When it comes to the “Sakurai’s favorite Castlevania is Circle of the Moon” entry, it is referring to the fact the the game oddly has a lot of representation in Smash Ultimate. It has a remixed track, Nathan Graves and Hugh Baldwin has there own Spirits in the game, and the reason why this is weird is because the game doesn’t really get any attention from Konami since it’s releases until Smash Ultimate came out, especially since it is considered non canon.
As in the Castlevania Anniversery Collection in the bonus stuff mentioned, there were a lot unused ideas for powerups like the "speed powerup" from porkchops. One of this ideas was a werewolf Powerup which should turn Simon into a werewolf and should increase Simon´s whip Attackpower.
Dark Maria is kinda a thing. There was a cut ending where Maria interferes with the possessed Richter fight to save Richter herself. She becomes possessed and transforms and Alucard must fight her. There was dialogue recorded that can be found online.
Just remembered something! I think i know what that portrait curse is a reference to, potentially. In Rondo of Blood there was a mini boss on the ghost ship whose a ghost that possesses a portrait. He has an instant kill attack that shows him turning Maria or Richter into a portrait inside his portrait as he kills them. I remembered raging at that boss when I was a kid
Oh, I'm almost two years late, but I can't ignore it. The Granfalloon may have been named from Cat's Cradle in the English localization, but the design and its name in all other incarnations is derived from the demon Legion in the book of Mark chapter 5 in the bible. The encounter with the demon is described right at the start of this chapter.
I'd like to think that the reason why Kid Dracula is Alucard and why they look different in the game is that Kid Dracula was Alucard's interpretation of the events that happened in the game when he was a kid hence the reason why the game looks very child like or was drawn by a kid.
The "cookie monster" thing is referring to when AVGN called demon Dracula the cookie monster in his Castlevania video. No idea why, but I guess it stuck with the fandom
An additional tidbit about Jonathan and John Morris being left handed is that it can be clearly seen in their spritework. It's true that it switches depending on where you're facing, but if you look at the sprites you'll notice that Jonathan and John, when facing to the right, have their chests facing out towards the camera when whipping. Any other Castlevania character has their back facing to the camera, because they whip right handed.
Regarding the canceled cartoon, I've been told Dic, the company behind Captain N and the old Mario and Sonic cartoons planned a show for Metroid and Castlevania. The Castlevania show would have featured a bunch of kids as the protagonist. Also I was told Samus was gonna be a dude in the Metroid show.
The 3rd boss from Dracula X Chronicles is likely referring to a new 3rd form in the final fight against Dracula. I think IGA mentioned his wife being the basis for Shanoa in a Nintendo Power interview
For the critical hit one, yes it is possible for other bosses to get hit by it too. It happens when you get hit by the boss and hit them at the same time. Use to happen to me in the Dracula fight whenever I hit him the head while getting hit by the fireball projectile.
The critical hit mechanic is referring to a mechanic/glitch in the original game where it's possible to do 5 points of damage to bosses if they get hit the exact time Simon gets hit. It's partially whats used to kill the bat in 1 hit but can also kill 1st phase dracula in 2 hits. Its extremely hard to pull off consistenly which is why its somewhat obscure but its essential for speedrunners
Shanoa and Miriam are indeed based on Iga's wife cool aloof attitude as mentioned in some interviews. The only physical trait they share is being all brunettes.
45:17 I always thought the Larva enemies from Dawn of Sorrow and Portrait of Ruin were a callback to that enemy. Similar to how the Dead Mate enemy from Dawn of Sorrow was inspired by the old man and dog ghosts in the secret room in SCV4.
Someone's likely said this already, but the Famicom did NOT have a better sound chip. That sound chip that allows Akumajo Densetsu (Japanese Castlevania III) to have better music than the Western release is in the game cartridge itself. Konami manufactured their own sound chips for some games; this one in particular is called the VRC6, and is the predecessor of the VRC7 from the legendary Japan-only Sci-fi RPG Lagrange Point. Nintendo of America's licencing agreement in North America mandated that all cartridges had to be manufactured by Nintendo, using Nintendo's chips, so any proprietary tech (like the VRC6) couldn't be released there. Thus Castlevania III's soundtrack had to be reworked so that the game could be manufactured with NoA's stock-standard MMC3 mapper chip. Japanese publishers, on the other hand, could manufacture whatever they wished, and took advantage of the Famicom's expandability with chips like this. Lots of people mistakenly claim that the NES isn't expandable like the Famicom is - this is actually untrue. With a pin converter and something to suppress the 10NES lockout chip, Famicom games can be played on the NES. It's just Nintendo of America's iron grip on cartridge manufacturing that kept interesting tech like Konami's mapper and sound chips out of American hands, and goes some way to explaining why NoA had such a conniption when non-NoA cartridges (e.g., Tengen, Wisdom Tree, etc.) made it to market.
The reason "Battle of the Holy" was not used in Castlevania The Adventure Rebirth is that the composer didn't think it would be a remake of Castlevania The Adventure. Unfortunately, it is not included in Castlevania Music From black either.
the sonic unicorn thing was supposed to be a contest where the children were asked for enemies for a next game ... i guess that was the enemy that chris chan designed
A detail to take note about why the earlier titles have aspects similar to existing media, the games were also intended to be a tribute to classic horror movies.
This is why (amongst other reasons) the ever-expanding power and length of copyright is such a detriment to creativity. Before it was generally expected that art doesn't exist in a vacuum, and - given enough time - works should be free game to be reinterpreted and repurposed by anyone. Nowadays the attitude seems to have totally shifted (as backed up by any graph of copyright length over time) to "someone made it, a company owns it, and can/will own it into perpetuity if possible". Even fair use is a joke because if a company decides to take you to court, what chance do you have of winning? Even if you're completely within the bounds of legality, you're understandably just going to cave and (for example) give them the ad revenue on your video. /rant
Intentional or not, Hammer probably would have played a lot like Robert, since he would have been the Julius team's Grant equivalent. Hammer probably would have had more mobility options, though. I'd still like to know why they weren't able to include him in Dawn, since he would have completed Igarashi's amazing attribute to his favorite game in the classic series.
I always thought that Barlowe from OoE looked a lot like the famous german writer Goethe who wrote Faust in which the devil seduces the protagonist. The Albus/Kaspar connection is very similar.
11:00 AVGN made the term popular. No idea if it predates him using it, but almost assuredly he popularized it when he compared Dracula's monster form to The Cookie Monster.
28:50 I dont have any sources and you could never find it now but Emergency Awesome (who is very unreliable it seems, so who knows either way?) once reported on a Castlevania Animated Series created by the creators of Adventure Time. And maybe thats what this is talking about?
The third extra boss in the Rondo of Blood Remake for PSP is probably Dracula's third form. In the original, Dracula only has 2 forms with 2 life bars. In the PSP Remake he has 3 life bars. After you beat Dracula's second form, where he's a giant demon, he reverts back to his human like form & he thinks he's finished but something where fate denies his death & he fights similar to his first form but with a larger range of moves & higher damage. His third form is, honestly, very hard. I almost wanted to rage quit on him as it took me more than a single night of attempts to beat him. Finishing his third form was on par to beating a challenging boss from Bloodborne. I seriously felt the need to celebrate after defeating Dracula's final form in this game.
I kind of hoped there would of been an entry for The Demon Castle War/Battle of 1999 to be honest. That singular event brings up so many peculiar things surrounding it's lore significance. That and there's always has been some sort of speculation about Konami making a game that takes place during that period.
I am so mad at myself, cuz I’m just now finding out about the cream pie thing for the Richter fight in POR. I sat there and struggled for 2 HOURS!😭😭😭 And the whole thing with Luigi just broke my heart and made me laugh
This was a great explanation, very well! I like Castlevania, but I'm more of an enjoyer than a fan, I haven't played a every game, but I was also interested in learning about new things.
Regarding Hammer, I've read people found data in Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow relating to him being playable during the Julius mode, perhaps as a stand in for Grant. For whatever reason, they cut him from development and focused instead on Yoko and Alucard being his allies.
23:12 maybe it can be the exploit in Lament of Innocence where you can multiply your items. You can do it in some spots where the tapestry with yellow details touches the window lighting.
When it comes to Portrait of Ruin. I think that tapestry curse might be referring to how Brauner sealed away Dracula in his throne room? His room is blocked off when first found. It odd remembering how Brauner was strong enough to imprison the dark lord.
I just got the rom for SoTN on Sega Saturn, and I have to say, it's nothing like Aria of Sorrow. And not in a bad way, mind you. As much. asI love AoS, it's not like the others, like HoD and CotM. I miss the whip's long range.
I find odd to call Lords of Shadow an alternative timeline, like, Castlevania don't have one unique main timeline, I mean, it did, but the original was already discarded by the IGA version decades ago, and by the time of Lords of Shadow, it was the main modern canon and only Castlevania timeline. Now we have the Netflix version too, so LoS was just one of the many Castlevania alternative canon timelines. No less important than the IGA one.

Had no idea ot was non-canon. But I LOVED the card system so much in that game.
Actually I think Circle and the 64 games were added back in as far back as 2006
As in the Castlevania Anniversery Collection in the bonus stuff mentioned, there were a lot unused ideas for powerups like the "speed powerup" from porkchops. One of this ideas was a werewolf Powerup which should turn Simon into a werewolf and should increase Simon´s whip Attackpower.

i would inclue the "Sir Angry Rolfe" in the DLC of Lord of Shadows 2, a reference to the AVGN and his review of Simon Quest
Oh, I'm almost two years late, but I can't ignore it. The Richter muttering dracula fact is funny. It is but also isn't in the game because due to an oversight, Richter actually never says it in game.
The "cookie monster" thing is referring to when AVGN called demon Dracula the cookie monster in his Castlevania video. No idea why, but I guess it stuck with the fandom
30:00 = Correct. Hammer was planned to be playable in DoS. The unused dialogue for him was datamined.
obviously Kid Dracula is Andy Celsius Tepes, Alucard's forgotten little brother.
Ah, of course, how could we have forgotten?
i know it was not talked about but, in the game Dust: An Elysian Tale there is a healing item called "Misterious Wall Chicken"
An additional tidbit about Jonathan and John Morris being left handed is that it can be clearly seen in their spritework. Any other Castlevania character has their back facing to the camera, because they whip right handed.
32:00 = Not speculation. The unused ending has been datamined from SotN in which Maria turns evil and Alucard kills her.
the cookie monster is a reference to AVGN’s review of castlevania
Regarding the canceled cartoon, I've been told Dic, the company behind Captain N and the old Mario and Sonic cartoons planned a show for Metroid and Castlevania. I saw the concept art of the Metroid one.
They never beat the game smh my head
Its super dope they werent gonna go woke and gender swap metroid. Metroid is the coolewt guy in videogames.
@marcush4741 look I know your being ironic but this was the 80s
"Christopher Bee" playing Dracula is doubly funny because Christopher Lee had actually played Dracula in 1958.
My favorite Castlevania Iceberg entry: "I don't know."
The 3rd boss from Dracula X Chronicles is likely referring to a new 3rd form in the final fight against Dracula.

This might be the first channel I've ever found and subbed to before they hit 1000. Almost there, good luck!
Thank you so much! Hopefully more of the Castlevania community will come to this video :)

Holy s**t, so Luigi really is dead in the Castlevania lore, Sakurai was really onto something, it's canon...
And it breaks my heart😭

Evil Sonic Unicorn is literally the photo on the deepest part of the iceberg

Pretty good Iceberg always cool get some Castlevania lore ^-^

I think the third extra boss in the Dracula X Chronicles would be Dracula's third phase.
Those are cool factoids about Belmont's Revenge using two classical pieces in the soundtrack; both of which were used involving Soleil Belmont.
