it's kinda hard to argue that this music isn't pushing the boundaries of rap, and in an adjacent lane to playboi carti or ken carson. it's a weird convergence of timelines, a 71 year old lady somehow catching wind of rage beats and fusing it with industrial noise rock. artists like carti and don toliver have flirted with incorporating distorted guitars into their tracks, but they're beholden to mainstream palates, they would never take it to extreme sonic ends. so it falls into the hands of grandma to execute upon a combination that actually works tremendously well.. there's probably a lot to be explored in the industrial-rage-noise-rock-rap zone, but she's one few people daring and able to traverse that terrain. crazy
Rap artists love to flirt with rock but it’s a shaky ground and not many can pull it off. But otherwise you’re absolutely right. I actually think it’s kinda funny that Kim dropped a better (essentially) trap album than Ken Carson, Yeat etc lol
Kim’s still got it! Pushing sonic boundaries with that incredible voice! Goddess! Wish I had been there! Amazing performance from wildly talented musicians. 🔥🔥🔥
@@kassandrakid9440 It didn't matter as much when her songs where a token addition to Sonic Youth albums. Now it's all her not only is her non-singing a bit painful, so is the songwriting.
@@xcx8646 If you say so. But, all that just points out is that you obviously have no idea how big of a hit Kool Thing was. Or just how chilling her dead pan delivery of Protect me You is STILL all of these years later. Punk was never about talent. It was about the idea that you have the power to do it.
@@earthman808 I have every idea how big an underground hit Kool Thing was. But the tracks on which she sings and the song is good are very much the minority of her output. I'm a big fan of singers who don't sing well in a mainstream way. I'm no Mariah Carey fan. But Kim Gordon always was and is pushing at the limit that separates individual style and straight-up bad.
There are those old dudes playing till eternity songs they made when they were young, trapped in time, their past and big fat belly. And then there's Kim.
@@yudhistira9453 With all due respect, I actually think that 1 specific HK song isn’t too far off from what Kim Gordon is doing. Parts of it even remind me of Lightning Bolt, it’s crazy that they’ve never ever released a song that heavy before and knocked it out of the park
both her last albums are decent psycho films, and her gigs and tours are, shaking the boxes - she's definitely not out to 'do another entertainment job' - decent Kim, go on!!!
Go Kim. What I like best is that she is still exploring. Maybe you love it, maybe you hate it, but she is out there pushing and exploring.
Exactly
1000 percent, that's art
now we know who the noise rock genius behind sonic youth really was
we need more 71 years old role models!
That would be Chaka Kahn and Cyndi Lauper. Seriously.
Trump
71 ?no way!😮
Shit off is she 71!?!? 😮
no, we just need good ones.
Avant-Garde Lady Pioneer of Noisy Noiser Noise! She IS!
Correct you are!
Kim in excellent form.
this song goes HARD
that band is a beast
Camila Charlesworth bass & keys
Madi Vogt - drums, Sarah Register - guitar
Wish I was there. Pure punk distortion. LOVED it
was just wondering, thnxs
Thanks-yes intense groove-love the heavy distortion
gotta be intimidating eh? haha
They still slay it though.
Queen Gordon

correct...
And with nothing to lose in doing so. Her rep is bulletproof. Saw her in Detroit a couple months ago. F-in rager it was.
she has been doing this type of vocal styling.
I hear you. Carti´s "rock" phase is over and he is wearing basketball clothes now

She still has the same exact voice she had on Sister.
Yes, she still can't sing

MILES ahead of the other SY members output, just saying I know it's not a competition but she's killing it
‘The Collective’ is by far the best release of 2024… AOTY contender 💋
Good to see the Sonik Youth vibe alive and kicking in 2024. And kudos to the young drummer. He was rockin. I got grey hairs older than that kid.
heads up thats not a guy
@@Damblan 😮
Kkkkkkkkkk
Thurston doing it as well but elsewhere 😉

And John Cale. 82 and still putting out great new music.
Did you know it's possible to appreciate one artist without tearing down others? You should try it some time.
This may be one of the dumbest comments I've ever heard. Tell me you're a f'nist without telling me you're a f'nist.
I adore big fat belly

I saw her in concert tonight. This is so impressing. Don't miss it
Who's better than Kim Gordon? nobody. This is a GREAT song.
Molly Mcphoul❤
Thurston Moore is pretty good.
Laurie Anderson might be.
Kim rocking the Blacktop Jazzmaster!!! The indisputable Queen of Noise!!!
I was watching thinking is it a Jag or Jazzmaster or some kind of Jagmaster. Nice
Band is fire
'The Collective' is the album of the year so far for me. Kim Gordon is STILL hard as nails!!!
No one else can sing about shampoo and conditioner and have it totally rock.

I love the way you put that.,i dig.
I feel threatened by this song and I love it.
and all she's doing in the song is packing her luggage lmao
Love her new shit and her live band is really good
Sonic Youth Kim Gordon one love , my early 90s music crush, she is unique n articulate, she is my Grunge Goddess 🙌

Kim rocks!
I never thought Kim would be the member of Sonic Youth who would be making relevant music 2024. Good for her!
pretty backhanded compliment lmao
what does that even mean?
We never thought of you as a bright thinker too
Haha yeah, I am sure she really appreciates your ageist opinion 😅
She’s the one who has tried the hardest to not make Sonic Youth-b side-sounding songs (like Lee), but at least her second release is too monotonous…
Sonic Youth will never die
epic
coolest grandma i've ever fuckin seen wtff
Ícone!
OH YEAH!
The real Queen!
Kim is and always has been a badass. Damn!
Kim, the breeders & the national should have been the headliners
