I love you trying out all the good Pauper stuff for X-Mas, I also love the shout out for apass, He's a really nice guy, and definitely THE most dedicated person pushing that archetype through the last months. Pro tip: the game vs bogles where you were playing out the defenders to make more mana-per-tap, you could just play out the Drifts all the same :)
I may have just bought 90% of the deck JPN foil... (it was too cheap, I had too...) Yeah, apass72 is great & understood. Thanks for being a member all this time - cycle storm forever!
@@TheEPICStorm Saw the list and it's super close to the one I started of last time. At that time, the key was more good early mana against kuldotha, now I am considering going back to it (faster against affinity)
I haven't looked at the moxfield list yet so sorry if this is on this, but maybe try out tinder wall. I have found it very nice for getting over the line in many games
I'll always wait around if it's possible to fizzle but as soon as I'm deterministically dead, I concede. It's just the nice thing to do and you're unlikely to win by timeout anyway. Concede people!
I like a regular mana dork instead of the sower, because i dont get to play 3 drop on t2 often enough. Which prob isnt as important as i think. Or even windimg way with a 1 land hand on t2.
Really enjoyed this "blast from the past'" for me, walls was the first pauper combo deck that I fell in love with around the time Caleb Gannon built early versions of it. Also, apass is a true gentleman. You were initiated into the brotherhood with an early "curse of the winding way" (0 cards drawn) although it was not the worst version, sometimes it literally kills you if you dump reaping, pulse, LTS, freed or something along those lines xd A little background on a couple of the cards you were critical of in the video, not that you're wrong, but I want to give some historical context so you can make changes with more info: grizzly- it excels where you are short on action but have a lot of mana (not infinite though) as it can grind you out of a stall jaspera- critical vs fae, historically a challenging MU rift sower- this is in a slot historically occupied by an elf, sometimes a G producer, sometimes deep shadow, sometimes Avacyn's Pilgrim (depending on board choices). I think the logic is that non G mana can often be a choke point, particularly post board and therefore is worth the chunkiness; additionally, it dodges the 2 damage sweepers and fumes. My point is that it's not really seen as a drift target encampment- more counted as a dork than a land as far as deckbuilding is concerned, IK you had a feel bad moment with it, but 13 land builds have been common over the course of the decks development rubblefort- 2 could likely work well, there have been successful variants that run 3 (mostly in cascade versions) I look forward to seeing what you come up with :) One little gameplay recommendation: I'd default to holding onto Leafcaller a lot more often, it keeps it protected from removal and allows you to win partially from hand when a window. opens And finally, hit me up on discord (as I've rambled on long enough) if you want some thoughts on time saving strategies while comboing, it's actually really unlikely to time out, particularly with some small refinements. Happy holidays!
Cool to see this deck represented, I think one reason to play grizzly is it can't be hydroblasted, and personally I like having the redundancy of multiple win cons in addition to the tutors but the deck is flexible enough to try different things
Hey Bryant. I completely fell in love with this deck as well and I' ve started playing it in practice. But may I ask you where did you get the sideboard guide from because for this exact deck I don't seem to find it anywhere. Thanks in advance!
I always thought Walls was a sweet deck for Pauper. I was sad to see it leave the meta for a while, but I'm glad to see it picking up steam again. I might have to make it the next deck I try to complete in paper. I think I'm too slow on MTGO to win with it.
Wow what a nice deck! i fell in love instantly! apass must be the nicest person in the community! i am jsut getting started on pauper, can we get the sideboard notes? is there a way i can contact apass ?
11:35 i'm a player of wall and to be honest at this point i wouldn't get Freed, because it was not guaranteed you would go off, you could have wifed on the lts, i would prefer to at it in the next turn, but nice win anyway
If grizzly is good enough for this deck try playing Third Path Savant. It's much better as a sink. Dark dwelling oracle made moggwarts over the top at one point being able to draw your entire deck. Food for thought. Dropping secret door for savant would make this much less click intensive for online. Keep invoker as the win con. You can also add niche plays with a single foil to protect the invoker (if you draw your deck before dropping invoker) I do agree with you Mr Brian, I'm not an expert at this deck but some of the cards to look cutable and tuk tuk needs at least one more copy! Cheers!
From what Im told is Grisely is to protect from blasts, but my overall concern is this decks mana curve is really high. Adding in another 3 mana value card doesn't fix this. I posted my list to Moxfield! Ps. My name is Bryant.
@@TheEPICStorm Commune w Gods hits Creature or Enchantment, tho You just miss out on hitting lands, which seems less important given how much enchantment ramp is in the deck
@@bricknolty5478 I’m not in a position to argue why the stock list plays what it does, but I’d trust the community running it. You have a single enchantment you’re trying to hit. I believe being able to collect up multiples is more important than the odds of trying to hit a singleton.
@@bricknolty5478 you did not read the cards carefully. commune with gods: look at first five cards, choose ONE creature or enchantment, put it in hand. winding way: choose creature or lands, look at the first four cards, put EVERY card of the type chosen in hand. so...commune with gods = draw 1, winding way = draw 0-4 (probably at least 2 or 3 most of the time since you run 10 sorceries 14 lands and 36 creatures)
