You just have to get comfortable with your simple turns and then your body will be ready for more fast weight transfer and hence the turn. 3. I will make the separate video on crossovers. That's mostly the question of proper edging and weight transfer. On crossovers the inside foot should be extremely on the outside edge in the end of the move, so it's not that simple.
@@NikZvi Thanks for the reply. Highly appreciated. And the lesson to be learnt is… patience. You have to "edge" more To tilt wheels to the side of a turn. Each turn on flat setup includes some micro sliding of front and back wheels, and main principal of any sliding is an angle with surface.
Great tips, thanks. One question, what should the weight distribution be when turning? More weight to the leading foot, to the trailing one or half each?
I struggle so much to actually get my inside foot in front of my outside when doing a parallel turn. I also have trouble getting my inside skate to tilt inward. I tend to corner more like a noob with my skates aligned and my outside foot tilted in w/ most of my weight on it.
It requires some practice. And sometimes it's difficult to control all the parts at once. Start from learning the scissors position without turn and when you will be able to make it without problems move to the turns
@@NikZvi Yeah I'm sure it just requires more practice. The wierd thing is my issue is primarily with putting my left foot in front. I can skate very naturally with my right foot in front and even do a decent cross over step when turning left...
does anyone know if there's anything wrong with my turning? i have my feet in scissor position, leaning to the turning side and I have my body weight on the correct side, but my skates don't want to turn at all and they just keep going straight. the only way i can turn is by dragging my skates along, which slows it down, as they don't seem to want to roll into the turn.
It is difficult to say what is the problem. I recommend you to shoot a video and watch at yourself. Sometimes you feel that your doing everything right but in fact you're not. Probably the knees are not bent enough the edging is not good etc.
p but even to turn slightly and 'put pressure' on my leading leg actually feels like I have weak legs or thigh, it does not go the direction I want it to even when I position my feet in that direction, my leg sometimes leaves my body, I feel like I have no strength what's this all about lol ...if I I want to go left it such an effort for my legs to stay still.... Is it normal to feel it in the thighs knees and ankles???
That's of course a thing that depends on your physical shape. You can have some difficulties in the beginning, but in fact you body just have to get used and adjust to new positions it will take some time, but not too much. Just keep practicing. Maybe ask someone to help you, to hold you while you're turning. You need to feel some confidence, then it will be easier.
@@NikZvi hmm well at least it normal for beginners, so I can go straight in up down pavements and uneven ground so I thought my stability would improve!! Do you have any video what to practice to make my leading leg more strong or dominant? I literally feel like the skates are heavier than my body
You can try to practice such things as one foot skating and skating in scissor position, also simple squats and one-foot squats are helpful for gaining some power. But the practice is the key, just focus on the right technique and you will be more confident with time
When I turn to the right I let my left foot lead for stability, I have tried doing it the other way around and I can do it at slow speeds, but I lose stability at higher speeds, will this get easier?
It will come with some practice. Just skate more in scissors with your "weak" foot in front. Try to play with the edges control and the turn of the torso. You will get more comfortable with some time. We all have come through this.
I don't remember unfortunately. I've started skating when I was a kid and most of the basics came to me pretty naturally. My daughter learned it not a long time ago and I guess it took about three sessions for her to understand main principles. If you have problems with it you probably have to work more on your basic stride and ability to weight transfer first. Knees-edges-torso, one foot glide, all that stuff. I have some tutorials on it. Check them, it should help. And the turn will come with some time.
@@NikZvi Thank you. I subscribed to your channel a few weeks ago because of this video actually..all of it makes sense but I'm struggling with making it work ehe Thanks for your reply ✌️ ❤️
Well, I can suggest you to bend your knees more. In that position you will feel yourself more maneuverable. And of course just practice more in more comfortable wide area and try to make your turns sharper there at first.
Can you do a video showing how to turn with 2 money cases from the mafia? I’m greedy so I’ll have one money case in each hand. Double suitcase mafia turns is probably more advanced
I can easily turn right cause the right food is my stronger. But when it comes to turn left i have problems. It feels unnatural to have my left food to the front. This makes turning and overcrossing feel unstable. Any advises for that. I think i just have to get more use of my left feed going forward. Muscelmemory and so on... Anyone else with this problem? Good tutorials like to watch everyone of them.
Thank you! I guess you just have to work on your left foot scissors more. Keep practicing it even without turning. Pay special attention to your edges and that will be fine. It's a pretty common thing for almost every skater. So called "switch" - uncomfortable side. I still have some problems with my backwards switch side. But backwards is not that crucial as turns, so you have to train it. It's a question of few sessions in fact.
All skaters who started as adults have had this problem. It's coming from the outside edge on your weak leg. you have to work this outside edge. Lemons, half lemons, snakes are great exercises to work on this edge. Best of all for this is the forward "Criss Cross". It is not that hard as it seems. Start slowly, in slow motion. ruclips.net/video/8FJsuhU8o_k/видео.html ruclips.net/video/e71aBbNiKJM/видео.html Hope this helps you.
I’ve practiced and practiced. I CANNOT get my inner foot to lead on a turn. When my outer foot leads, I turn quickly and with more stability. When I try to turn with my inner, I barely turn at all.
Can't say exactly what is your problem without seeing it. Usually it depends on proper edging and scissor position. Try to work thoroughly in this elements it should help.
Your skates are softboot model and they probably don't fix your foot enough and you don't have enough strength in muscles yet. I would recommend you to try turning more carefully starting from the long radiuses and always make a good warm up before the training. If you have the possibility try to skate in some other skates. Maybe they will suit you better. Also don't tighten your skates (laces and buckles) too much , sometimes it can cause a pain.
when I turn right I have my left leg in front and the right back. ITS SOOOO much easier for me. I just can't do it the otherway without losing balance. I am not even close to doing it. I lose balance almost immediately :(
That seems easier at the beginning but you won't be able to turn that way on higher speeds and the risk of falling is higher. The proper turn is not that difficult in fact and it will be very natural once you'll catch th proper feeling of it.
bro i literally can't, the only way i can turn is by using the opposing leg to the direction to be in front, it doesn't work when i use the right leg, what's up with that ???
The only thing this I can suggest is to train more and check all the points. It should work if you will do everything that is needed. Also shoot yourself on video and analyse your mistakes..
Hi Nik, I come again to this tutorial because I really hard to turn when running on 3x110 wheels :((( Prior to this new setup, I was running on 4x80. In this setup not only I can turn but even I can power stop and power slide. This 3x110 is quite hard to maneuveur. I tried to skewed the angkles but still I quite hard to turn. To turn I need to rotate the ankles in slow speed. :( Have you experience this problem in the past? Need your advises Nik! Thank you so much!
Well. I did not have really much problem while transferring from 4*80 to 3*110. It only took about few days to get back the powerslide and turns haven't been a problem at all. I guess you're just a little bit too careful in transferring your weight, 3*110 feel significantly higher and more cumbersome so you just need to get used to it and fully use your weight transfer.
@@NikZvi yes, Nik you're correct! This is the first time I use 110mm. So I feel the wheels are too high. I think I need a few days to get used to it. Thank you Nic for your advices 👌
The usual reasons are: 1you're skating on both inner edges of your wheels, like this /\. The edges should be like this //. The outer skate on the inner edge th inner skate on the outer edge. 2. Your feet are too wide. The feet should be in the scissor position and almost in one line, so one skate follows another one and the gap between them is minimal. 3. You center of gravity is not moved to the center of the turn. Try to tilt inside.
Probably you're trying to move the center of weight too fast. pushing too hard in the inside foot and it just sticks into the ground instead of turning. This is one of the ways of braking in fact. Start with the very big curves and do it smoothly. Just move the weight to the center of the curve smoothly, don't try to turn 90 or 180 degrees immediately. Then make this curve smaller step by step. It will come.

@@ballan00 that is a typical thing. Almost every skater has his strong side and weak side, you just have to train both
does anyone know if there's anything wrong with my turning? i have my feet in scissor position, leaning to the turning side and I have my body weight on the correct side, but my skates don't want to turn at all and they just keep going straight. the only way i can turn is by dragging my skates along, which slows it down, as they don't seem to want to roll into the turn.
It is difficult to say what is the problem. I recommend you to shoot a video and watch at yourself. Sometimes you feel that your doing everything right but in fact you're not. Probably the knees are not bent enough the edging is not good etc.
@@NikZvi thank you! i'll give it a try
My getaway skating is on point. Sprints is where it's at, also most of those mafioso guys are on the heavy side.
Nice. But practice is always good:)
@@NikZvi yes definitely!
p but even to turn slightly and 'put pressure' on my leading leg actually feels like I have weak legs or thigh, it does not go the direction I want it to even when I position my feet in that direction, my leg sometimes leaves my body, I feel like I have no strength what's this all about lol ...if I I want to go left it such an effort for my legs to stay still....
But the practice is the key, just focus on the right technique and you will be more confident with time
@@NikZvi thanks for the tips I'll definitely try!
Genius
Oh) thank you!
Facing similar things, feels unnatural/unstable to do leading foot as turning foot. Good luck in getting it.
@@NikZvi I finally got it down, I can't believe how elegant my turns are now, thank you for the advice.
I'm glad you've made it. And good luck with further perfecting;)
Your russian mafia anolagy did it, i still dont believe how it worked but it did 😄 Thanks bro
Russian mafia always does what is needed;) you're welcome!
How long did it take you to learn this? Do you remember struggling with it? Thanks
I subscribed to your channel a few weeks ago because of this video actually..all of it makes sense but I'm struggling with making it work ehe
Thanks for your reply ✌️ ❤️
You're welcome!
I have difficulty when got very limited space to turn and I am afraid I will not make the turn and hit curb or end on grass etc. Any suggestions?
Well, I can suggest you to bend your knees more. In that position you will feel yourself more maneuverable. And of course just practice more in more comfortable wide area and try to make your turns sharper there at first.
@@NikZvi I had a feeling that was going to be the answer!
Hahahahaha you're funny. But your explanation is clearly explained and easy to understand
Thanks! That's my style.
PLEASE THAT SONG IN THE MIDDLE😭✋
Soon on i-tunes:)
Kool dud
Thanks!
I feel that the following will be: "how to turn backwards" ^^ ... and (01:40) what the hell! 😆 Yo men. 🤙
It's too early to turn backwards. I plan next tutorial on onefoot:) yo!
Can you do a video showing how to turn with 2 money cases from the mafia? I’m greedy so I’ll have one money case in each hand. Double suitcase mafia turns is probably more advanced
Hehe:) I guess you can just use a helicopter tip using suitcases as a counterweights for your hands;)

Hope this helps you.
I skated for 7 years, and i learned to do the firstgood turn maybe 2 days ago. I can do jumps, 180 even 360 but nahh i couldnt turn the right way xD
You're welcome!
This vid is great but did you see the cat just walk in the vid😂
Yeah. The cat is a part of the show!
xDDD good situation
:) it happens
Sometimes when I turn, it would hurt my left foot. is there any tips for it not to hurt?
The problem could be in the skate itself. What skates do you have? And where does it hurt?
@@NikZvi impulse-W the inner side of my left ankle would hurt
Your skates are softboot model and they probably don't fix your foot enough and you don't have enough strength in muscles yet. I would recommend you to try turning more carefully starting from the long radiuses and always make a good warm up before the training. If you have the possibility try to skate in some other skates. Maybe they will suit you better. Also don't tighten your skates (laces and buckles) too much , sometimes it can cause a pain.
@@NikZvi thank you!
when I turn right I have my left leg in front and the right back.
Knowing how to turn on skates is good but did anyone notice the cat at 0:44
Oh yeah, they did notice. This is probably half the part of popularity of this video
hahaha brilliant analogy
Thank you!
Hi Nik, I come again to this tutorial because I really hard to turn when running on 3x110 wheels :(((
Prior to this new setup, I was running on 4x80. In this setup not only I can turn but even I can power stop and power slide.
This 3x110 is quite hard to maneuveur. I tried to skewed the angkles but still I quite hard to turn. To turn I need to rotate the ankles in slow speed. :(
Have you experience this problem in the past?
Need your advises Nik!
Thank you so much!
Oh I just need more powerrrr
@@bmw335hdk2 you're welcome!
How comes I never turn even while doing so? My body turns but legs remain.
@@NikZvi so i should bend more towards the inside, wont i fall over?
1:47 so funny
:)
My inside leg always jams up, its like I can turn with one leg but once I try with both, the turn stops mid way
Probably you're trying to move the center of weight too fast. pushing too hard in the inside foot and it just sticks into the ground instead of turning. This is one of the ways of braking in fact. Start with the very big curves and do it smoothly. Just move the weight to the center of the curve smoothly, don't try to turn 90 or 180 degrees immediately. Then make this curve smaller step by step. It will come.
