    Would love to see a revisit to a project like this. The one step I have started to use no matter what product I am using on a tub/shower to to apply a bonding primer before whichever product I want to use. Though a pour on solution is extremely thick, all other solutions are so thin that without that bonding primer they will all come off.

    Egads! I tried using spray epoxy at the cottage... gave up before I choked to death... so I went out and purchased Verathane Colors in Plastic...painted it on with a brush... it's still great, 20 years later!! Never peeled or flaked off. I had nothing to lose.. it's a cottage.

    Chris I been there and done that, I used it on a property I purchased to rehab and sell. It had an ugly green shower exactly the same as you just painted. What a pain in the neck. I ended up spraying the whole thing, I had drip marks, orange peel, you name it, but over all it looked 90% better than it did. Those spray cans aren't any good to spray with, they spit out blotches etc, make it harder for us. I was thinking, if we bought it in the can rather than the spray cans, and we put it in an airless sprayer and shot it, I would think it would come out like a professional, especially with you, you are a professional and awesome painter. FYI I love all of your videos, you've taught me so much. There was a time when I totally hated to paint, now I enjoy it because of you and you explanations, and hands on videos. Thank you for taking the time to make these videos for us.

      Got a question to ask
      I think I made a mistake spraying a bathtub with gelcoat
      It’s from a supplier called Lilly Ram. It’s a thinned out gel coat that drove me crazy, probably because I didn’t know what to do totally, I mean I was a Little nervous spraying.
      In your tub experience is gelcoat a bad thing to spray? It did orange peel on me, I figured it’s just the nature of gelcoat, idk but I’m really upset cause I have to sand it down, rookie mistake I guess

    • @aprillabbe3938
      @aprillabbe3938 Год назад

      Seems gel would have a problem adhering to the slick surface. Did you clean and sand and prep it all properly before the gel ? If you can run your hand across the surface and “ feel “ stuff you will see it once your done and it won’t let the new stuff stick. The gel could have been bad and started humming up. Think stick to paint and a foam
      Roller so it doesn’t leave gritty brush strokes unless that’s the kind of look your going for.

    Question for y'all. I tried this system on a similar setup like you have but the end result turned out to be a little bit gritty. Is there anything you think I did wrong to create that texture? I used the spray cans I cleaned it well followed the directions but the end result was like very fine sand paper. Anyway thanks so much for taking the time to do this painting process! I have an apartment and not supposed to do this but my shower has stains and it won't come clean it drives me insane! Honestly if I do it he won't even notice cause he could care less as long as it doesn't make it worse! I hope I can pull it off! Let you know..Thanks Obviously your a Professional painter but you were painting one wall then you'd jump to the floor then back to wall without finishing one whole wall first do you recommend painting like that is there a reason cause I thought you pain in order on whole wall at a time!

      @inthelandofmorethansmall7582 8 месяцев назад

      Yeah I'm not so sure this dudes a Professional, tbh...
      I'm not saying he hasn't had a lot of experience painting stuff.
      But babysitting doesn't make you an expert parent.
      And knowing First Aid doesn't make you a Nurse, ya know? 😂😂
      I definitely agree that you should ALWAYS follow the instructions that come with any product (even if you think you know better, there's probably a reason for them to say what they say and send what they send... 🤷🏼‍♀️🤣) and I also know that you should spray either side to side or up and down in constant sprays, never skipping around...
      And always work from top to bottom.
      But as it's been a year or more since your post, my bet is you already know all this. ❤❤❤

Orange peel finish, and yes, fish eyes !! I’ve touched the fish eyes up, and it looks better. But, i used the frog tape on it so i could do a nice calking job,,, but guess what?? It pulled some of the new tub paint off !!😢 but, busting up the old iron tub to put in a new one was out of the question. Now, I’m afraid to paint the surround. It’s just plastic tub surround. I’m wondering if i could sand down the orange peel finish, and use an air gun for a smoother finish.. any thoughts on that ?? Thank you, Cindy

    • @aprillabbe3938

      You can use oil based on slick surfaces it’s actually recommended. Otherwise it will “ slip off”.
      Wash the surface , sand , wipe clean add oil base primer let dry then use a good low nap for oil base paints to apply. Light coat then go back with second to clean up the holidays and make it a finished look. Well ventilate and possibly wear mask oil base isn’t alway pleasant. And once you use that roller it’s pretty much done. Need another for the next time.

    You don't know if you don't try. We have tried several products over the years with our rental properties. Mixed results. None were great. Still cheaper than replacing for tenants who just don't care anyway. Sorry it didn't go well.

    They definitely lie about the coverage of those cans. I did the exact same thing. Used 2 cans on the first coat. It would take 5 or 6 cans to cover a shower tub properly. Spray tips were junk. I used the brush on to finish. Eh....

      Don't blame u. Have watched guys do the tub, tile and sink. Using a very low pressure sprayer with a cup gun. Can't believe the quality is nearly as good as a baked finish. But ur right, id never do it with anything nice. Maybe an inexpensive cup gun from harbor freight or something. Your probably right not to want to. Take care

    This spray product is never used on RUclips videos correctly. The spray is really meant for smaller repairs or awkward spaces that are also small like maybe a sink. You definitely want to use the roll on method with any tub. If you're meticulously clean and you wait a full 3 hours in between each coat with at least three coats this product works pretty well. I have done over seven tubs with it and the only issue it has is when you do not remove that caulking or contaminants by scraping or sanding first.

    • @MrPelletty

      @@austin0360 I charge 350 for a standard tub with no significant damages. If there are dents, rust or pitting it goes up a bit. $400 for a fiberglass tub where the back and tub are one. $700 if the Tub and tile surrounding the 3 walls of the tub.

    only rookies use spray cans and brushes. to paint bath tubs. use a microfiber roller. or a spray rig. for good finishes....

      @peterford9369 7 лет назад

      kevin gregory The pro refinishers used low pressure guns with an epoxy that is supposed to work but finish has only a five year warranty. I believe there is nothing like baked on enamel factory finish. No air dried finish stands up to soap scum and human abuse.
