I like Super more because I feel like the battles and powers are just a lot more creative, and there is so much more diversity in terms of fighting styles. Characters like UI Goku, Hit, Jiren, Zamasu, Granolah, and Moro all have their own distinct set of powers and fighting styles, which is something that I think GT characters lacked. All the fight scenes in GT felt too similar and not diverse enough.

Yeah so there's a problem gt is often called too repetitive but it's the opposite to me
Many unique battle fields and moments in gt that I enjoyed whereas in Super
Alot of the fight scenes especially in the T.O.P have alot of people firing rapid ki blast and basic punch patterns
There are unique fighters but alot of it feels undiverse to me
That being said notably the way dyspos , hit and toppo fight is so much fun to watch and I severly enjoy it
Not forgetting universe 2 and the cat girl hop she's fucking lovely

oh and ui moves interesting aswell with it's fluency and the way Zamasu fights divine like atleast at first *not later* is very neat
Moro himself is unique but his style feels basic
Granolah is cool as he's like a sniper which is a unique thing in dragon ball so I like it

@@gabrielchastain6091 My issue is that GT fight scenes are just straight bland and boring. No unique powers are involved whereas DBS has still like Hit's timeskip, Moro's magic, Fused Zamasu's angel lightning, Granolah's sniping, and more. GT fights just feel uninspired in comparison. Also, the choregraphy of GT fights is very boring as well. The only memorable GT fight choregraphy in hindset is Goku vs Ledgic and maybe SSj4 vs Nuova. DBS has a lot more memorable choregraphy and unique powers. Yes, DBS does the whole repeating animation thing a lot, but GT does it even more and much worse. SSj3 Goku vs Baby is a prime example of it.

@@gabrielchastain6091 I personally can't remember any battle locations from GT besides General Rildo's planet. DBS has much more memorable battle locations such as planet cereal, the ToP arena, the U6 vs U7 Arena, Bulma's party, and more. For GT I just remember most battles taking place in destroyed cities.

@@thebrightestknight6714 I'd still argue I saw it happen alot more in super as it got to the point where I could notice the repeated animations *which is bad as i never notice that*
But that dosent mean the fighting is bad the fights in super were often interesting
However there are alot of fights that are interesting in gt
While it technically isn't a fight I much enjoyed the car chase on the money planet
Ssj3 Goku vs baby lasted for about 10 seconds as he just couldn't do anything against him and watching baby sling him by his tail was lovely
I can't remember if it was Rildo or nuova but there is 2 really entertaining fight scenes where Goku used the environment to avoid the scorching attacks of nuova and the metal freezing attacks of Rildo
I think it was Rildo but he was about to hit Goku and Goku used soda machines he was under to splash Rildo in the face and help him escape
And I think it was against Rildo but might have been nuova where Goku used a movie theatre and a playing movie to confuse him
I'll admit that alot of the shadow dragons there wasn't alot of fighting because most were weak but they made up for it with their wierd quirky powers
You are wrong about the not unique powers thing
Babys unique power was controlling bodies like they were puppets and taking over bodies *not like Ginyu who switches bodies or Babidi who enforces his will over people* but literally taking them over and using them like puppets with the added benefit of mutated stronger super sayain forms *which is confirmed in the perfect files*
Rildo is literally Able to turn things into metal and use that metal as a weapon *which is badass* he even turned the planet into metal and made it himself *he did it before it was cool*
While muuchi didn't do much of anything his whip would turn you into a doll regardless of power
Lood literally couldn't be beaten except through attacking him inside and out at the same time
Super 17 was the least unique but even he absorbed energy in a very unique way
He absorbed it through his body by getting hit rather then absorbing it into his hands
Each shadow dragon except for sin had their own unique element or power
Oceanous had command of the wind and possibly water
Nuova and Eis were fire and ice obviously
Naturon had command over the earth and *the less unique ability to take people's bodies hostage*
      Haze was of pollution
And finally Raze was lightning and his power came from electricity making him stronger with the more power he had even to the point ssj4 Goku was screwed
He also could copy powers and send them back at the opponent with a reflect attack *granted janemba already did the first part*
Syn was the only one without a unique power and that's because he was the power house and when he became omega he became all of them combined into one incredibly broken for
There was alot of strategy used in alot of the fights
Early on baby couldn't contend so he would wait for the perfect moment to infect people during battles with him
Super 17 was hiding the fact he could absorb since he could hide it behind him just looking like he was being hit and not taking damage , combined with the fact he could counter instant transmission by feeling the vibrations in the air
He was so busted they had to beat him while he was absorbing an attack
Oceanous Goku actually copied her attack and fought her like that and they only could get through her shield by attacking from above because of the wind pressure
Haze they actually got tricked into being weakened and only won due to them finding a way to stop the pollution
Raze they were screwed until he basically killed himself by taking too much greedily which Goku comments on
Eis used his ice to keep Goku away and also pretended to surrender and blinded Goku in an attempt to cheat
Throughout the first of nuovas fight Goku ran away trying to trick him as much possible due to not being able to hit him because of how hot he was
And in the second half as super sayain 4 he could now touch him unaffected by the heat but couldnt do severe damage because nuova was faster so he had to outsmart him with mirrors literally and find a way to get behind him
Against syn Goku was blind and had to use his other sense and even used the amusement park to get an advantage *the best fight in gt in my opinion as it's so much fun to watch*
Goku even basically used ultra instinct while in super sayain 4 commenting that his body reacted for him on instinct and his other senses while his vision was gone
GT really gets downplayed on its fights
But then again so does super just not as much in comparison

I don't care if this is an unpopular opinion, but I absolutely LOVED DBS. Even if the plot wasnt as strong as it could be, it made up for it with its funny humor, amazing fight scenes, unique powers, and making some old characters relevent again. In terms of these aspects, I don't think GT really had them. GT humor was eh, fight scenes were okay at best, but I gotta admit SSj4 was awesome.

In terms of DBS, I would’ve agreed if the first 2 arcs weren’t repeats of 2 movies. And since the first 27 episodes are the first 2 arcs of Super, I am going to have to hard disagree. And even though the TOP has great moments, they are episodes (plural) from each other.

  • @AstraFulminous

I've always enjoyed Super more because it looks out for all of the characters a little better. Letting us see them reach greater heights and following up on where we last saw them before the timeskip. An evolving adventure with everyone getting their shine. GT to me however always comes across as trying to end the series and take the characters down for a larger ultimate battle.
For example in Super the characters still train and even through the TOP - Moro - Super arcs realize they can go even further than they ever believed. Master Roshi, Piccolo, Gohan, Tien, Vegeta, Krillian, 18, 17, Goten, Trunks (even Yamcha) all of them are self improving.
But for GT it's as if they have accepted defeat and don't get the opportunity to show us more or have their arcs grow. Vegeta while content, is actually struggling with where to go next with his self improvement without a cause, 17 even though we last saw him as a park ranger is cloned, ripped of his individuality and placed on a mission to end the world while trolling his sister, contrast that to Android 17 from Super who protects a whole wildlife reserve, has a wife and two kids, found a way how to survive a self destruction moves which parallel that the androids could be blown up, grows in power, respects and meets with sisters husband and their kid, resolved his differences with piccolo, is almost an active z warrior at this point. and has learned to value all life so much in contrast to his future self that he saved 8 whole universes from permanent erasure with his wish via the the Super Dragon Balls.
And that's not even getting into the difference another character like say Piccolo. Who is now possible stronger than Goku, we now have a lot more lore on, was blessed by the very dragon balls he created, has show to grow so close to the son family that he even takes care of pan, has gotten to see his student learn his makankosapo, keeps up with his training and tries to fight when he can, even developing new techniques and accepts who he is while at the same time in contrast to while he was ma junior making it clear of his additional separated from Demon King as something no longer himself.
    And so on.
There are soo many differences with how each series treated the characters. I simply cannot leave what better levels of good Super has done for the cast to the wayside.

Sorry but what you tried to pass as a positive is actually a detriment.
Maybe ending the series was a good thing instead of brining it back and dangling it for more marketing. Goku just ends up repeating the same story and somehow seems to get more idiotic with each new installment.
Training was mostly offscreen or just makes it look ridiculous for anyone that wasn't Goku. There was a rule about a human, if they made a Saiyan go Super, the human wins. But now this god level stuff struggles or flat out fails (I rarely see Blue win any battle if ever).
You know what GT respected with Vegeta? The ending of the Buu Saga where he finally came to terms with his own inner struggles. Super just restated it for the sole purpose of marketing a rivalry.
A self destruct attack actually self destructs. You don't just say they can just overcome ones own CORE detonating inside you and what "Dodge" it. The manga seems to agree by having him Fake his death but that was to change something so idiotic. Also 17 didn't exactly get a redemption during the Cell Saga. I was under the impression that the guy was dead the whole time and since that's what GT (Plus a LOT of people) thought, then it means that she had years to revive him but instead left him in hell. That is a forced redemption.
Piccolos characterization was already done back in Z. I'm not even going to bother with this many Change the Characters color to give another species their own Transformation.

@@JohnnyTightlips2007 The problem with your argument is that GT does the EXACT same thing. GT has absolutley NO reason to exist. It doesn't even TRY to tell any overarching story, all GT tries to do is end the series despite the fact that DBZ already gave us a fine enough ending. DBS works as a sequal MUCH better than DBGT. Literally every arc in GT can be skipped besides the ending and NOTHING about the series would change. On the otherhand, DBS develops characters along the rode, introduces new powerups, and is leading to Goku and Vegeta inevitably surpassing (and perhaps even taking up the roles of) the gods. DBS actually feels like its going somewhere and leading somewhere with its story, whereas GT just feels like its continuing the story for no real reason. GT feels like a zombie-series.

@@RaisinbranLegend No it does not if it has to go back and RETCON Z on a repeated basis.
And no it Regresses Characters. Vegeta Still has a rivalry with Goku even though he literally put that to bed. Goku put several universes in danger over a tournament (Only to then later cover his ass by saying that they were set for demolition anyway).
What development did Tien get exactly? Didn't even see Launch there. Roshi has been done since the start of Z. Give me Yamcha at least instead of sidelining him in a more insulting way.
The Kai's were the Gods before the idea of Destruction Gods or Angels were even a thing and only served to make the world more cramped where as open space expanded it.
Where exactly is Super going anyway? Moro came off as a repeat Cell except even more ridiculous than Buu.
Granola? What happened to the Tsuforians who already had an established hatred of Saiyan's.
The Oilers are practically Supers version of Bojack. And that whole thing with Bardock? This is like the Sixth time that he has been redone when the Special got it right the First time.
Super is nothing more than a nostalgia baiting soulless cash grab.

      @RaisinbranLegend 11 месяцев назад +12

@@JohnnyTightlips2007 No, GT regresses the characters in a much more embarassing and hurtful way. I mean, an entire ARC in GT literally revolved around regressing Andriod 17 into a villain again, and then not even giving him time to make amends for what he did before the writers decided to kill him off. Not to mention how GT ruined Vegeta as well. Are you really trying to imply that GT vegeta didn't care about his rivalary with Goku?? Oh please. During the GT world tournament episode, Vegeta literally broke into the world tournament and interrupted the entire thing JUST to try and fight Goku. If anything GT vegeta is even MORE obsessed with Goku than DBS Vegeta based on that episode. In that same episode, Vegeta takes Goku to fight on a bridge at the end of the episode, showing that GT vegeta has CLEARLY not overcame his hatred of Goku. Not to mention the shadow dragon arc, which was literally one of the worst arcs in the franchise. You're telling me there is 7 shadow dragons, yet only THREE (Syn, Eis, and Nuova) are even memorable? That alone proves how low quality GT is. What GT does to the side characters is just unforgivable. GT does not even make an ATTEMPT to give the side characters any depth, development, or moments of spotlight. On the otherhand, DBS gives side characters such as piccolo and gohan new powerups, side characters such as roshi and krillin more powerups AS WELL AS more development, and Super develops Vegeta way more than what GT has ever even tried to do. Super Vegeta actually makes amends for his past actions, and shows just how much he loves his family by throwing away his pride. Such as when he makes himself look goofy in order to stop Beerus from destroying the planet, or when he protected the namekians during the Moro arc, or even when sought to make amends on behalf of the saiyans during the granolah arc. GT vegeta does nothing interesting at any point in the show. All GT vegeta does is cheat to gain a new powerup, and he STILL manages to lose every fight he is involved in.

The main problem with GT is that it tries WAY too hard to tone down the tension and power scaling, but it does a very bad job at it. They turn Goku into a kid in order to nerf him to allow weaker characters time to shine, but then they immediatley decide to give Goku a form much stronger than any form he had in DBZ? What was the point of nerfing him in the first place then!?? The worst part about this is that despite Goku's nerf, he still steals the spotlight from the other members of the cast, such as Pan and Trunks.

Exactly! GT feels directionless. On one hand, they try to tone down the series and level the playing field more so that weaker characters can get spotlight. It's the same as the Teen Titans Go fan prefer it over the original Teen Titans.
GT is the official sequel to DragonBall Z.
You claim they " disrespect" rather than simply being consistent.
Now as for disrespect nothing does it like DBS.
Take Future Trunks brings him back to belittle and demean his growth in the Cell arc as a character and discards all that was established.
Have him lose everything he fought so hard to save.
Just dump him in another time line that isn't his own where another verse exists as well now that's disrespectful.
Ask for DB side character have their day in the sun.
You know at a certain point over stade their welcome.
They have served their purpose. They started as bad or selfish guy and finished as heros.
Vegeta arc was fully complete in GT.
He has assimilated into being an earthling.
Declaring himself to be an earthling with saiyan pride.
State the earth is my home and made plans to evacuate his fellow earthlings.
He gave up on surpassing kakarotto and only trains to surpass his own limits.
He see Goku as his closes friend and rival.
So you see his character arcs where near completion.
He willingly except help to get to ss4.
He was the one to suggest fusion.
That completely raps up his development.
The DB human cast powers are minesquille in comparison to the main Z and GT character cast.
Now it's would quite illogical to bump their power up to the lead cast..
It brake immersion as well contradicts establish rules.
Super does this on steroids without shame. They used the term train frivolously without pause for explanation unlike Z.
The most ludicrous power up that tops the cart would definitely be Roshi the weakest fighter in DB's end/ Z.
If you remember his character arc ends with him stepping down and retiring in the DB tournament arc.
His last time he trains was in preparation for king piccolo fight.
The oldest and weakest incarnation that caused his death.
His last master was the Cat Korin that everyone else finished train with after king piccolo arc.
Master Roshi didn't trains at kami look out with popo or Kami like the rest.
He didn't train with king Kai like Goku or the other 4.
He didn't train in the room of spirit and time/ hyperbolic time chamber.
He didn't train on grand Kai planet with dead warriors from across the 4 quadrants like goku.
Yet we the audience are expected to except a fighter with a power level of 139 managed to eclipse super saiyan Goku's 150,000,000 at the end of the Freeza arc.
Absolutely not feasible super is for all purposes nonsensical blatant cash grab design to sell merchandise.

I don’t really have a nostalgia bias for Dragon ball because I recently got into Dragon ball right before BoG premiered as a movie. I then proceeded to watch the series in order although I read DBZ manga and not watched the anime. Then I went on to watch Super as it was airing weekly. Had a ton of fun with all of the series. Super was a huge thing when it was airing even with its production issues early on due to poor management and rushed episodes. There are times I wonder how DBS would have turned out if the anime had a good production schedule early on. Also general I do prefer the manga over the anime for DBS thanks to me preferring many of Toyotaro’s decisions over Toei’s. Sure it wasn’t as good as OG DB and DBZ but I had a ton of fun watching the series in order. Super also introduced my favorite form SSG as well. I love everything about the form and how it was first used. My biggest complaint was really how quickly it got replaced and how little it got used in the anime.
DB GT was something I watched very recently, so sometime in 2020 or 2021. My experience with GT is that it is the worst DB series and I fully understand why it was the black sheep for the longest time. I did not like the evil dragon ball arc at all and I do not like the idea of being punished for using the dragon balls as they were intended, they have a cool down period for a reason. I also hated the super 17 arc which really should have been cut. I actually didn’t mind the first arc too much but I fully understand why people consider it boring. To me it was decent but nothing to stand out. Even SS4 had some issues with it feeling weak after the first fight in my opinion. Never really got a chance to shine. I like SS4 but honestly I’m not in love with its design like many other fans of the form are. Also I thought Kid Goku in GT should have had a power decrease not a stamina decrease. He should have been able to hold Super Saiyan for as long as he could as an adult because your Ki shouldn’t be effected by your age, just strength. More fights should have shown how Goku was weaker despite having access to the same forms that would of dominated them as an adult.
Over all I don’t think GT is awful but it’s only ok. I had my fun with the series just like Super

Honestly, I agree with a lot of these points. I found the whole transformation into SSJ4 cool in concept, but in execution it was...very lack luster and that first fight was VERY underwhelming. I didn't like that Vegeta got it either. Not because of the whole "Cheating" thing, but I think it just honestly lost even more of it's impact that more than one person got it.
I also don't like the way the shadow dragon arc was handled. The idea is cool, misusing the dragon balls and having consequences. But the dragons had NO TIES what so ever to the wishes they were created from. Huge missed opportunity there. And the only reason they came into existence was because of "over-use". Just that alone. What they should've done was have the overuse relate to the specific wishes. Shenron riving so many people on a year to year basis, something that takes a lot of out him each time, as a reason why the shadow dragons were created. And on top of that, it should've been due to all the positive self-less wishes in rapid succession. Elder Kai mentioned that using the dragon balls could upset the universal balance. The dragons do have the ability to grant rather evil and selfish wishes too. If they explained that there should've been some selfish-negative wishes also made to balance it out. The shadow dragons being a sort of self-defense for the universe, a way to balance things out if they go too far in one way, and likewise that would allude to the possibility of there being let's say "Light Dragons" that would be justice warriors should too much selfish/negativity be brought in.
Over all, GT has a lot of good concepts but that it really only did the bare minimum with them.
And yes, super also suffers from that a lot too, such as with Zamasu and Toppo, and...well just the concept of the 11 other universes in general (we didn't even see any people from 3 of them).
But atlas...what can we fans of the franchise do?

@@naisagathefirstdestronmand8559"What they should've done was have the overuse relate to the specific wishes" but that's what they did though, the Dragons literally said which wishes created them. they are tied to an specific wish, and that even reflects on their design, i think you missed out on that detail. which is kinda of an important detail. as for the selfish/negative thing, the Dragon Balls were corrupted because they were being used too much and humanity was depending on them for everything instead of doing stuff on their own. it's a thing about "protecting the world with our own strenght instead of depending on anything" kinda of deal.

I do enjoy Super more than GT, but even then, I can't deny that making it happen before the End of Z limited it. I think it could have improved the End of Z if we just had it after a few arcs and then moved past that into more arcs with Uub as a character they could also develop over the course of the series. GT had Uub, but it didn't really do much with him. Uub was meant to be Goku's successor, but Goku in GT ended up surpassing him and that kinda made Z's ending feel pretty meaningless. Uub is Buu's reincarnation, but other than Uub becoming MajUub, nothing really came from that. Just imagine Uub gaining more power, having conflict to control the evil nature of the original Majin Buu, struggling to find his own identity and through learning to find some kind of balance, he finally lived up to being Goku's successor. I don't think Super will explore Uub, but even if it did, it would have been great to see that a few years ago.

But Super gives them their own episodes and moments. Goku Black is way better than omega Shenron and all the GT villians. And Goku Vs Jiren is more better than anything in GT. The thing about the whole GT vs DBS debate is that neither series needs to exist. They both feel like DLC created simply for the purpose of capitalizing on the DB franchise for a bit longer. With that being said, I think DBS works a lot better as the "sequel series". DBS revitalizes the franchise with a whole new world of powers, potential enemies, and future plotline. GT just feels like its trying to squeeze all the potential plotlines left over from DBZ-era rather than create something new. In that sense, i feel like Super's existence is more justified, which is why I prefer it.

DBGT stands as a brand new story with brand new character design, it had troubles with reduced role of the other Z Fighters, but still a fresh story that still nods respect to the Z storyline and end the story with Goku choosing to leave earth with Shenron in hope that no more villains who seeks for Goku will ever wreak havoc in earth
DBS (along with DBH) are just straight up show full of fanservices, many Z stories were retconned for convenience (Potara, Frieza's potential, Cell saga era Vegeta's arrogance, and Goku's reduced IQ)
    Here's the point
    DBGT
    Pros :
-Brand new adventure that staying true to both the world building of DB and DBZ
-Actual fresh design of Super Saiyan 4 from scratch roots from the origin of Saiyans as "monkey people", hence the monkey-like designs
-Plot heavily revolves around adventuring and Dragon Balls, a homage to DB, as well as staying true to the title
-Akira Toriyama involved only in drawing concept of the main casts and deciding the title, the rest was done by another person
-Characters developed nicely, according how they behave during Buu-EOZ saga
    Cons :
-sluggish storyline, tooks to long to get to the main events
-Goku Time, storyline was focused on Goku, Piccolo, Gohan, and others were having minor role, Vegeta only have his moments in Super Android 17 saga, and peaked at Dark Shenron Saga where he reached Super Saiyan 4, and desperately fights as the last line of defense against Omega Shenron after Goku died (before his Spirit revives for 1 final Spirit Bomb)
    DBS
    Pros :
-They keep Piccolo and Gohan relevant by giving each of them new forms
-Pure fanservice, as they bring back Future Trunks, introduction of Black Goku
    -Expansion to Multiverse story
-Akira Toriyama in charge of the story again
    Cons :
    -Retcons, lot of them
    Example :
    1. Potara fusion used to be called the ultimate fusion, better than fusion dance, no requirements of adjusting energy, and permanent duration in Z, retconned to having duration like Fusion Dance
    2. Retcon to have Frieza so powerful during Z, can only be defeated by Super Saiyan Goku in his final form, to "I never trained in my whole life", yet knows how to fight and beats base Goku with Kaioken, and "only needs to train for a few months" to unlock "Golden" (which retcon to make Frieza a natural born monster like Broly)
-Retcon the past to insert Beerus, where as Beerus acts as a God of Destruction and were meant to keep balance of universe by destroying threats to the universe, yet let destruction of Saiyans happened, because of a fuckin pillow
-Retcon where Goku was wearing Frieza Armor when he was sent to earth, even though in Z, Goku was naked
-Vegeta revert to his Cell saga level of arrogance, and also being given some of his comedy gag moments (bingo, pacifier, etc), guess he lives up to the name though, since he called Goku, a Saiyan, "clown", in Super, he literally became "the Prince of Clowns"
-Goku becomed more dumb, fight loving and also insensitive of consequences, like how in Cell Saga and Buu Saga Goku is better, Goku never wanted Cell to reach his perfect form (Vegeta did), and he allowed Gohan to fight Cell, not because of he wants to get Gohan killed, but as a lesson for him, so that Gohan will knows that he should let go of his soft side and fight seriously when he had to, as well as when Gohan is getting cocky and Cell about to self-destruct, Goku takes the blame by taking Cell away to avoid the earth destruction, killing only him and King Kai, Buu saga Goku also attempts to prevent Buu ressurection (once again Vegeta's ego caused it to happen)
In Super, Goku keeps on prolonging Black Goku until he reaches SSGSSR, where he simply allows F. Trunks timeline destruction
-New color=new forms, seriously, that's effortless

I'm gonna disagree about some of the points against GT. Often I feel the things in GT are often misunderstood (especially in the cringe English Funimation dub. And the Black Star Saga was straight mid ngl, although even that arc had good stuff). GT imo, doesn’t have that bad of an execution. Sure, its not the best, but arcs like the Super 17 and Shadow Dragons have stuff I feel that are very much overlooked and underappreciated. Thats not to say it doesnt have downsides, it does. But, at least for me, it does better in it's individual departments than Super does. Things like its treatment of forms and even the world building in GT I feel are better.
Although that's just me, I respect that you didnt utterly trash GT like most do. I feel most people get so mean and defensive about their point and side because they feel like the other side is so negative, it makes them feel bad about their position on the matter, so they want to defend it with the same violence to get back. If more people can see good in both and understand reasons for the other side, it gets a lot less violent.

GT had some great ideas and heartfelt moments, but it was pretty clear it lacked Toriyama's imagination and influence.

Furthermore there is an argument to be made that it is better she didn't achieve SSJ, as instead of relying on yet another powerup, wits and strategies could be utilized instead, something Super and later parts of Z struggled with.

I probably enjoyed GT more in retrospect than actually watching it at the time. I was overly critical of lil Goku for only one good reason, ontop of being critical for one bad and one subjective reason. It was back to more episodic and I was watching the original Dragon Ball on after school Toonami when I was watching GT on Friday night Toonami I was thinking wow this is mad redundant and at least tween Goku was a comedic force. There was the uncanny I didn't identify the specific changes and I didn't know the obvious reason why it was so jarring the anatomically correct proportions the music direction it had the character design I thought was really tryhard 3cool5school or corny with Vegeta being corny at first and then tryhard it was something I really faulted Bleach for too I kinda appreciate its real merit and also what is weird about it I enjoy the kind of anachronistic goofiness. It was definitely far from the blasphemous continuation of something like Halo 4 but as a kid I didn't know what true IP destruction was. I think what I would really have wanted to see was a Toriyamafication of GT. The tuffles being represented is just fantastic it is even more captivating than when I originally identified it as captivating I feel like Baby as great as he was could have been better had he been more of an anti-villain rather than a traditional villain. The Tuffles have some legitimate gripes they are like the Helghast except they get the level of depth Killzone gave to the ISA while making the Helghast extremely fleshed out. Of course we wouldn't want people saying that the Tuffles are the heros like morons say about the Helghast seeking vengeance rather than justice is not okay they are still the bad guys but they were more sympathetic than GT portrayed. With Goku being characteristically a super empath and extending the chance for redemption it especially didn't feel right how he dispatched Baby with such cold antipathy.
Toriyama being a devout minimalist has visually uninspired transformations what I do like about how he does them now they are far far less redundant laterally they are more defined by the user and within the same user it isn't just doubling up tripling up so on and so forth. What I really fault both GT and Super for I have come to realize started being a thing in Z much earlier than I realized from memory alone. The swings in momentum of battles started getting more and more drastic and more and more punctuated by simple visually inconspicuous special moves, McGugfins, transformations. This criticism turns out is well before GT and Super it is well before Buu Saga it starts being excessive well before the Cell saga it starts being mildly bad after the Ginyu force gets put in the dirt. To call it a Super and/or GT problem is just critical dishonesty even though it is an opinion I had myself not too recently. The intellectual aspect of the conflicts that separates the strictly commercial battle shonen from the cultural milestones was never consistently executed at a high level over an extended period in any artistically important battle shonen. It is sorta a big ask. Even the best creators make narrative hiccups the way the eastern media operates to get the volume of work expected at the rate expected it is kinda incredible the editor didn't get hit with a kamehameha wave

True, most characters in gt get outshine and in the dark. Vegeta, goten, gohan, piccolo, etc. Even Uub who starts important ends up getting one shotted by all the villains. Vegeta gets one important thing when he gets ss4 with the only relevant thing to make gogeta which didn’t do shit. This was all revolving on Goku and Pan. Trunks was eventually taken out. Super does give shit to Goku, Vegeta, Gohan, Piccolo, Roshi, Krillin, The androids, The antagonists are better with the only good in gt being baby and the arc. Super has Blavk arc, TOP, Dbs Broly, Moro, Granolah, and the super hero and now more. Gt is a bit nostalgic but nah even dbs opening 2 is more hype and cool to listen

Better in what? GT is the better show. Super is the better product. Now pick your poison.
Super is way more popular because we're more exposed to it. Movies, games, spin-offs, the manga...
Not to mention it is still ongoing as Toei really wants DB to be back as a brand. It has has flashy fights and lots of transformations back to back, and all this is great for "spreading it's name" with RUclips/TikTok clips, pulling characters from Gatcha Games, waiting for DLCs for Xenoverse/Kakarot/Fighterz. "Super" is a well oiled machine that prints engagement and fans.
And GT? GT can't compete. It was thought to be the finale of the franchise... Not even a manga nor movies!
But most importantly the fights are dull... The Baby arc is DOPE and when SS4 arrives--- The fight SO boring? Immense letdown.
And of course Super is very silly and there's NO plot... But it has better fights. And this is Dragonball. GT got the short stick.

But... I guess this IS the point?
And even if I too agree with what you say in your video, we reach different conclusions due to personal tastes.
(For instance, I think super 17 is better than Jiren, but Jiren is more famous therefore we forgive his flaws more easily. And for the transformations quality should be better than quantity, but then again DLCs and stuff hyped people up a lot.)
But it's really curious how we're describing the thing as a whole in a similar way.

Both are really bad sequels. Although, GT had far superior power up and villain designs, they didn't just recolor the SSJ hair, which was beyond lazy with Super. And the setting was a better choice having the mortal as being stronger than The Gods, more weight and suspense goes onto the main cast. I also preferred the idea of having consequences for using the Dragon Balls, but like all of GT the execution was so bad. Super didn't have any saving graces, it was all just bad rehashings of Z, recoloring SSJ hair for overinflated power ups, recycling Z characters and making them worse. The only thing I thought was better was keeping Goku as an adult, which they've decided to go back on in that new terrible sequel series.

I'm speaking as a new fan and outsider of the fandom here when I say I do NOT get the insane amounts of hate DBS gets.
I haven't finished it yet, but I'm loving it so far. It seems 99% of the hate it gets is for goofy "lore" reasons over anything else. Look, I'm not trying to tell people their opinion is invalid, but with a LOT OF FANDOMS, especially this fandom, they get so hung up on shit that doesn't REALLY matter in the scheme of story, character, and theme. Like, I couldn't give a fuck if the "power scaling" in BDS is "inconsistent" with what came before. Who gives a shit?
Am I the only one here who doesn't take the how power scaling works as some exact science? It's just a storytelling tool to keep tension and excitement going!
Every big fandom is like this - comic book fandom, sci-fi franchise fandom like Star Wars and Trek, anime fandom...people everywhere shitting on the newer thing because it breaks some arbitrary "rule" or whatever. Ya'll need to learn to engage with art better.
Fandoms in general seem more into being knowledgeable about information so they can rattle off factoids like a wiki page instead of actually engaging in storytelling on a level that isn't superficial.
Again, I'm new to the DB franchise. I've just read the manga up through Z (yes I know it wasn't called Z at the time and was just Dragon Ball...ya'll know what I mean) and watched the DBZ anime and and watching DBS at the moment. So no, I don't have literal decades of fandom under my belt here. I'm just having fun enjoying this story, these characters, and the wild world Toriyama created.
IMO DBS does wonders with new and old characters alike, dynamic action, solid humor the DB franchise is known for.

GT feels like fanfiction. Not in the sense that it wasnt written by toriyama, but that it is written by people who love dragon ball, but dont understand what it made such a special story. Look at the black star dragon balls. It is an obvious homage to og db, but it lacks any of the comedy and character dynamics. Goku is the naive but strong moron in the original show. But in gt he is the only intelligent one and the strongest one, making pam and trunks useless. baby and super 17 feel like they are trying to be something similar to Z, but the problem is that all the fights just aren't interesting and everything boils down to super sayian 4. Glad ozuru came back, but it was pretty obvious that great ape wasnt very power and the flaws of it made it useless as the show went on. Black dragons should be a good arc, but the majority of it is just slapstick. It loses the deeper meaning of consequences when they are making painfully unfunny jokes between pam and Goku. The jokes would have worked better if we had more side characters like vegeta or gohan here. Frankly the funniest part of gt were the parts on earth without goku. Vegeta taking bulla shopping was hilarious until the plot started.

DBS doesnt has the best plot but as it continued the production got better and all the different animators had their moments creating some excellent battle scenes.
DBGT had episodes that were very well drawn but most of the battles consist of throwing Ki blast after Ki blast with very uninspired hand to hand combat scenes. Especially the Baby Arc, a lot episodes were well drawn but boy did that fight seem to drag on despite it being very short.
Also consider that DBS spawned out the last 2 DBZ movies (not Broly) after the franchise got effected by the live action movie in the west. Before Battle of Gods, DBZ was a bit dormant outside of the English speaking countries commercially.

I think both have their high highs and low lows. I personally would say I like GT a little more for a few reasons I mentioned lower, but I do think Super despite its awful start, still has plenty of things to like.
I personally have a lot of nostalgia for GT, as I watched it for the first time when I was a kid, so I remember the show rather fondly, even though I know that a decent chunk of it is pretty boring. I loved the SS4 design, the concept of the Dragon Balls turning against the protagonists, it gave off a feeling of consequence for overusing them, and Baby was genuinely one of the better villains in Dragon Ball IMO. Where GT falls flat is that it feels rushed and it switched directions suddenly after the creators have realized that people aren't enjoying GT as much. It started off as a nod to the original DB, but then suddenly it shifted closer towards Z's more serious tone, ending up with the writing being pretty messy overall, and a lot of characters feeling underdeveloped. The Super 17 arc was a great example of that, and I feel like it could've been cool if it was something different than almost a carbon copy of Fusion Reborn. I'm also a huge fan of the ending, it legit made me feel that the story is ending. I feel like GT deserves some kind of remake as a separate timeline - it has a pretty unique take on the DB story, but because it came after Z, either the writers were burnt or they wanted to cash on/satisfy their fans more, they didn't put enough time to touch up the issues GT has.
On the other hand, Super started out rough, and I think the poor animation in the early episodes did create a bad reputation that maybe the series didn't quite deserve, but it taught the team to not cut corners so much. Over time it did get better, and it managed to bring part of its fanbase back, but there's two things that bother me about Super - it feels toned down and I wish Toriyama would leave some parts of the story alone. I'm a person who really doesn't like when a show made primarily for mature audiences is toned down to PG-13, I hate it. I know that apparently it's the anime's fault, and the manga doesn't quite obey that, but punches in the Super anime don't seem to have the same weight when after getting torn to shreds or thrown into a wall at light speed, all you have is a few scratches and occasionally a bruise or two. One of the most memorable parts in the og Dragon Ball was when Piccolo impaled Goku's arms and beat the shit out of him, leaving him bleeding out on the ground. The pure violence shown in that scene made it feel very intimidating and it'd lose so much of its meaning if it was toned down like in Super. Toriyama also did a mistake trying to retcon some parts of DBZ. I'm cool with him changing Broly, as in the Z specials he didn't have much of a personality, so giving him some actual development was a good idea IMO, but him changing Bardock into a nicer more sympathetic guy, when in the Z special he was a ruthless menace and a tragic hero of his race, feels so out of character for him. It also makes the special feel meaningless. I was also a bit eh about reviving Frieza once again, but at least with him, the writers did do something more significant, so I don't dislike it that much. ToP was okay, I liked Ultra Instinct and the fact that some side characters did get some time to shine, but Jiren overall was kind of a meh villain.
Overall I think both of them have some good and bad stuff, and Super I'd say is more entertaining to watch for the pure dopamine, but I like GT's ideas more, so I personally prefer it a tad more, but maybe to appreciate Super a bit more I'd have to read the manga.

GT feels like its trying WAY too hard to be the original DB. Like a poor attempt at capitalizing on the nostalgia of the OGDB series. First turning Goku into a child again for no real reason. Then, another search for the Dragon Balls, except this time on a universial scale. It doesn't feel like the natural progression of where DBZ left off.

    • @gabrielchastain6091

The reason why alot of enemies in gt were weak was because of the stupid overwhelming power that the z fighters had
Most fighters in the universe couldn't come close to Frieza from z so even the exceptions among them couldn't compare to the ridiculous power of sayains who were so damn strong they managed to surpass a being who went around killing the supreme gods of the universe millions of yrs ago for sport "Buu"
In Super alot of the early villains actually fall rather easy if you pay attention
Cabba , botamo , megetta , Cabba, and frost fall when Goku and vegeta dish out their true powers
And just like in gt some of the weaker villains actually used tricks and the elements to make up for it *which I liked* frost cheated with poison and megetta used heat
Hit was the only true threat to keep up in power during the 6 v 7 arc
It wasn't until Goku black got Rose when things really started catching up
You could technically bring up Frieza but he was the main villain of the arc whereas the ones people mention in GT besides Rildo and Lood were kinda underlings and Rildo kept up through his strange metal abilities
And Lood Goku and co couldn't defeat without strategy

GT was because Toei wanted to cash in and Super because Toriyama wanted to make more presumably after the failure that was DB Evolution. Super's coloring also wasn't great and I was glad it was changed for Broly. GT's coloring was much better. Yamamuro's designs left much to be desired vs Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru, who had much better designs. DBGT also copies DBZ in some ways too. DBGT's ending was also great.
