Happy mother's day to all the moms, mine included. My apologies for no uploads the last 5 weeks. The podcast still has new episodes every Sunday on this channel, the vlog will start rolling out these railway hotel travel vlogs in June / July then back to the regular hockey programming you've come to expect. Thank you and leave a comment if you need anything from me, I'll get back to ya soon! :)
I remember watching the Kings tryout a couple years back and always wondered what happened to you. Sad to see it didn't work out how you wanted, but as long as ur doing something u love ur doing better than most. Good luck man
If you can make a living playing hockey and doing youtube/media when you combine the income of both, then you are in a lucky position. Many amateur hockey players would like to earn enough from hockey to be able to live a normal life. Plus you get to see a lot of the world and meet great people. It's really not worth quit playing even if you don't reach the top.
I think the money aspect is 95% of the problem for most guys and it seems to have been solved so I can keep playing and doing what I love, sharing it with you, and building off of that! Thanks for watching man :)
Love your videos and podcast, Trav. Great fan here, but you have to stop promoting your big size and cool looking in front of the camera, and focus more on your technique and speed if you want to get the scouts' attention. You do really look like a big guy in front of the net, and that puts the spotlight over your head. Lots of goalies jealously dream of your size. But your ability is the most important thing as a former (or still) elite player and I would strongly suggest you to not give up and focus 100% on that ONLY from now on. Trust me if you can do that, lots of opportunities will come. Best of luck.
Of course, ability is the most important aspect and we are playing to my strengths within that ecosystem and learning along the way. From the outside, what do you seee as looking cool on camera? Constructive feedback is always welcomed!
Trav - thanks for the video - it's great to see you posting. Though I know playing hockey is your passion, I do feel like you have real talent for media. As a beer league goalie myself, I've always loved your channel since finding it - you're someone that I look up to. And while breaking into professional hockey might be a challenge, there's something around media that I think you should keep in mind, too, should you ever decide to pivot into a new direction! The content here is really good, and I wanted you to know that. :)
Thank you man, and hopefully this railway hotels series showcases my ability to craft that story and skillsets in a series when it starts at the end of next month. Can't wait to share with you!
I think Matthews ended a lot of goalie dreams. To be clear, this isn't a Matthews is the greatest, fanboy stuff. Goaltending was for years very much about prediction. Be in the right spot, know the play, know where to be and know when a player is going to pass and when they are going to shoot. Matthews changed all that and not because of what he can do, but because of what he taught others to do. There's a lot of players in the show you can't predict, that goes out the window. Sure prediction is still a part of the game, but now it's more important to be able to react. That's gotta be a huge shift. I would bet that a lot of guys who were really good at reaction but not as much able to predict have switched places with the prediction guys on who is looking at them and they are being looked at a lot more seriously. I could be wrong though. I'm very interested in what people who know think about that.
i’m happy you’ve been on a self improvement journey, but have you ever thought about turning to Jesus for healing and direction? He is the ultimate healer, and He is the way, the truth, and the life:) God bless trav!
A very few make it to the show, but the love for the game should never go away just because you don’t get to put on an NHL jersey. The only thing we can do is keep playing, even if nobody is watching it’s still better than nothing.
Hey trav, just watched you goalie hacks, because i started in the net 1,5 years ago. 😂 But 35 years to late. I play hockey as a Hobby and my teammates say i'm better in goal than on the ice. Hey Trav, I'm new to your channel and impressed with your recovery. Im dealing with hip issue myself. I saw a arthroscopic hip specialist at Henry Ford Hosp in Detroit. I was hopeful that I might be fortunate and get my hip fixed arthroscopically. Dr Lynch was very honest with me and after looking at my Xrays that he really couldnt offer me any help arthroscopically. He said after 50 years of playing hockey i was going to need total hip replacement and, referred me to a replacement doc. I played AA and AAA at Fraser as a kid starting in the 70s whoa right! Then, played Jr B in the Great Lakes League (now the USHL) for 2 years before trying out as a walk on at UofM in A2. Funny story I skated in summer league in Grsse Pte with half the UM team on my squad and, they tried get me in as 20 yr old transfer student. It was longshot but looking better bc the asst coach in Ann Arbor (1980) was Jeff Jackson (now headcoach at Notre Dame) who had been my Midget coach. Got close to that dream but then was cut. PS not to name drop but name drop anyway (a few years prior to my summer league with the Michigan boys) a very young (summer before he signed with the Soo) Johnny VanBiesbrock was our goalie.
