I enjoyed your video. You have a very genuine and enthusiastic delivery, and also hit all the important points. I convinced my wife that this was the one to get, and I want to thank you for the assistance.

Great review, not sure a cheaper axe wouldn't also last a lifetime. I have my Dad's axe, one he 'acquired" when he parted from the army in 1946. It doesn't even have a name stamped on it . It's known as Dad's axe. I guess now it is Great Grandpa's axe as well. In Canada the average price carton of cigarettes is over $85 a carton. Gas is $4 a gallon so really for the price of a tank of gas for the old 1/2 ton or a carton and a 1/2 of cigarettes you have something that will by yours and his for a century. That's a bargain!!

4:04 Mate, you almost had me in tears, a very rare occurrence! Fantastic review. I have owned and used dozens of axes and bought this one recently, it is by far the best designed and best built pack axe I have ever used. thanks very much for sharing. Steve

Love the vid! I have the same axe along with a couple Gransfors & other larger ones for splitting. The Bushman has become my go-to axe for kindling, smaller stuff & general use. I do like the slight bearded blade for a close handgrip but find it's not the most refined bevel for finer work, but it can still do it. This is such a lovely axe…mind had some issues with the edge rolling off in the first couple weeks & I can assure that no rock or metal was hit. Apparently there had been some issues with the heat treating. I contacted Wetterlings online and they replaced it with no grief or guff, just high integrity...See you down the trail!

Great review, friend! I actually bought mine a few years ago from Wetterlings former CEO, Julia, whom I met at a hunting/shooting show here in Sweden. She'd brought a few to the show and I had her pick one out for me and even got a little discount for helping her carrying them from her car. :) She was very proud of the design and talked a lot about the development process behind the axe. Very cool person who is actually a blacksmith and an excellent small company making high quality tools by hand. I've used my axe extensively and am very satisfied. I'm pretty sure it will outlast me as well. Just a tip though, put some linseed oil on that handle. Cheers from Sweden!

Outstanding review! I was torn between the Gransfors Outdoor Axe and the Wetterlings. This axe frankly out performs the other. Very impressed. Thanks for the review.

Just stumbled onto this video at random. Excellent! I'm a fellow youtuber from Newfoundland, Canada, and I don't sub to many people! However, I have to subscribe for multiple reasons: 1) the beard (obviously. haha) 2) axe technique 3) Philosophy - similar to mine, the investment is more than worth it just for the heirloom it will become; a $20 coleman axe just doesn't have that same value and richness in 15 years! Great video my friend!

Great demonstration of the axe in multiple roles (chopping/splitting different woods, carving, etc). I had been looking at this particular axe for a while now and I think I've finally been convinced to shell out the cash for it.

Colonel Corazón Santiago Thank you for lettting me know! I honestly don't think you will regret it. I recently carved my first kuksa using it and it went rather well (www.trailagain.com/#!Carving-a-kuksa/colb/553065620cf29b0040834814) I did find the handle just a little long for carving small pieces. I purchased the Gränsfors Bruk Kubben #413 (instagram.com/p/1yTVxvLcmZ/?taken-by=trailagain) to see if the shorter handle really makes a difference. I should have a video up of it this next week. Have a great day!

Trailagain Fantastic. Looking forward to your future videos. That kuksa turned out really nice. I can see how something as small (tiny!) as the Kubben would be preferable for carving, though. Keep up the great work!

Bought one of these last year and love it. I have a couple other high quality axes but this is by far the best. Also i was lucky to get mine when they were about $120 and was considering a second one and see they are now about $150. Still worth it by far.

    I like that axe.
    2 questions,
1- is the hammer pole harden ?
2- how did you get the perfect square cuts on the log you split?
I bucked up lots and never can get a square face.

  • @blackspruceroutes
    @blackspruceroutes 8 лет назад +1

had mine for a week.Looks great! BUT1*The edge rolls easily and you lose your edge. 2*The round handle as opposed to the traditional flat oval near the head allows it to wobble around in my hand, as opposed to the traditional that allows a much more stable grip.3*The knob at the end is too small!! In all my 50 odd years of swinging all sorts of axes this is the first time an axe just slips right out of my bare hand on the preparatory backswing!!!Either I need to get used to it or it is not as perfect as you say.Right now it feels like you say " A perfect little axe for a little boy to play with" As opposed to an efficient tool for a man. That's 3 stars or 3 strikes.... depending on how you look at it...Would love to hold a " FINE FOREST AXE" in my hand to compare the 2!!!

May I ask about the shirt? Been looking for this type of thing, considered a Swandri shirt but might be to warm for what I need and the 1/4 zip looks ideal. Great video, deserves way more views.

Drop your knees when you split. Minimizes the chance of a glancing axe hitting you in the leg and gives you more downward force.
