    The Year Punk Broke is an amazing film. I have never been able to figure out if the title was "the year punk broke into the mainstream industry" (which is true,) "the year punk fell apart," or rather the dichotomy of the two.

    • @SaintMartins
      @SaintMartins 2 года назад +1

      It was just a "cheeky" title. The bands featured in the film all had roots in the Punk scene, also "Grunge" & Alternative Rock exploded into the mainstream in 1991 so they felt the title was fitting for their generation of musicians at that time.

    • @Psychol-Snooper
      @Psychol-Snooper 2 года назад

      @@SaintMartins Cheeky seems legit. I grew up with the director. He even once recorded a song with the sole intent on mocking me... which I think still have on "cassette."

    • @thevoid99
      @thevoid99 2 года назад

      the quote "the year punk broke" refers to motley crue's horrendous cover of "anarchy in the u.k." that they did for their 1991 greatest hits album as it was a hit yet HATED by punk purists.

    • @Psychol-Snooper
      @Psychol-Snooper 2 года назад

      @@thevoid99 Do you think the movie was about a song glam/heavy metal band Motley Crue released? It's a tour documentary.
      I mean maybe. That would be some next level satire. XD

    • @Xcalator35
      @Xcalator35 2 года назад

      @@Psychol-Snooper In the movie you can actually see Thurston discussing the the Motley Crue incident and using the phrase '1991 is the year punk finally broke'. At that tome it was a joke and used sarcasticly but a few months after the tour with Nirvana (and filming the material), Nevermind was released and the 'grunge/altenative explosion' happened. So the name gained another dimension and almost a prophetic one...
