- "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings"
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is a 2021 American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics featuring the character Shang-Chi. Produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, it is the 25th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The film is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton from a screenplay he wrote with Dave Callaham and Andrew Lanham, from a story by Cretton and Callaham. It stars Simu Liu as Shang-Chi alongside Awkwafina, Meng'er Zhang in her film debut,[2] Fala Chen, Florian Munteanu, Benedict Wong, Michelle Yeoh, and Tony Leung. In the film, Shang-Chi is forced to confront his past after he is drawn into the Ten Rings organization.
A film based on Shang-Chi entered development in 2001, but work did not begin in earnest until December 2018 when Callaham was hired. Cretton joined in March 2019, with the project fast-tracked as Marvel's first film with an Asian lead. The film's title and primary cast were announced that July, revealing the film's connection to the Mandarin (Leung) and his Ten Rings organization that appears throughout the MCU. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is the first Marvel Studios film with an Asian director and a predominantly Asian cast. Filming began in February 2020 but was put on hold in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Production resumed in August before completing in October. Shooting occurred in Sydney and San Francisco. - Развлечения
Tony's role as Shang-Chi's father was PERFECT.. just the way he presented himself so sincerely with his eyes and facial expression.
Dude is such a goat! I can't get over his performance
Yasssss😎
He brought some heavyweight acting to this movie.
He was perfect for the role! He scared me every time he appear without doing anything gruesome. But it also break my heart watching his character going through grief and dying at the end. He convey the emotion perfectly! 🥰😭
Superb actor
Dude this guy is a fucking LEGEND.
Totally
Absolutely
Yes he is!!!!! Can’t believe he’s almost 60, and still doing martial art for this movie
Facts....
TRUE
Tony Leung is a legend. He was the man in the 80s to early 90s Hong Kong dramas. Great to see him be recognized in western films. I think he was the best character in this movie.
Oh yea. It was pretty heartbreaking seeing him lose himself.
We saw his face through all the flash backs and current scenes VS Shang and his sister we saw 2 kid actors for both. There was some visual disconnect and this can be tricky for these kinds of flash back movies. Hope we get to learn more about Shang and his sister in the upcoming films tho!
I really hope he could come back in a prequel or something because he was great to see
@@DefMM123 totally. I am really curious about how he got the rings.. in his quest for Ta Lo, Wen Wu had to have run into the Ancient one and perhaps even Namor or a past Black Panther. There is a lot of story they have not fleshed out.. I would even love to see a Chinese animation voiced by Tony in a mix of Chinese water color and the current stylization or Marvel's "What if" exploring Wen Wu's past. If he met Kang the Conqueror in the past and "made a bargain." (The rings looks like future Kang technology - Kang as "He who remains" also used technology to live millions of lifetimes)
I think he could take the role of main character!
Wong Kar Wai Movies
He gave Wenwu so much depth, blurred the line between good and evil, right and wrong. In the end, sometimes good people do bad things and bad people do good things. Yin and yang. Such is life.
Very well said.
I love that Wenwu is actually a good person doing bad things for a good reason. He just went about it wrong (and *spoiler*
and evil extra dimensional beings were preying on his grief and manipulated him.
@@user-ed9qu5im2y Yes, reminded me of Majin Vegeta situation.
Dude he is literally the boss of a crime organization. He isnt good. The movie was a mess. They first establish he is a crime boss, but then they switch it up to make him look like a gentle dad.
Tony basically is the Ten Rings, because he is the LEGEND.
Ahh, I see what you did there lol 🤣
He is a legend… and I love it so much. His last scene made me cry like a kid. Because at the end, he truly embodied that Asian father image, always sacrificing till the last breath for his children.
hahaha spoiler
😌😌😌
Exactly. Asian father will sacrifice anything for his kids.
NO!!!!! why why you spoil the movie for me!! NO!!!!!
No ! No ! No ! I don’t want him to die 😭😭😭
I hope people here in the States start to realize that they are watching a living legend at work. This guy is an award-winning actor and the only reason Marvel had such a relatable villain in this movie.
👍
Tony Leung is a well known introvert. He seems more "talkactive" and bubbly in this interview. This shows that he truly enjoying working with his team at ShangChi.
I'm only watching Shang Chi for Tony Leung. I hope he gets more roles in more mainstream Hollywood movies. LOVE HIM.
Honestly he was the best thing about the movie.
He’s amazing, modern day legend
No man. Hollywood isn’t skilled enough to be on par with his talent. They’ll just do a shitty job. Hollywood can eat shit
Me too !!!
@@biggieschlongs8983 actually you have a point.. some of the HK acting legends who tried to break the Hollywood market were given bit parts and no justice to their abilities. For example, Simon Yam in Tombraider: Cradle of life ..
he has such a relaxing voice like he could do asmr
I'll call it here, he should get Marvel's first nom for Best Actor. And with this villain from a blockbuster superhero movie, he has a legit chance of winning.
Amen!! Thank you for putting it out there.
Lmao no
His Acting deserve an Oscar for sure but the weird thing is, this is a super hero movie, we don't usually expect the acting like compete film in MCU blockbuster. LOL
he should win supporting actor for Wen Wu
@@ronaldtoast if Anthony Hopkins can win Best Actor for Silence of the Lambs, TL can win Best Actor for Wenwu.
Legend. Western world doesn’t know how much of a legend this dude is.
Fans and many hollywood elites knows what a legend Tony Leung is
ASpec818 They should watch "Hard Boiled" or "Seoul Raiders", two of his best films
I’ve seen Bullet in the head which I bought on dvd last year
As much as I'm excited for simu I'm sorry Tony Leung is the one I'm most hyped about. Loved him for decades in his films...but also his demeanor professionalism and low profile drama free personality is so captivating. He's got such charm and charisma...he doesn't need muscles for me to find him attractive he just is. 😍
Simu was hyped to work with him. He’d show up when he wasn’t needed just to stare into his eyes.
Yes!
@@aresef tony leung is the best actor i've ever seen that can act w just his eyes so i understand
Tony totally carried the movie. Simu was a weak lead in my opinion, especially compared to the likes of Robert Downey Junior, Chris Evans and Chadwick Bosemen.
@@1Chasg , Tony was great, but Simu was very good too. I like his acting in here. Awesome!
He’s so intimidating even when he is nice. Let him do whatever he wants. He can play a villain and hero at the same time.
Damn, you still have your soul
Awkwafina just have that ability to draw out the humor of everybody!
Agree
Tony Leung is a legend. So humble despite his fame.
Tony Leung is such a genuine and nice person. The man who can tell an entire story with his eyes. He's an international treasure.
The director give him a lot of freedom for his character because Tony Leung is a legend 🥰🥰🥰🥰
He's soft spoken but is very clear and deliberate with his words.
Tony’s my childhood crush. He still looks great and this is my 1st time hearing him speak English. 😍😍😍
He was my childhood crush too! OMG our age is showing hehehe
Same. I've loved Tony for a long time.
Those Wong Kar Wai angsty films he appeared in tho, always made me cry. 😢
Damn, his English is perfect. ❤️🙏
Me too
The mandarin is a major villain and Tony Leung had the aura to pull it off. He made it convincing that Xu Wenwu was this immortal long-lived man with his calm demeanor and body language.
Batman had an exaggerated deep voice to make him darker and mysterious in Dark Knight. But Tony Leung - his voice is naturally deep, calm, and dark. He was meant to be the villain. All these years of acting has molded him into a very sophisticated and cultured man.
I wish they'd let him speak in Cantonese, he feels more comfortable and is more expressive.
There's a GQ interview conducted in Cantonese and he's much more expressive there. A bit louder too lol
I think it is great that he's speaking in English, and he's speaking well!
I hoped they let him speak Cantonese in the movie. Chan fa la, Michelle Yeoh and Yun wa speak fluent Cantonese. Some lines seemed unnatural in Putonghua.
@@letterZach but he's cantonese
@@toxic_kiwi502 yes, and there is benefits of his speaking in English at global stage. Showcasing his many talents and he's speaking really well in all the languages that he know.
I didn’t know who this man was before Shang Chi, but it was awesome to see why exactly he’s such a legend in Hong Kong. Definitely someone I’ll pay more attention to. He was the best character in the film, and that speaks to his calibre as an actor.
watch in a mood for love or chungking express
Now this is a man.. quiet, humble and an actor who could act well...
Literally stole the show; one of the best performances in MCU history 👏👏👏
I just watched it.
He LED the movie. Every scene he's in, you can feel the his presence.
I like Simu but Tony overshadowed everyone, in a good way!
Marvel's solution for their weak villain problem: call in a fukin legend!
Tony Leung was probably the best actor in the whole movie, veryone was great but tonys impression was just so powerful and that is an understatement
"Be careful how you speak to me. BOY!"
the facial expression and the tone/pace of speaking in this line and after this line is CRAZY
He shows complete dominance without yelling, cursing, threatening.
@@doglovemimijumable the best 😂
I've loved Tony since he was in Police Cadet '84 in 1985! It's a shame that no one is talking about it!
Luv Police Cadet, 1 of my all time fave serials🤙🏼
for those that know we all love police cadet best series evah
OMG!!!!! Our age is showing hehehe I love him so much in Police Cadet!!!!
I fell in love with him in the Heavenly Sword and Sabre 1986!
Tony Leung is truly an icon of HK dramas! ❤
I loved that too. I bought the VCD set once. Lost it. Any idea where to buy such classics?
I had zero knowledge of his history and fame but I walked out of the movie madly in love with Tony ;)
Somewhat kidding but It's true that I mentioned to the friend I went with that he was so much more interesting and attractive than the lead who is very cute etc but !
I was not shocked to find he was already a star in a different place
He is just amazing
He is our proud of Hong Kong for decades and major part of Far East Asia would have watched his work. He is a Cannes Film awarded best actor for the film "in the mood of love", the film itself is on the list of globally one of the greatest film also, give a go to watch if you are interested :)
Wow, you have missed out as Tony is wonderful! Glad many are noticing him more now.
I love it when stories really explore what love means in ways that most people tend not to think about or not want to think about.
A lot of good villains are motivated by hate, revenge, trauma, an over zealous sense of justice etc. And we certainly can feel for these villains. But it's very rare to see a villain motivated by love that is as pure as Wenwu's. To pull that off is incredible storytelling and incredible acting.
Tony is a legend! He's one of the best actors on the earth.
Tony Leung is a LEGEND, but Awkwafina is LEGENDARY because she casually drove Tony around in a Golf Cart on the studio lot.
Tony seems like a very calm and humble soul :) his role in Shang-Chi was amazing!!
I never knew this guy before this movie. But, his acting was incredible, hence why I'm diving into his interviews. I can see why all the comments say he is a legend. By far the best character in the movie imo. Excited to see more of his films.
One of the Best MCU Villians. Amazing job. Tony’s a legend in his own right
He's so cute!! He gives so much dad energy! I need Marvel to bring him back!
I can finally see why the title makes sense.
Wenwu is the Legend of the Ten Rings. Also Tony Leung is the legend of all legends!
Both me and my husband love Tony's role in Shang-chi. I don't think my husband ever watched his movie before but he really enjoy Tony's acting. Awesome job! This movie won't be able to touch so many people's heart without him.
You know he's legendary-tier, when his character is already among the top villains list after just 1 freaking movie!
Wonderful performance, expect nothing less from a legend. Very good cast overall.
I been watching Tony Leung movies for over 20 years! He is really a legend in the Chinese/Hong Kong film industry! He's one of those actors, if he's in the movie, it's probably gonna be good! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
If you all watch Tony Leung and Michelle Yeoh's legendary films from the past childhood... growing up. You know they still got it in this film.
They totally do!!!! Both are legends
This Man Was The Best Part of The Movie I loved Every scene He was In he Made This Movie A Lot more Special with his Presence Style and Talent❤️
One thing about Tony Leung is that he wants to understand the character more, just because wenwoo is a villain it doesn’t mean he needs to act like one, he wants to delve into the character’s backstory etc that’s what makes this Legend so amazing
Tony should win a Golden Horse
just by this interview alone.
The legendary Tony Leung ❤️❤️❤️❤️ Love him since the 80s ..love the way he portrayed Wen Wu. So much depth ( as usual , the art of Tony ) ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Love this guy. Grew up watching all his movies. Hong Kong legend.
Indeed Tony Leung is best actor in Movie and I enjoyed a lot. His acting, His screen presence and charismatic look in the movie make him different from others.
tony's english is perfect for me. i think he will be like jackie 1st time in hollywood with poor language. but see, i am so late to know his incredible legend.
He speaks real good, i feel happy listening to his voice
He had the strongest screen presence in Shang Chi. Legendary actor 🙏🏻
Saw the movie today, this man was amazing ! I want to see more of him
So proud of you Tony!! Can’t wait to see the film.
Dang this man is professional n u can see he put a lot of thought into the character
Such an icon. One of the best actors of our time.
I would love to see a movie starring Wenwu if that is at all possible!!!!!
Uh... Like Shang-Chi...?
He Such a good actor ❤️
Yes just finished watching it now and thought he was the best actor too
I'm just going to watch the movie for him! 🙌🏼 Watching him play the father makes me feel so old 😅
FUN FACT: Marvel, Disney, and Kevin F originally titled the movie, Shang-Chi and the legend of Tony Leung.
I waited so long for the appearance of The Mandarin in the MCU and am so gratefull a Legend like Tony was willing to come in and do the character justice with his stellar performance...Thank You Tony for giving us what we all waited for since Iron Man 3 and for all the other amazing works you gave us over the years.
Best mcu villain since Loki
I would love to see an origin story or Wenwu before/during the rings. Love to see him go through the ages. He looks so badass during ancient China battles
He looks so handsome in that period wig! I fell in love with him from Red Cliff.
Omg! I’ve been watching Tony’s movies, drama, comedies…since I was 8 years old and yet he still amazes me with his performance! Bravo 👏 Hardly hear him speak nowadays but in English and spoken so eloquently, another WOW!!! Tony 4ever!!!
I freaking love Tony! Grow up watch his movies.
Me too from California, USA 🇺🇸 😀
I've seen the movie twice and watching it the third time tonight - I'm so thankful he's decided to join the MCU. REPRESENT Tony!!
Same. And I’m not the type who rewatch movies
Tony leung, is a superb actor. All his skills, expression, feeling. The soul from his eye.
"You having fun?"
Tony: *fun? it's a job...*
In other interview he said it was very stressful bc he's not use to working with different directors and crews.
@@simonethach7134 Maybe he meant at first, but after spending time with them, he enjoyed it.
@@akmaldanial67 I'm sure he had fun and he did said alot of nice things about directors, cast etc and he goes more details about the process and how he feel and how to prepared for the role etc on many other Chinese interviews. You can see he hesitated saying he had fun 🤣.
@@simonethach7134 Yeah. Hahah.
His role was so intense and Awesome, Perfectly gave a vibe of What Mandarian is
My one fav actor all the time ❤️❤️ Tony Leung
OMG he's always been this cool with his vibe, legendary!
Grew up watching Tony Leung’s movies and to see him in MCU …EPIC
He’s one of Hong Kong’s great actors. Love watching all of his movies in the eighties.❤️🙏
Tony is a legend! We love him
Saw him in Shang chi, he is amazing, I think it would be in an actors bucket list to work with him, that’s how amazing he was in the film!!!
Such a legend! I hope people look him up and watch some of his previous movies!
i just love this actor..
Tony Leung Chiu Wai. My fav Asian actor from the 80s! Can't wait to watch the movie!!!
HE’S SO PURE PLS🥺❤️
Everyone talks about how brilliant Tony's acting but ARE WE NOT GONNA TALK ABOUT HOW GOOD HIS ENGLISH IS???!!!!!!
He was born in colonial-era Hong Kong. This is as much I as expect.
Fellow Hong Konger here. Conversational English is basically a standard for most born in the city.
What a legend. Love this guy
i love Tony Leung🥰😍🥰 he is amazing in this Role.
Finally watched Shang Chi. Tony Leung was amazing......💜💜💜 Man who can speak with his eyes.....💜💜💜
I love him. One of the respected legends of Asian cinema!
DEF ONE OF MY FAVOURITE MOVIES OF MCU
His English is better than Jackie, Jet and Chow Yun Fat's
He speaks like four languages. He’s soft-spoken in each of them. Donnie Yen also speaks great English but he was raised partly in Boston so he would.
Chow yun fats English is not bad lol
You cannot compare him to Jackie...Jackie didnt even complete his elementary school education so this is an unfair comparison

@@13din Eyes’ language perhaps 😂
What a man..what an Actor..this man is a living LEGEND..that smile of his gives me chills..
Tony's work with Wong Kai Fai and infernal affairs is some of cinemas best performances. Respect
I remember watching him in red cliff, didn't expect him would be in shang chi, this man is a legend indeed
Wow this is perfect 👌
Growing up while watching his movies and series….i love you Thio buki
Man this guy is a legend.. never dissected Wenwu like he had..

This scene, his expression
He totally dissed Shang Chi just with this one expression
Tony Leung is my mother favorite actor. Know this, my mother will watch Shang Chi
Best decision hiring him
The “surprise” part was so cute awwwww
Tony: my favorite is Iron Man...
Of course, he likes his rival 😂
Great movie!! Awkwafina is So Funny, Cute and one of the Best actresses Ever!!
LEGEND🔥
i love his character more than main hero , He's a badass in movies.
