to go Guard but mainly for the reason that if your state has no money, you don’t get paid.
@@musicgirl999 I don't know where u hear that from but I was in the guard for six years and that never once happened to me. 🤷
yenhan705eh77 That’s good. Do you get any education benefits?
@@musicgirl999 yes. The guard actually have more education benefits than the reserve

I joined the Army Reserves in 1989 during my Jr year of high school on what was called Split Option. After my Jr year I went through Basic Training then came home for my Sr year. After graduating high school I went through AIT for my MOS, 88N. The cool thing was that I went in as a PV1 and between the time of Basic and AIT I got promoted twice so went to AIT as a PFC.
So which one is the easiest it one if I’m trying to join and become a army police officer or police officers 👮♀️ please
@@masterlook6552 Honestly it doesn't matter if you join the Active Army, Army Reserves, or National Guard. They all go through the same Basic Training and AIT. It all depends on if you want to be full time or just drill for 2 days a month and 2 weeks a year.
I told my recruiter I was moving to a city for college 1600 miles away, he found a unit in that city and my options were 12N and 12W, right now in 12N AIT. I say it's the most flexible option available
Thank you for this video brother I'm in the middle of talking to a recruiter now and joining the army reserves... The balance really sounds good I'm looking forward to this let's go
I’m a navy reservist, I just got a DD368 and passed my board for OCS. I’m going into the army reserves as an O1 and already have been selected Into a unit less than 50 miles from me! Currently waiting at MEPS to see when I go to OCS and all of that, you answered all of my questions, great video!
Thanks for your videos!
I joined the National Gaurd this summer and I ship off to Basic next month. Your videos helped me make my decisions as well as strive for 09s.
Why you choose the Gurd vs Reserve or Active Duty? Just curious.
How was it man?
Thank you for the information! I am soon to enlist in the Army reserves and this gives me a more clear perspective of it.
thanks for the video Soldier, I still want to be part of my civilian life and be in the military, and for that reserve is best fit, I’m able to do all around things, also for the experience 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

You are going to wish you went acive duty once you get done with basic.
Rich B why ?
@@boooyakasmith5939 it's not that the Reserve is bad, but if you don't have a good set in motion plan and self motivation on what you are going after you are done with basic training/AIT than you will wish you went active. The main reasons are 1, your pay has a big drop once you are done with basic/AIT because you are no longer full time. 2, After basic/AIT the initial fear of joining the Army is gone and you are motivated to do Amry stuff. 3, the majority of your friends that you meet in Basic will be going Active. 4. You get a taste of living on your own having money in a new place, but once Basic/AIT is done you will have to go back to your hometown to the Reserve center.
Should have went active duty
My cousin just graduated from there last week
I decided to do in this year after 3 years of thinking about it wish me luck
How was it ?
So I'll end up possibly running across matt after I finish BCT in october and AIT in January I'm going reserve and live in Houston as is one of the biggest reserve compounds centers.
It's possible!

I'm British and I'm going into SBS reserve training, just wanted to know about these questions, thank you! 😎
14:00 As a recruiter, that is absolutely something that we can do. It doesn't necessarily guarantee the job, but the majority of the time we can get you the job you want with the reserves as long as you're qualified for it
My dad told me that he and my step mom are going to send me off to the army reserves next summer every weekend. My dad recommended I look up jobs there and research on it more. This is my first video on looking into it, and it did help me some thank you mister ^^

Matt,
My name is Joshua Harrell. I just transferred from the NC Army National Guard to the Army Reserves. I have been in the Army for over 6 years and I am an E-5 and was an 35F Intel Analyst in the guard and I am changing my MOS to 68X Behavioral Health Specialist. I have to go to Texas for AIT in January but I'm sure AIT as an NCO will be better than AIT as a private. The NCARNG would not let me change my MOS and I was driving 1 hr one-way to drill in Lenoir, NC. I live just outside of Ft. Bragg. So I decided not to reenlist. Then a reserve career counselor called me and told me I could change my MOS and found me a unit on Ft. Jackson in SC that is only 2.5 hrs one-way. Another plus to the reserves is that they have lodging in kind (LIK), which means they provide me housing because I commute pretty far for drill. So no more sleeping in my car outside the NCARNG armory or sleeping on the drill hall floor. I wish I knew the reserves was better 6 years ago. Look me up if you ever want to PT together! Haha
Good job on the videos. By doing the Reserves I was able to rank up before I did my AD time...
There may not be any combat units in the reserves, but you can definitely go from active duty to reserves with a combat mos. Im in a medical unit and we had an 11B in our S-3
Very helpful video Matt:)
Thanks!

Correct me if I’m wrong but I was told by a recruiter if you are reserve you can ask to sign up for an active duty post and they can ship you out. Just something to think about if you wanna go on a deployment wherever that maybe
Do a Video about the National Guard!
Ok give me a minute
You should do a video on "VETERAN STATUS", alot of soldiers in the Guard and Reserve don't realize Active duty automatically gets this status.
even though im going active for warrant officer as CID or i'll just enlist as a UAV pilot and yet im still here just to support matt

Hey Matt. Some reserve unit I heard doesnt release you unless you serve like a year in the unit in order for you to switch up to active duty. You mentioned transition from reserve to active duty takes 6 months. Can you make a video of how likelihood is it that reservist can switch up to active duty for those who are not satisfied with reserve life so they want to change to active duty status. Also the difference between AGR VS active duty

Thank you so very much I have an interview tomorrow
Hey, tried googling this but I'm still a little confused. I was just wondering if I go the reserve route in the army, do I have to contemple that enlisted contract before I can become an officer? Sorry if that doesn't make sense. Like, say I finish school first (goal is to commission as officer) before I complete my reserve contract, should I just stick with my first mind and go ROTC?
I’m considering joining the reserves, I took my ASVAB 2 week ago and scored an 80 and since I already have a bachelors degree my recruiter said that I will come in 3 ranks ahead of those without a degree so I could probably make more money
You will come in as an E4 with a bachelor's degree. My suggestion is do it for like 3 years than put in a warrant packet. I don't know anyone that doesn't like being a warrant officer.
I have a question!!
I have a question, so I’m still kind of in the process of medical stuff so I haven’t sworn in yet or been to meps but my contract is for Army Reserves, is it possible to switch to active duty without any complications or would I have to start all over? What would happen or what would I need to do?
Im actually 17 years old and im in reserves up untill i graduate from highschool then i go to ait and switch over to active duty. So yes it is very possible to switch althought it does take a considerable amount of time.
As a Warrant Officer in the Reserves I can tell you this also for any prospective recruits as well.
It is no longer 1 weekend a month and 2 weeks a year.
If you’re a ready force unit you will have AT (annual training) for a minimum of 21 to 29 days at least once a year , not 14 days.
Our unit has done 3 AT a year and all have been 29 days lately. Also some drill periods are not 2 days they can be 3 to 5 days.
If you’re an NCO be prepared to spend a ton of time that you’re not compensated for during the week handling tankers being pushed down from above as well.
Believe me it is a lot and the Army isn’t really discussing this at the recruitment level. So my advice is ask questions and ASK A TON of them.
Also be prepared to drive to drill as well for what your MOS is. My unit has people drive from TN and WV to IN.
LT. I have you beat on travel though. I now got transferred to Los Angeles from IN and have to fly monthly now. Gotta love being a WO in my MOS in the reserves.
Good video keep it up.
WO1 Eberlein 890A out👍
TODD EBERLEIN they can’t make you do 3 AT’s in a year if you are doing that it was a choice
Michael Sieber not when you’re a ready force unit. You’re at the needs of the Army as we’ve found out. Constant NTC rotations is what has been going on. We had people trying to not go for reasons and got denied. I’m glad I got good year with school instead as well as my AT.
Yea they make you go to one and I’ve never seen a ready force unit go to NTC more then once every 2 years
Michael Sieber that’s what we thought and in 2018 we did June , Aug, and the best of all a Sept to Oct splitting the FY 18 & 19. That was fun for orders and pay. Glad I was in Minnesota for 29 days. NTC is like a sandy toilet! Chaps your butt!! 🤪
You’re awesome man. I leave for basic in a month! Am I able to work more days a month or am I just limited to the one weekend a month??
Limited . He has a video on this question as well.
can you choose if you want to be active duty or reserve during hiring
Matt, question. I am considering joining the reserves.. I have been talking to a recruiter and he tells me that if someone wants to join the reserves, you can ONLY do a 6 year contract. On your video I noticed you mentioned 3 years or 6 years. Is he misleading me? Where could I find this Info about signing for 3 years in the reserves? Thank you! Love your videos!
hey man i know this is late but hes right and i wish i would have know it as well before signing a six year contract and enlisting as an 15p God bless u brother
Thanks man !
Thanks for the video I’m considering joining the reserve but I’m considerably later in life than most watching this video I’m sure. Question if I’m turning 34 this December is it to late to be considered for service? I’m in good health work out regularly and have a machinist background.
Cutoff I believe it's 34 or 35. Never too late. I know guys that were WAY out of shape and enlisted at the cutoff age.
This may sound funny but everytime I search up a question about the military I click on a video and it's yours jajaja I think I've watched like 10 videos so far lol thank you though for the information Ive watched videos from marines to army to air force and now this one the army reserve I'm having trouble deciding lol
Is your life here so bad that you might potentially lose it in some Godforsaken country, defending the SCUM that run this country?
Hey Matt quick question, so when in the reserves I will deploy at least once. Or is it possible I won’t deploy. Obviously it doesn’t bother me if I’m joining the military, Thank you for the great videos!
Joey Pluta
hard to say. I know an active duty E6 who's been in army for 7 years but hasn't deployed yet (he did go to Turkey for a year but that doesnt count as deployment like going to Iraq/Afghanistan would). So it might be possible that you could be in the reserves for quite sometime and not deploy.
Joey Pluta It depends on the unit some people deploy a few times reserves side and others don’t deploy at all. If you want a deployment units are always looking for bodies
Oh wow I drill in Houston too!! 321st!!!
So as a reserve AGR is the best way to go? I talk to my recruiter in 3 days excited yet nervous
so if you join reserves do you immediately get college benefits or does that come later? Like if someone just finished all their training could they immediately enroll at a new school after?
There is an 11B reserve unit in Hawaii. Reserves hardly have standards at least the units near me. E-4 and below don’t make anywhere close to $500 a weekend. An average weekend is doing inventory or paperwork. Only “army training” is on your AT
Really helpful great 👍 job
Can you rank up while being in army reserve
This might be a stupid question but I have friends who served in the Marines for 4 years. They joined the Marines after they graduated high school in 2013. Now they’re working civilian jobs. Are they considered as reserves?
So question, my active duty contract is almost over and I am gonna have to transfer to army reserves to complete my initial 8 years.
-How much would I be making as a specialist in the reserves?
-Would I be able to use the 16 credit yearly tuition assistance?
-And, would they cover travel expenses for when I go to the drill?
For pay, probably 370ish, probably more, for that weekend a month.
Yes.
Also yes if the drill is more than 50 miles out. Save receipts.
@Matt WHAT YOU GO TO HOUSTON AND ARE A OFFICER i really want to join the army as well and become a officer in the near future but I’m debating whether I want to join active duty ( been leaning more towards active ) or join reserve and I personally stay near Houston as well though. Thoughts???
Are you able to break down the Active Reserves more? What does that entail, college?
If college is your MAIN focus, then the guard has more benefits. May not at this moment with the budget, but before they were better for ppl wanting college over military duty. Reserves has a good budget over guard right now.
Thank You.
So you don’t have to live in the state? I will be living in ny but I currently live in va right now. And they pay your travel expenses?
Can’t wait to transition from active duty to reserves .
I want to know after boot camp would they try to get you into an AIT program close to your home or would they try to get you into an AIT program anywhere
Reserves fill the position of active duty deployed at home in different factors. I think that is why you don't get it. They fill thier position at home meaning in terms of numbers and incase of war like world war 3.
If my MOS is 11b Infantry man and I'm in the reservist down in American Samoa, how would I maintain drills when I'm in the states? Do i have to find a recruiter and change my MOS? Because I still wanted to be in the reservist due to civilian job....
Hi! Thanks for the video. What do a reserve when gets deploy? Same things that an active?
What do you mean by deployed? If you are in deployment regardless of where, then you are active and ARMY not ARMY RESERVE. Once your an inactive state you are considered reserve.
If you have a civil job and decided to join the army reserve they can fired you for that? Like the first training you are gonna be gone for a couple weeks so that Can may affect?
Just here looking at what goals I can make true after my 4 yrs active r done. (Havent went to boot yet but I plan ahead.)
Honest question. Why do you think anyone other than yourself has that answer?
So where do we stay when we have to do basic training for the 3 months?
My question is one similar to your situation. I own a business that I can run from home and visit when needed. I own vacation rentals, just two. I am an older recruit, 33, and want to join reserves. I am ok with any deployment that would or could happen and the time each month to travel to MOS. My question is this, can you really live in any state while in the reserves and still carry out your daily life? I have rental properties in Florida but will be moving to Cincinnati within a year. Thanks in return!
Been in the Army 15 years. So yes, you can do that and if you move to another State it's not hard to transfer to another Unit. Things to take into consideration though. 1. Once you join the Reserve you will still have to do Basic Training and your MOS Training together. So depending on your MOS that means you will be gone from home for at least 4 months. Sometimes you can split up Basic Training and your MOS Training but that's usually for people in High school or College. 2. While in the Reserves you will be required to meet up at a minimum one weekend a month and two weeks a year. For those two weeks you will offten be out of state or far from home for that training. And a lot of units will do more that two weeks usually around 20 days. Also the one weekend a month will offten mean Friday as well.
What you tell me about 12 R Interior Electrician ? This MOS has any frequently deploy?
I’m planning to jump to officer after 3 years as an enlisted reserves. Is it possible that i can apply for officer even if my contract isn’t finished yet?
I am sorry but I am always confuse about the one weekend per month, do they count Friday?
I have a job that I love but have always wanted to serve my country. Is this a good option?
So if u are a army Reserve can you live in the base ? And will they pay you the bill of electricity and etc.?
Mr matt i would like to have my emt and paramedic classes paid for while in the army reserves. But i want sign only a 2-3 contract. Can and will that work ?
No, I'm answering this just In case you haven't already researched it. Unless you go active your lowest possible contract ( in all likelihood ) is going to be 4-8 years. If you somehow manage to get as low as a four year contract then you're absolutely so incredibly lucky
If you have to move and there are no positions for your MOS anywhere near you, can you go back to AIT and get another MOS or will they let you go? Also, can you change your MOS after 3 or 4 years in the reserves or do you have to wait until your contract is up?
I'm a recruiter in Mankato, MN. I have been talking with a lot of reservists and the large majority of them have changed their MOS due to moving to a new unit or some other situation that came up. If you want to put in a transfer for a new unit and they don't have your position available, your new unit will send you to training for whatever slot they have available. I'm not sure whether you have a choice on the new MOS though, but I'm sure you have some partial say at least in the new unit and reserve units are always specialized (I.E. Engineers, medical, etc)
Hey brother, while reserves, do you know if you can join law enforcement after military basic? How does the military respond to, maybe, going into the police academy while in reserves?
Thanks!
I’m a deputy sheriff at the moment and I’m gonna join the reserves soon. We always have a lot of military come to law enforcement so you should be able to do it
Don’t get me wrong reserves have all my respect but active duty or reserves deployment is the front line for making our country PROUD!!! 11x all the way! Thank you all for your service GO ARMY!!!!
its harsh for them they may never see combat but they will miss out on family and family is only 1 time thing. my friend went to the army and he did not return for the holidays he spent it in the army. im sure he went active duty. if i join i want to join 2 years reserved non combat MOS. medical field in the military is a great career choice and that path should make you into a specialist or doctor.
I'm thinking about joining reserves, I've thought about doing active but for me the contracts are just too long, I did see that army now has a 2 year active and 2 year reserves which does look tempting but I'm still between air force reserves and army reserves,
I had no idea you were in Charlotte, NC. I live in Pineville!
Let me ask you a question.. my father-in-law said that he was in army reserves and he was a sergeant 🤔 I've seen the pictures of him with his men and I know that he was a sergeant. So I'm a little confused on now.
How does joining the reserves help with college expenses
When you help me in my dream you made me want to be in the army when I was 13 now I'm 17 about to turn 18 and I am almost ready to be in the Marine Corps for a fighter jet pilot and thank you for everything that you've done then help me with and you're just a great RUclipsr bra love you man
Alternatively you can enlist in the army as a uav pilot without college
How can I join the reserves or guard and go to airborne and ranger school. Because I heard it was hard to get into those schools when your in the reserves or guard
What exactly is Active reserve?
So are you saying that as a reserve I would not get combat training?
I don't want to join the military and end up washing dishes or driving a bus
Can you study abroad while in reserve like could you tell them to take a few months off and won't be able to work because you're going to study abroad while in collage in a different country?
Generally speaking no. You have to show up to your monthly PT/drills and would have to be readily available within reason, being abroad for personal/private reasons for an extended period of time and missing those would put you at risk of being considered AWOL
I have a question, if you join the army reserves and you finish the basic training do you get to come home after or do you have to go to AIT ? All together what’s the time frame from basic training to you actually going back to your normal work life?
Typically you'll go to BCT, finish, and immediately after report to AIT and complete that. I graduated on a Thursday and reported the next day, but my AIT allowed a weekend pass so I didn't have to really start until after that weekend. A major exception is if you go to basic between your Junior and senior year of HS, and in that scenario you'll go to AIT after you graduate
What's That , oh okay that’s understandable thanks that was very helpful. What’s the estimated time for AIT? I no it probably depends on your job but is there maybe like a close estimate?
@@ajdaprince22 Very hard to estimate, really depends on your job. I'm an IT specialist and mine was 21 weeks. If you chose to go infantry they do OSUT which is BCT and AIT combined in one, and the whole thing was like 12 weeks including basic, but I think I've heard they changed the duration? Some AIT's can last up to a year, but you can find out how long the AIT is for each job
What's That oh okay thank you very much I really appreciate the information, I definitely will look into the duration of each jobs
Hi Matt, where do they send you for the weekend training/drill? Is it near where you live? Thanks.
Weekend sells are generally at the closest unit to you. In reserve IT WILL be in your state over out of state. Unless you desire other.
Can you make a video on the difference between active duty and reserve guard please I am trying to go reserve but do it full time I don’t want to be moving around
Reserves is only part time. You can get on orders and work there full time on a temporary basis but that's not guaranteed.
