Use a vacuum hose to put your new plugs in , it will gently guide the plugs into there location and will provide a handle to hand tighten them, then simply pull off the hose off the tip of the spark plug , just a suggestion, love your videos, you helped me fix my 07 530i n52 , thanks, DOC !
This is actually the only easy thing I have ever done on my BMW. It's accessible and the parts are easy to get from Bosch. I think at 75k miles its time to do this no matter what. All you really need is a torque wrench and spark plug socket which is very cheap.
Get your engine to top dead center on one cylinder then put the newer spark plug in that cylinder to see if it interferes with anything. If it doesn't you are fine.
Hey bmw doctor. I've Been watching your videos since before i owned a bmw . Have you considered getting a magnetic spark plug socket? I love those! Hate dealing with sperate tools and the boot getting stuck on the plug. Thanks!
I have a question. You change the ignition cores from that cylinder, where the spark plug had a bad look or from another reason. my english is not good enough and i do not understand good all the video. Thanks for answere.
Can you show us how to diagnose the other potential issues within your videos? Such as this one ☝️ I want to diy my n52 and am trying to learn how to narrow down issues, to prevent spending extra money on parts.
Man change them glow plugs every 20K TRUST ME I will be doing the same thing on my diesel EVERY 20K don't leave them in any longer then needed and let them seize in there. trust me I would recommend changing them every 20K without fail. there a headache after 100k they still will be after 20K but less risky. Yes there expensive but trust me the amount that glow plugs will cost you compared to extraction and even the time to extract glow plugs is more then it's worth to just actually replace them.
Ive got a question, i have an bmw e60 530D 54 plate. Just this morning i got in my car i out the keys in and started it up. Quickly noticed my cluster wasn’t working. I-drive and everything is working as normal but the dials are not working and the light ain’t coming on on the cluster either. Any solutions or fixes?
Doc, do you recommened preventative coil replacement after time even if you dont' have any issues? My '08 N52, only 75K/km, is on the original coils minus one which I replaced after a misfire (which it corrected). To save coin, I elected to only change the one (cyl1) coil at that time. Just wondering what you think? All six plugs were replaced when I did the coil. Thanks, Dr Dean!
The triple iridium spark plugs that you just installed are generally good for 250 to 300 thousand miles they need to be removed annually to keep them from seizing to the Head but that is what GM and Toyota have been using for two decades they don't need to be changed every 30,000 miles that's what I put in mine and you can get them from Bosch or from NGK but anyone running a platinum plug I would definitely suggest changing over cuz they outperformed the Platinum hands down
One thing to keep in mind I don't think y'all drive as much as we do which is very rare for someone to drive as much as I do because I drive 60 to 80 Thousand Miles every year and the 07 5:30 that I'm currently using by the time I get done it will probably have half a million miles on it I'm coming up on 300,000 now and yes I had to replace the CCV shit the other day because the valve was stuck and dumping oil into my intake I really do not like that design but I love this car it is an amazing machine and I will say have a 2019 550 and I prefer the 07 but I will say when I bought this car there was something off on the transmission and we put a 05 transmission in it the mount was not correct but because of what I have access to I was able to build an adapter plate cuz I have machine shop at the family-owned company that builds trailers the top that you would pull behind a pickup truck and then we also have to private machine shops that we can build about any damn thing you want I'm not the normal person but anyway I do watch most of your videos and I am vocal whenever I don't agree or at least something different maybe too vocal to be honest LOL but I do enjoy the content you put out anyway you have an amazing weekend and for whatever information this is voice to text my phone is attached to the Dash so everything I said may not be exactly what is typed thank you keep doing what you doing man

Y’all listen to Dr. Dean. Before you put the plastics back on, check and recheck all your coilpack connections. Don’t ask me how I know this. I just replace all 6 coil packs. Is there a test to see if one is operating correctly?
Respect my friend! Can you enlighten me please. I changed my spark plugs because I had cylinder 1 misfire! I change it. It read that I have a misfire in 3,4,&6 ! What changed? What happened in my case? Are the new sparks bad? Or my coils?
I don't care what BMW says, that new design is garbage. They will support another style next year or some time down the road. Never mind, electrics are taking over. My plug of choice is the NGK Iridium I-9's in Delphi coils. Just real clean burns, but I switched to plastic valve cover too. I also like having all matching coils.
Where are you based? I have a 2007 E93, engine lights comes on for a few days, then off again (i call it my self healing BMW) i know its not the case. Revs sit at 600rpm idling and cuts out alot. Dangerous when i reach roundabouts/give way. I need you to fix this for me. Where can i find you
Which brand is best for coil packs on a N52? Oem ones are old type of design I've been told updated ones are available but what ones 🤷♂️ any help would be great
One problem I ran into when changing the plugs and coils on the N52 is the new factory BMW coils fit oddly - the car sputtered and misfired like hell after the change. It turns out the new coils are stiffer material and didn't seat properly to the plugs and seal to the plug holes. Had to pre-install the coils 2 or 3 times and rotate them just right to get proper connections and eliminate the misfire.
I just replaced 3 coils this morning. It had maximum -7%ltft and now is bit lower mostly +2%, on bank 1. The other bank was low. It felt a bit smoother though. Anyway the new coils are Delphi because I look up on realoem and the oem,s are also delphi. Now I could buy an oem to see the difference idk, or buy another 3. These are 25€ and oem’s are 40.

best expert Bmw master!!
The new “recommended” plug has a much longer thread length. I’d be concerned. Can you explain why this is not an issue ?
Get your engine to top dead center on one cylinder then put the newer spark plug in that cylinder to see if it interferes with anything. If it doesn't you are fine.
I assume that is a thin wall socket? The regular size does not fit my e90. Not fun to figure out in the middle of the job...
yes thin wall. burger motorsports sells theirs for like $14
How often should I change my spark plugs and ignition coils on my bmw 325i n52 2005?

why did they switch to the single electrodes one again? lol i just changed to the multi prong.
Hi Dean,
What is your opinion of the; ‘Denso’ iridiumSpark plugs? I think mine have done over 30,000 (10 years use). Will they need changing ?
Obviously a Diesel doesn't have spark plugs, but do the glow plugs need changing after so many years to keep the acceleration up ?
