  • Short Interview with Sonic Youth members Lee Ranaldo, Kim Gordon, and Thurston Moore. Last minute interviewer Byron from the band Crazy Hearts, unfortunately due to a no-show who preferred illicit substances......... Byron was being interviewed the same day for his band so he just filled in. Jan. 8, 1983, Episode 17. Honestly, no one had any idea back then what they would become. Videowave is a TV and Internet program featuring artists and music ignored by the mass media. #SonicYouth The thumbnail for this video is from a photograph that was taken at the time by Robert Barry Francos.

    It's so sad that the band put in so many years learning to smoke that by the time they'd finally mastered it, it was no longer fashionable.

    It's so hard to imagine that Kim is 30 here... She looks like she's in her early 20s! It really goes to show that age is just a number. Especially if you're Kim Gordon.

      common, ms gordon looked 40+ hreoin addict since i remember, which would bee the earliee ninetees, thurston on the other hand is scary. But Kim Gordon now looks sexy, healthier i guess.

      @@crossovo Goes to show how age has no limit on talent. People are pressured to become famous young but youth isn't everything. A lot of famous actors don't break out until their 30s or 40s.

      They were an underground noise band in the early 1980s, and smokers were the norm among the hardcore adjacent back then. If you didn't smoke scenesters would joke that you were some kind of health nut.

      In the 60-80ies smoking, boozing, casual drugs and sex were still allowed and normal. Then we got obsessed with security and some discovered there was a heck of a business in it. Ever since you'll get diseases from sex, car crashes from drinking and cancer from smoking. And they chopped almost every tree to avoid you'd hang yourself out of boredom ;-)
