I don't even engrave I just find your skills and art very interesting and enjoyable to watch I've always found engraving amazing
It's beautiful ,inspiring and never boring to watch craftsmanship and mastery of the art form. The end results is fit for a king.
I have been watching gunsmiths ply their skills all week and realize that is another skill that is beyond my range. I am going to watch how beds are made next week and maybe I can become a tester.
YEAHYA!!!! Sooooo stoked for a new video of yours!!!!
honestly, videos like this is all we need. Those classes help, but most forget most of it once they get home. Plus, learning the basics is really all that can be taught. We build from there on our own. Thank you for this. Nothing worse than spending 80 bucks for a short video on something we could figure out once we put time in under the graver.
Fist Pump while I do make videos I also tell people that you can’t learn Hand Engraving from RUclips. There is so much more that goes into this art form that can’t be passed on in a 20 min video. These will help those who are already getting some form of formal instruction. A good mentor can help you cut years off the learning curve.
@@MasterEngraverTV I agree. This is really helpful for folks in my shoes with couple years experience. I had Brian Marshall for a 3 day course in the beginning but the only thing i took from it was how to properly hold the engraver and get a jist of how to cut.
@@fistpump5485 another thing is the more you learn the more you see.... When I go back and refer to some engraving technique I learned in the beginning of my career I always see things I didn't the first time. Or I always have a better and different understanding of how and why something is done. Tough to explain. I'd bet that if you took that same class with Brian again now you'd come out with new ideas and a better understanding of certain things. And it's those details that begin to take you to the next level.
@@savestheday258 theres no way I would spend 600 bucks on another class with him... Im sure if i found a proper instructor. But Brian ruined it for me. I have the basics.. I know most of the stuff I need to know could be researched on youtube or I can get the proper instruction from Steve Lindsay. I helps for free.
@@fistpump5485 ah that's sad to hear you didn't have a good experience with Brian's class. Never fun to spend money on something you weren't happy with. Aside from that though I only meant that even going back and watching tutorials from the past that I've already learned, I always pick up on something I hadn't before. And sometimes there's things I've learned or READ that click the 2nd and 3rd time around. I always though oh I'll buy this tutorial on DVD so I can resell it later if I need. But I don't plan on doing that anymore because I feel they are still valuable if I open my eyes and pay attention. That's just me though. 💭
Really inspiring demonstration. Inheritance-Engraver. 👍✨️
Layne- thanks for taking the time to create these videos. While there is quite a bit of info out there on inlays, it is very helpful to see detailed video demonstrating the process. Much appreciated
Mesmerising!

Very nice! Great video production value too. Looking forward to more of the fundamental videos you teased. Thanks for sharing!
Awesome! I have so much to learn
Outstanding!
Thanks for your time and instruction it was very useful. I learned some things I was not doing and needed to do to get my gold to adhere to the steel. Thanks again.
Beautiful work friend
Wow , beautiful , your a great artist ...
Great work 👌🏽👍🏼… hope you continue to make more video like this one …
Thanks for sharing just a snippet of what's in your mind. Its incredible to you work. Give me a hole new appreciation for the trade. God bless you and your this holiday season..
great videos - wish i found these years ago
awesome skills thank you for sharing
You have sparked an interest in me and for that I truly thank you! Phenomenal work Sir, it’s without a doubt an art form. Thanks for sharing it with us.
Looks easy, showcases how well you have mastered the art of engraving.
Hello.Thank you for your work. Greetings from Siberia.
I just watched all your videos engraving the gun and am fascinated! Really makes me wanna start engraving. Thanks for the videos and good job! 👍
Thank *you* for sharing.
Reminds me a lot of the Damascene technique. Though a little different, but the same concept of "velcro" for metal. Great instructional video.
Very cool, you rock.
i m so envious!
Just great work ..merry Christmas..
thank you very much!
I'm unlikely to ever engrave anything, but I've been watching your stuff since you helped out Alec Steele, and fwiw, I am looking forward to seeing the finished 1911. Very nice handgun, and you are doing a beautiful job on it. It is always a joy to watch a person who is a master at their craft/art. Thumbs up, and looking forward to the next one.
You sir are a ture master
Hahaha some of these comments. I love learning this. Just getting into it, it's fascinating. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us!
I hope you make a bunch of vids thanks.
Nice man
Awesome ty
Thanks to You!!!!!!!!
Muchas Gracias!!!!!!!
Gold will cold weld at room temperature if enough pressure is added to it I think that's what happens when the wire is butted up next to each other.. either way I wish I had this level of knowledge and technique that you have.. many years of practice.
Amazing workmanship, I always have had a fascination with engraving, one of my relatives is a FEGA Master Engraver (Aaron "Duke" Pursley). My father has a knife made by him I hope he passes on to me.
Really love your work. Saving up to get you to do a 1911 with an Australian coat of arms and a NSW flour (waratarh) gold inlay naturall, with scroll work. Happy to pay double so you can go above and beyond and deliver a one off master peace.
Daniel Atkins sounds like a fun project!
My dad always said " a true master makes his craft look too easy". Obviously you pass sir! Great video
ok i'm ready to start carving up granddad's prized 1911! unfortunately all i have is a rusty nail and the backside of an old hatchet, but i think i can handle it. just kidding of course. your videos are very informative and interesting to watch, and i see why engraving is so expensive.
About to start a new job in a jewelers workshop. This is what i hope to bring to the company's future.
Tez just remember that you must have a Federal Firearms License to take in a gun for engraving. Not worth risking a federal offense.
@@MasterEngraverTV very true. However I just meant engraving in general. But thanks for the heads up as well. Love your work my friend.
Again, thank you for these videos and sharing your amazing talent! I've made most of my own tools now and they are working amazing. Thank you so much! I do have one question, what type of toolbar you making for burnishing?
fantabulous work! Where do we get the gold wire? I am definitely going to do this. Thank you for your wonderful videos!
❤️👍 Amazing Beautiful ART 👌 Work 👍 This Skill it's A God 🙏 Gift for Sure 👌❤️
Layne...does the stippling have enough tooth to hold the gold down much or is it more the undercut doing the work? I really like the idea of doing the outline before setting the gold. Nice work.
Can you give me the best source to buy the gold wire and the specs of the wire you use? Thank You! Dave
Please how long this masterpiece inlay takes. How much is the price of its studs only, without counting the price of the weapon. Thank you very much, Professor
I understand that GRS equipment is the some of the best. But that being said is there a powered honer for my gravers that is entry level. 450$ just for the honing wheel?
😍😍😍
hello, can I substitute gold for copper when practicing inlays? Thank you!
Would any of these techniques work on carbon steel knives, I ask only because I dont know what the composition of gun steel is .
Long time no see
What gauge is that? Great work
You don’t have to put any size down before the gold is laid?
Thank you for answering me master, another cuestion,
How do you do to weld or stick the gold in the steel?????
El gallo decente the process is too long to describe to you. That’s why I made this video that explains how it’s done.
Master Engraver TV thank’s Master, the problem is that i do not speak english, excuse me master, thank’s again and congratulations your work, its amazing !!!
@@elgallodecente1472 el pone el oro en una superficie aspera y el corta un canal bajo alrededor del borde
Sorry if thats a bad translation buena suerte!
On a side not I do understand that it not possible to acquire master level skills in a twenty minute video. In my area there is nobody to earn this craft from. I do appreciate your videos and I'm interested in any training material that you have.
Do you still engrave??? I want my Colt 1911 engraved and plated!
I’m here because of @alecsteele
I would love to see some of your more unique designs especially animals. Also think it would be amazing to see a design with all the ornate scrollwork and leaves etc with a Bigfoot in it
I meant to add what an amazing artist I think you are 👍
What did you use to cut your layout lines?
Is that just ink in the stipple portion ? How is it so black ?
Post scriptum, I like to think that a couple of the bills I have in my pocket as my father's hand on it.
It looks like the gold is being melted, if not melted how is it being smoothed out
👍👏👏👏👏👏
Thanks for sharing your knowledge sir. Only 24 k gold? 22 k will be ok? it could have more variety of colors that can be used for more interesting designs.
If you look at the photo of the top of the slide you'll see 3 different colors of gold in the inlay of the FEGA Shield. Less than 22k becomes hard to inlay
I'm a airbrusher and glass etcher and I do pretty detailed work not like yours but my father was an engraver for the government and never told me what he did because apparently it was against the law to tell me what he did but on his DD-214 lists occupation as engraver I kick myself now for not learning more about it
He passed in his mid-90s and like the gentleman and Men of Honor he was he took that secret to his grave
How Mach !?????
can you do this with copper ?im using copper wire. 🤔
Hell yeah you can. Any metal should work. Copper is a little harder, so maybe requiring a deeper trap.
Do you recommend any good sites on engraving guns and steel?
Ese Clavo the Engravers Cafe is a great resource. Just be aware it’s populated mostly by professional engravers. Use the search feature when you can. Consider joining the guild. More info st www.fega.com Also be aware of federal laws regarding gun engraving. Visit the BATF website to read the Federal Firearms License requirements. You’ll need an FFL to legally engrave guns.
Master, it is bronze the metal added in the lines???
El gallo decente it’s pure gold. That’s why it’s titled raised gold inlay.
The hammer and stipple tool. Is that the same as your engraver?
Richard C. Quecke I use a GRS GraverMax. All gravers, stipple tools and hammering tools are ones that I shape and insert into quick change collets that fit the GRS handpiece.
@@MasterEngraverTV ahhh, i thought so but wasnt 100%. Thank you very much. I've been a tattooer since 02'. And our jobs have alot of parallels. I really enjoy what you do.
Would this work with copper instead of gold?
I guess so. Cu is also soft.
CrazyPPL like myself, can watch this video, duplicate, and get it 90% correct. A school would enjoy my input. Any teachers in e.tenn?
how come these Gold parts stay there forever ? I mean dont they come loose by time ?
They were burned onto the gun
What would this firearm cost when ur finished?
I'll have 200 hours of labor in this piece when complete. I charge per hour about what your average plumber, master mechanic or similar trade charges. At auction the gun should reach between $15 and $20 thousand.
I'm glad I stayed to watch the second leaf. The first one was out of focus and dark to see anything.
For projects that take 200+ hours, does discipline and attention span become a problem? Or is it more like working on computers where time flies when you're on a task?
I can work for 8 hours at a stretch and forget to eat, drink or stand up.
When you have the ability to create something this gorgeous, I dont blame you one bit.
Do you still engrave a simple yes or no?
