I remember hearing that all their powers are based on their position in the family. Dad: the provider and strength in the family, so he has super strength. Mom: always getting pulled in every direction, so she has elasticity. Teenager: usually feeling insecure and closed off, so she has invisibility and force fields. Little boy: lots of energy and always on the move, so he has super speed. Baby: unknown and unlimited potential, so he has all sorts of powers. I thought that was kinda cool :)

Their names also represent their powers too!For example -
      Mr.Incredible: Incredible Strength
      Elastigirl: Elasticity
Violet: Ultraviolet powers (hence the invisibility and Ultraviolet force fields)
      Dash: Super speed
And Jack Jack: Jack of all trades (This name would normally represent somebody with multiple skills and talents, hence his large variety of different powers)

fun thing to notice on rewatch - when Syndrome is telling Bob about the "I work alone" memory, Bob was there alone when in reality there was a criminal, Bomb Voyage, being dealt with. Syndrome doesn't remember that detail because he was so caught up in being denied his chance to be a hero

    • @smileyhappyface5864

Which was to prey on the fact that they were unsatisfied being bystanders when they had the power to help people. Edna lamented that she used to design for gods...meanwhile she can still slap them around and overpower them with sheer force of personality. It's not just her genius designs that keep everyone coming back to her, it's the fact that she's likely the one non-powered person who can keep up with every single one of them, and slap them down if they get too full of themselves.

“Can you even do that? How did they not through this case out?” Yes, you could sue for harm caused to someone while trying to save them during the time period that news clip was supposed to take place.
Shortly after, “Good Samaritan” laws were passed to make it so you can’t sue someone for harm caused by trying to save their lives unless their wishes not to are already known. The assumption is it is better to err on the side of saving someone than the opposite. The laws purpose is prevent stuff like that news article from happening- when people are afraid of being punished for helping people, they won’t. That still happens in some countries.

They say that Violet got her name not only due to her powers (ultraviolet and all). Before they got married, the main colors of Mr. Incredible's and Elastigirl's suits were correspondingly blue and red. And what do you get when mixing blue and red? Now that is some sensible idea

5:26 This movie gets a whole lot darker when you realize that this fire was started intentionally to test Frozone, because before Bob revivals himself to Mirage as Mr. Incredible and she goes after him, Frozon was slated to die next to the Omnidroid, because later when you see Bob going through the list of supers that Syndrome murdered with the Omnidroid it shows that they know where Frozone is due to him being the next target before they switched to Mr. Incredible, and why they don't know where Elastigirl is since they haven't started searching for her yet

This movie is one of Pixar’s best. As a kid I loved it but I didn’t understand SHIT til I became an adult. My dad says this is the best animated movie he’s ever seen because he was on the verge of a midlife crisis when it came out. Which is just amazing to me that’s the audience it was aiming for.

I was totally obsessed with this movie when I was younger. I still love it from the bottom of my heart and it's one of those movies I'll probably never truly get tired to watch. I remember once my sister and I were on vacation with our grandma and we watched it about 5 time in 2 days 😄
Also I was so confused because I watched it as a kid in german and they changed the fast kid's name there into "flash" so I was like "why is everyone calling him 'Dash'?" 😅😆

The good Samaritan law which protects people from lawsuits when they’re trying to help did not exist when this movie takes place. There is a very good episode of film theory that explains a lot of this. I was surprised as well that the good Samaritan law is as recent as it is. Thus, the precedent the movie sets about why superheroes stopped is 100% plausible.

This was the first Pixar movie where I actually felt real tension and worry for the characters. This was a whole new level for Pixar. Brad Bird is a genius. He managed to cover so many family issues in this one, while cloaking it in a ridiculously fun story that feels legitimately dangerous with a villain you actually really hate.
All these massively powerful and super courageous super heroes are absolutely terrified of little tiny Edna. It is pure comedic genius.

What's amazing about Syndrome is how realistic he is. True, he took it to the extreme of madness, but the dissatpointment, losing the huge childhood belief in heroes, in someone you admire deeply, is heartbreaking and hurts deep. And I think most of us have experienced something similar. You can relate, and Mr. Incredible realises his mistake, but it's late, "15 years late". True, he was a young hero, and Incrediboy was a bit too much, but many kids are! It's so easy for adults to dismiss children not thinking of the pain they may cause, making it something small, forgetting they were kids once, and they did the same.
That's why Syndrome's final goal makes total sense: make everyone Super, so no one will be (and the fact Dash mentions it earlier is brilliant "we are all super in our own way" "that's another way to say no one is"). He dreamed to become a superhero ever though he wasn't born with super powers, but was rejected by his hero. Of course, his actions are wrong and evil and escalate from bad to worse, but his motifs and context are understandable and relatable. That makes him a great villain, or super villain.

I just had a thought. Despite thinking his family was murdered and feeling all of that rage, he still didn’t kill her. That to me is more proof than anything else that he’s done that he’s a genuinely really good person. He had the chance to take revenge against the murders for the insane amount of grief and rage he was feeling but he didn’t. He really is Mr. Incredible 🥰

21:23 Basically Buddy/Syndrome’s downfall was to make every machination or well the robot here to be controllable ONLY by him with the only remote he designed that easily got lost the moment he lost control of his own bot. Syndrome could’ve still gone for the remote if he didn’t pass out that easily, his zero-point energy & rocket boots makes him a fairly flight agile & melee fighter to easily throw objects or people around with ease just fine. If he regained consciousness earlier, he would’ve gotten back the remote easily & STILL b able to get the robot back in line despite how smart it is; the robot clearly went ALL the way to retrieve it cuz it calculated & it’s aware it’s the only tool that can SERIOUSLY hamper its agency without outright shutting down or destroying it (or it prolly has the self-destruct button in the event that Buddy wants to “vanquish” the robot threat in his charade plan)
The bot went on to trigger its own self-destruct when it’s heart got ripped out prolly in a protocol in case Buddy isn’t there to properly “dispose” the bot when it’s in a serious damaged state, to not allow government officials to find out it’s been rigged from the start.

Fun fact: The Incredibles is a Randian parable, a super-hero spin on her famous novel Atlas Shrugged. Mr. Incredible, who visually represents Atlas himself several times throughout the film when he bears the Orb-Bot on his shoulders, is the story's 'John Gault', an exceptional individual who finds himself tied down and hamstrung by the mediocre masses, forcing him into hiding while a nefarious villain seeks to make exceptional abilities available to everyone, so that 'when everyone's super, no one will be!'
The message of the film is clear: let the exceptional be exceptional, and let not the petty concerns of the mediocre masses hold them back.
Rand is a popular thinker, particularly among the wealthy/anyone who considers themselves exceptional.

Actually, Jack-Jack's powers were hinted at when Helen/Elastigirl listens to the voice mail on the phone while on the drive home, she hears Kari getting more and more freaked out and at the end she says "Your baby has "special needs." meaning he has super powers. If you want to see how this came to be, watch the short Jack-Jack Attack which can be found on The Incredibles DVD and Bluray and on DIsney+.
