Hey Stan, you should make a video about where exactly insurance carriers invest your money to make enough return to pay you back in the future.

Life insurance companies are 100% capitalized for annuities. Mostly Bonds in real estate.

You are correct that you should not chase interest rates when buying annuities, but YES, they DO have an impact on what you payout will be. I just took the lump sum pension from an old job, and bought an immediate life 20 year certain joint annuity two weeks ago, to start collecting 7/1/23. The monthly payout will be $627 a month. Friday, 1 1/2 weeks later, because Fed bond yields have gone up, that same annuity would pay $641. Not a massive increase, but rhese payout rates have been increasing this year, right along with the bond yields. My life expectancy didn't change drastically during those 10 days!

Does the immediate life 20 year certain joint annuity have a "Free Look" period so that you can cancel it and update to the higher rate? That is $3,360.00 overall for shuffling a little paperwork! IF YOU ARE NOT OUTSIDE THE FREE LOOK PERIOD.

Isn’t the payout rate partly a return of principal plus interest rate?

Let's be honest here. If you are lear jetting it to hang with Mick and the Stones, all your dough is in a Trust. But I love payout rates for those us that sleep out on the sidewalks for tickers back in the 70s

He makes it seem that interest rates mean nothing. But a 65 year old buying a SPIA this year makes more per month than a 65 year old last year did. So it does seem to have some effect on lifetime income.
