Best teacher. + pure passion. The Brian Cox of turntablists
I'd really like to see more videos like this one. There are way too many 'this is how you do a flare, transform etc etc... Not enough turntablist explaining how they are putting their vibe together.
YES Parafinn Lamp YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!
Parafinn Lamp ...exactly!! I noticed at the expo that many who scratch are very different when I had b4 believe our way was the same
good god I wish I had the money to get personal lessons from Rob on scratching.
Legendary guy with legendary tips. That's great Rob. Props from Spain.
Props from New York Mesh, via Colombia!
This is the most useful scratch tutorial video I've seen. One Love!
Loved it!! Thanks Rob! Trying to perfect my skills and your one of my all time favs on the turntables!! Iconic!
Another awesome & in depth video from an all time great. Always inspired by you! Much appreciated Rob and thank you for always taking the time to educate us and share your knowledge and wisdom with us. Also for preserving this culture, and staying true to your roots. Salute!
Rest In Peace forever legend DJ Trap and graffiti artist Soe aka the Kodak Kid

supreme93ntm My pleasure. Glad you could take something away from the video.
thanks Rob I am a beginner (3 years)and find your scratching and teaching truly inspirational. Im following your ig and love the clips you put together with Sinista. The way you speak with your hands is dope. I keep putting work in and see slow gains. Kind regards and best wishes Sir 🙌❤
nice video. Thanx for dropping that knowledge Rob. Great insight on to how to work on flow. I learn a few new tricks to improve my cuts.
This is so perfect lesson.
Interesting take on the 'scratch rhyming'! Glad DJ's like Rob are keeping the art of scratching fresh, because I have to admit, as much as I love scratching, too many dj's i've heard, lack variety and innovation.
Props to Rob and all at the Scratch Academy!
Peace

Great pointers for beginners and experts alike
I just recently came across this and again - Rob Swift is the man. Check out his Brolic Army if you want to get to the next level
Rob Swift is the man
My favourite dj with d styles
Rob I've been a scratchin since I was 18. I'm 36 I learned how to scratch before I leaned how to mix. I've totally been hamsterring the whole time.(basically because my fader wouldn't cut any more on the right side when I was learning) Around 97-98 you really evolved. Your juggles were always (and still are) mad dope. You can tell that you definitely put in some work to step your scratching game up . I watched the 98 tour video countless times (scratching what is it ) was a great example of your effort. Do you think it would be more beneficial If I learned how to cut normal style? I feel like I might have to back to the basics.
Cheers, Robert.
RESPECT! ✊🏾
Preach!
Rob thanks for this in depth tutorial I really appreciate it! It helped me rhythmically when I'm scratching. Just staying in the pocket kinda like a 70's soul bass player lol! Yea-yea-yeee-ah booooi. 🤩
OG SKRATCHING rite there, this guy kicks fukn ass!! Shout out to you guys, y'all are so appreciated, on some real shit tho!! Thanx for your video Rob, your awesome, & interesting, as always. Your appreciated, & I look forward to gettn better, & utilizing all these skills y'all are teaching. Respex, Big Upz, & Mad Love to the DJ's. Its really cool that your talking about using your passion,& inner soul, & implementing it into our skratching, rather then just simply goin by technique,& schoolbook scratching,& following these steps or different skratches, like mirroring someone else. Instead, I believe you mean to basically putting your own style & finesse into your approach, & basically have fun! Lol... Yeah, thats rite, have fun,& maybe you mite sound good, maybe not,but at least having fun is very important to me, I can't exactly speak for everyone, but thats partly why I got into learning skratching,& how to do certain skratches. But, I wicked liked how you said that. Cause its very important to have fun while skratching, plus, I strongly believe that will also help with learning & utilizing all the different routines,& skills involved in da game...... 👍🙏😎🥁📀🎚️🎧🎼🎶🎵🎛️
Much Respect ! homie d+.+b
Legendary!!!!

R.I.P. Roc Raida ...
Good samples I can use in Serato to scratch on?
Really ready to go but these scratches are like scratching my head and patting my belly or visa versa. Is there any drills to help with the difficulty level? Thanks.
Good to see real vinyl used for a change
Bruh a genius
How Much is skratch a
Skool? Definitely would love to get involved, for sure. I just finished modifying my portable Reloop Spin Portable Turntable, with a metal platter from "Solid Cutz", Jessie Dean tonearm, from"Jessie Dean Designs", & Mini Innofader Pro-SP, from "Innofader ". So now that I've got my portable where I'd like it to be, now I feel like I can take my practicing serious, ya know, & im really trying to learn this from the best, & you, & everyone at the academy are amazing skratch DJ's, & artists, with never-ending skills for DayZ. And also Qbert, & the Incredible Skratch Pickles, also, as well, plus, Mixmaster Mike, & many other amazing DJ's, as well. I've been trying to self teach myself, with these videos as my teacher, & my own space, & Portable Turntable, as my class & skool work, ya know. Lol.... Bahahaha.... But yea man, I'm not brand new at this, I've been involved for a few years now, trying to learn this correctly, to where I'm happy with the results that im gettn, but just aint there quite yet! Id like to join the academy someday, but, does this seem like a good way for me to learn, for now, where im not actually in a school for it technically?? Thanx man, just looking for tips from the pros, & advice from the prophets..... Much Love, Big Upz, & Mad Respex!!.... 👍🙏😎🥁📀🎚️🎧🎼🎶🎶🎛️
he laughed at the end because it was just kidding with us.
You get me. For that I am thankful!
impossible subtitling, my English is not high level.
Can you add the subtitle option (I'm French 🇫🇷) ?
Thank you for your work....
'One day you might be as good as me' You gotta love his modesty......
Its WELL deserved though...
He was laughing when he said that..Chill dude
djflashb you get me!
Eric Swanson I was just being silly man.. LOL. Thanks for the love!
I'm British and full of sub-text. Of course I knew he was joking. Keep up the good work Rob :-)
If one can't put these diffrent scratches together then you have shill but no real voice. I get it. It all makes sense now
What's the first tune he scratches to?
Now, when im practicing, wich obviously I'm very new at this, I usually just listen to the beat that im feeling at that moment, & sort of just freestyle it, & try different techniques, trying not to focus so much on technicalities, & exact ways of doing things. Lol... Is that not good that I learn that way alot, or should I seriously count beats, & stay on count?? Not gonna lie, I've never approached skratching with counting, in all honesty. Ive usually just skratched what I enjoy hearing, & what I seem to be gettn better with, & then try mixing it up, & changing it up, but I naturally seem to wanna go with the beat, & obviously, it probably sounds better to me, cause its myself, but, is this a bad way to learn & practice, or whats your input on this my friend, thanx a bunch Rob, your the man, & your very appreciated, as always....... 👍🙏😎🥁📀🎚️🎚️🎵🎼🎛️
This is fine. This is how I learned as well, you naturally just learn to scratch with the beat, almost as if not realizing it.
@@Mace2124 thanx my friend.... 👍💪🙏
Anyone have a good solution to create sticky hands without needing to lick your fingers every 3 minutes?
is he incorparating trasformers in to his scratches?
Hi Rob Swift my name is Raheem Cornwell aka Dj Rah C from Rock Hill South Carolina I'm 23 and I been learning how to Dj since DJ hero 1 came out from the Game to the Real turntables the first scratch i learn was the baby scratch, the tranform all of it.I scratch very good with my right hand but not my left hand. How can i scratch good with my left hand as my right hand?
+DJ Rah.C Yo, Rah, the answer to learning to scratch with your left hand, is practice!
It might sound simple, and hard at the same time. Naturally, as with writing, we're going to be stronger with one hand over the other. A lot of dj's are better with one hand over the other, but they either practice so that they can perform strong with both, or they find ways to get around not using the weaker hand for performing scratches. Also, its not just the scratching that you would have to work on. You also have to train your strong scratching hand to use the fader.
In the end, find what works best for you. Peace.
Thanks Man I learned how to scratch with my left hand 2 months ago and it is doing fine it's ok to mess up never stop. Just keep going til you get it right
For real B! I'm still learning to scratch with my right hand as good as I can with my left (my situation is the opposite!). Good to hear its coming together!
Peace
hey bro 3 years later haha...i put one night of practice in on the left hand, next night on the right, third night-juggles!!! getting better . we talkin bout practice :)

yes sir! Rob Swift
+Rob Swift Hey Rob, I'd love to see a video on the best scratch techniques that work with vocals, the vocal cutting you were doing at the beginning of the video was super funky. Is it in the swing of the scratch, or the scratches you chose to include? Peace, from Australia!
yo Rob Swift has NO EYE BROWS under his hat
👍👍👍👍
